As the title states, I have an issue where all images stored in pictrs are returning a 404 when trying to view them. You can see an example of this here [lemmy.browntown.dev/post/27130](https://lemmy.browntown.dev/post/27130).\n
\n
If i check the pictrs docker volume, I can find the image manually and if I curl `pictrs_ip:8080/image/original/[image.ext]` i can view it in the browser. So I know for a fact that Lemmy is communicating with pictrs to upload the image, but there’s something funky going on with viewing.\n
\n
Hopefully someone here has an idea of where to go with this, I’m at my wits end lol. I’ve tried:\n
\n
- Creating a different pictrs container and using that\n
- Pointing to an external ip for pictrs (i.e. 192.168.x.xxx instead of pictrs:8080)\n
\n
Not sure what to do outside of this?\n
\n
EDIT: Turns out the solution was to disable “cache assets” in nginx proxy manager! Not sure why that helped, but once I did that everything started working as expected.

My major struggle with Lemmy right now is that it is near impossible to post a video/gif/mp4 without having another account on a hosting provider. Reddit handled this very well, and I am concerned that if there isn’t an easy solution on Lemmy, it won’t work for many people as an alternative to Reddit.\n
\n
For example, I made a few video/gif memes. I couldn’t upload the mp4 or gif version to any of the 3 instances I joined. I went to imgur, but it requires a log in, and the link takes you to my profile. I tried giphy and another gif hosting site, but there is time/size limits.\n
\n
Am I missing something? I know storage isn’t free/unlimited on Lemmy, I totally get that the people hosting instnaces have server costs and shouldn’t foot the bill…but something’s got to give.

+url: null
+body: """
After moving here from lemmy.world after learning of their view on federation with Threads, I now face a dilemma which I do not have a clear answer to.\n
\n
**Should I continue contributing to my niche communities on Instances federating with Threads, or build similar communities on other Instances blocking Threads?**\n
\n
I have a feeing this issue is not a one off, but a common one going forward, so it’s better to settle it once and for all. Below is my thought so far. What would you do in my case?\n
\n
I love to post or comment on my favourite niche communities to share my experience with others and grow them. Those communities are small in size and they usually exist in certain instances only.\n
\n
One one hand, having everyone in the same place would be much more beneficial since the community is not split and spread across the fediverse. We would also have better discussions with people from different background and diverse point of views.\n
\n
On the other hand, I do not feel my contribution is in the right place anymore, if let’s say I post on lemmy.world. I don’t want Threads to benefit from my posts/comments and I want people to join Lemmy. Why would Threads users join Lemmy if they could subsribe to our communities?\n
\n
I wish my communities were instance-independent so this barrier can be removed. I can create a similar community here but it is the last thing I would want to do.\n
\n
Having written all these down, I realised this was exactly the same situation how I came to Lemmy from reddit, i.e. communities split across Internet due to issues we have with the platform/instance we are on. I guess discussion on platform/instance-independent communities can be a topic of its own\n
\n
Edit: formatting and clarified my points and updated my question to reflect that

+title: "Dilemma with contributing to niche Communities on Instances federating with Threads"
+url: null

+slug: "MOSFET-as-Radiation-Detector"
+title: "MOSFET as Radiation Detector"
+url: null
+body: "Hello, we are making a thesis where we use MOSFETs as an alternative radiation detector. So to explain it, it works when the mosfet is irradiated with an external radiation source; its voltage threshold increases, which will be used to determine the radiation dose. I'm currently asking for help on how we measure the voltage threshold. BTW, we are using an n-channel MOSFET (model: IRFP250NPbF). Also in the datasheet provided by the manufacturer, it says here VGS(th)/Gate Threshold Voltage Min: 2.0 ––– Max: 4.0 V. There is a condition here with VDS = VGS, ID = 250 A. Does this mean that to measure the VGS, we need to first satisfy the conditions? To measure the voltage threshold, what node will we use to measure the VGS (th)? Is it at the drain to the source terminal or still at the gate to the source terminal? Feel free to share your thoughts, if you have any. I would also like to add that we have already tried to supply a voltage at the gate with respect to the source terminal. We use a 4 V supply voltage, and when we tried to measure the VDS (drain to source voltage), there was a voltage drop, so we've got a 3.5 V. Also, we are using an Arduino to measure its voltage and a multimeter for checking."

I’m curious, does anybody else sit down in the shower. (That’s right not a typo. Sitters, not shitters)\n
\n
This started for me when I was younger, usually when I was nursing a gnarly hangover. The warm water beating down on me was a solace and sitting just made it feel all the more comforting. Though I’m sure it’s not the most hygienic.\n
\n
Over the years, it’s evolved into a ritual, now my preferred way to unwind and relax. So much so, I’m building a concrete bench seat in the shower, with a custom shower head above it, as part of our bathroom renovations. (Similar to the pic)\n
\n
I’m curious if anyone else has a similar routine. Do you find it therapeutic too? Any particular reason why you started?

I’m curious, does anybody else sit down in the shower. (That’s right not a typo. Sitters, not shitters)\n

This started for me when I was younger, usually when I was nursing a gnarly hangover. The warm water beating down on me was a solace and sitting just made it feel all the more comforting. Though I’m sure it’s not the most hygienic.\n

Over the years, it’s evolved into a ritual, now my preferred way to unwind and relax. So much so, I’m building a concrete bench seat in the shower, with a custom shower head above it, as part of our bathroom renovations. (Similar to the pic)\n

I’m curious if anyone else has a similar routine. Do you find it therapeutic too? Any particular reason why you started?
