So, I am making the switch to using Arch full time instead of Windows.\n

I have windows installed on one NVME and installed Arch on another NVME. After installing Arch on the one drive, and rebooting Arch hung at loading initial ramdisk. It never completed, I force shutdown my PC.\n

I have a google pixel, and I know I could install grapheneOS on it. But I’m very, very hesitant, since I depend so much on my phone.\n
\n
This isn’t like distro hopping, where I feel more comfortable hot swapping ssds, or making partitions, or using my desktop while I tinker with my laptop. My phone has a SIM and the service I depend on can’t be emulated off this phone.\n
\n
So what do you recommend I do? Should I move my SIM (my phone service, really) to a new phone while I tinker with this one? Can I just blow up the current OS and wing it? Or maybe theres another option that would allow me to bail back to stock android in case something goes wrong. What do you think?\n
\n
EDIT: how I use my phone: about everything I use is from fdroid, with the occassional app from aurora. I do use my banking app to cash checks, but I don’t use whatsapp, google pay, which I know arent compatible. So as far as app compatibility I dont think it’ll be a problem, Im mostly worried about my phone number not working. I dont know how SIMs work like I should, I just know Ive had the strangest issues in the past with it, so Im hesitant. Thanks for the replies so far.

It’s the Knife of the Undermountain King, if that is relevant. I’m not a druid, so I don’t think it has anything to do with wild shape. I have had Jahiera in my party a few times. I did get disarmed once about 20 hours ago, so it might be related to that. Anyways, I cannot unequip, disarm, throw, or drop that knife. I’ve tried exiting the game and rebooting the PS5 and nothing works. I’m a level 2 pally, level 10 bard, if that matters. Does anyone have any ideas?\n

SOLVED: I jumped off a cliff to my death, and then had a companion resurrect me at Withers and that finally fixed it.

Currently I’ve got a RPi4 without Coral, running Frigate with 2 cams, HA, Paperless, Photoview and Qbittorrent. This works well but maxes out the RPi4. According to Frigate I can use Openvino for object detection. Otherwise, I could add a Coral mini pcie, with a mini pcie to pcie adapter. But that stretches the budget. Almost all countries require official authentication to activate a SIM card. This seems to me as a huge privacy problem, if the country can track sim cards across cell towers and connect them to a person. It seems like a dystopian system, that we litterely can not hide from our governments without turning off our smartphones. It seems incredibly unnecessary to me and just sets up the system to be abused.\n
\n
Or do I understand something wrong?\n

What can we do against this? There are some sim cards that can be bought second hand, but they will not be a long term solution.

Edit: I just noticed, when forcing transcoding by limiting the quality (Bitrate) on the client to lower values, it does not freeze…

I have been using PopOS for a while now (came installed with my S76 Lemp10), but now looking for a new distro (I want to try Linux Mint). I am looking for the easiest way to set up the new distro with most of my current applications installed.\n
\n
My current plan on how to move my applications and settings:\n
\n
- Get dotfiles to external repo (I am using stow)\n
- Use ansible-playbook to set up installation of all the apps I need\n
- Try the ansible setup on a docker container to ensure it works\n
- Then try the ansible setup on a PopOS VM to ensure things work\n
- Modify the ansible setup to use Linux Mint package manager (synaptic I believe)\n
- Then try the ansible setup on a Linux Mint VM\n
- Once everything works, copy the data, install new distro and run ansible script on the new OS\n
\n
Is above the correct way to go about this, or is there anything better or easier available?\n
\n
Edit: Thanks everyone for responses. The general consensus seems to be that that above is overkill (although doable and works) and copying home folder & dotfiles and trying out the distro fresh is easier, and install software as needed. Or, try NixOS :)

For my first run, I focused largely on engaging the roleplay elements and didn’t worry too much about optimization.\n
\n
For my tactician run, I’m attempting to utilize about as much OP shenanigans in my party as possible, and I’m having a great time with it so far. What are your favorite OP builds to actually play?\n
\n
Bonus points if they’re viable all the way through the game without respec-ing.\n
\n
My party:#### Smiter: Paladin 5 / Warlock 7 \n
Progression: P2 -> W5 -> P5 -> W7 \n
Starting stats: 16, 10, 14, 8, 10, 16 \n
Feats: PAM/GWM/Cha+2, Cha+2 \n
Equipment: 2H weapon, best heavy armor, anything that grants advantage \n
Notes: *Smite with warlock slots. Subclasses don’t matter much, but choose Pact of the Blade (extra attack stacks with Paladin’s).* \n
Alternates: P5/W5/F2 for action surge. #### Thrower: Berserker 6 / Thief 3 / Champion 3 \n
Progression: B5 -> Ro3 -> F3 -> B6 \n
Starting stats: 17, 14, 16, 8, 10, 8 \n
Feats: Tavern Brawler (Str+1) \n
Equipment: Sword-and-board, best medium armor, throwing bonuses \n
Notes: *Throw everything and everyone. Keep a few nice magic 2H weapons for bonus throws.* \n
Alternates: B6/R4/F2 or B8/R4 for additional feats. #### Sniper: Assassin 3 / Gloomstalker 5 / Champion 4 \n
Progression: Ro3 -> Ra5 -> F4 \n
Starting stats: 14, 16, 16, 8, 12, 8 \n
Feats: Sharpshooter, Dex+2 \n
Equipment: Dual hand crossbows, best light armor (until later…), anything sneak- or surprise-related Notes: *If surprising a group, drink a haste potion and end the encounter solo.* \n
Alternates: Any combination of A3/G5/F2 or A3/G3/F5 seems viable. #### Bear: Moon Druid 12 \n
Starting stats: 14, 10, 17, 8, 16, 8 \n
Feats: Tavern Brawler (Con+1), Warcaster, Wis+2/Resilient (Con+1) \n
Notes: *Be a bear. Enough said.* \n
Alternates: D7/C5–cast Spirit Guardians before assuming bear form.

For my first run, I focused largely on engaging the roleplay elements and didn’t worry too much about optimization.\n

For my tactician run, I’m attempting to utilize about as much OP shenanigans in my party as possible, and I’m having a great time with it so far. What are your favorite OP builds to actually play?\n
\n
Bonus points if they’re viable all the way through the game without respec-ing.\n

My party:#### Smiter: Paladin 5 / Warlock 7 \n
Progression: P2 -> W5 -> P5 -> W7 \n
Starting stats: 16, 10, 14, 8, 10, 16 \n

Notes: *Smite with warlock slots. Subclasses don’t matter much, but choose Pact of the Blade (extra attack stacks with Paladin’s).* \n
Alternates: P5/W5/F2 for action surge. #### Thrower: Berserker 6 / Thief 3 / Champion 3 \n

Well I’ve joined the “accidentally trashing your system with rm -rf” club! Luckily I didn’t delete my home directory with all the things I care about, but I did delete /boot and /usr, and maybe /var (long story, boils down to me trying to delete non-system directories named those but reflexively adding the slash in front when I should not have). I have backups of those as well, so what are my prospects of recovering from this by just copying them back in using a live USB? Only issue is they’re stored in my server as belonging to the server user (I assume everything in those directories should belong to root and I can just use chown?) But I also don’t know if they retain the same permissions when backed up.\n
\n
Has anyone had any luck recovering a system in this way? I’m hoping not to have to reinstall everything because I had gotten pretty cozy with the current installation.

Recently I stumbled over an article, about how to customize your shell prompt. What really surprised me, is that it lacked one of the most basic tips I learned nearly 20 years back: Always display a timestamp in the prompt, to be able to check how long a process is running or when it ended. (Don’t need it daily, but every so often it saves my butt. ;-)) The other trick is to always have a colorful prompt, to easily discern where output from programs start/stop. In total my PS1 looks like this (with GIT status at the end): [\e[32m]\u[\e[m]@[\e[35m]\h[\e[m] [\e[36m]\A[\e[m] [\e[37m][[\e[m][\e[31m]\w[\e[m][\e[37m]][\e[m]$(__git_ps1 “(%s)”)$\n

Clients like Thunderbird are great because you have everything stored locally so you can easily search offline. They also support encrypting and decrypting emails in PGP. However, they seem to have the same limitation as protonmail where you can’t search through encrypted emails.\n

I know that protonmail can’t just store your key at their server since that would defeat the purpose, so the emails are all ciphertext to them right? Clients like Thunderbird are great because you have everything stored locally so you can easily search offline. They also support encrypting and decrypting emails in PGP. However, they seem to have the same limitation as protonmail where you can’t search through encrypted emails.\n
\n
I know that protonmail can’t just store your key at their server since that would defeat the purpose, so the emails are all ciphertext to them right? But in Thunderbird, you already have the key and decrypt everything all the time. So why can’t you skip the middleman in your local machine and store everything locally in plaintext? It’s not less secure since if your local machine is compromised, your private key is also compromised.\n
\n
Or at the very least give us the option and have a slightly less secure but much more convenient option.

When I try using the normal way in Windows 10, it throws an error. I have some videos I uploaded to a YouTube channel a long time ago, and I’d like to share them, but first I need to remove the metadata.\n

The normal way I do this for images is to right click and select “Remove Properties and Personal Information,” but when I try to do this with an mp4, it doesn’t succeed. I’ve checked the security settings to make sure I have full control over this file, which I do, but it seems impossible to remove this metadata. I’ve tried saving-as using VLC and even tried within different folders, but nothing works.\n
