Good morning all, in today’s episode of “What I learned during work hours”…\n
\n
I was playing around with wxHexEditor and realised that if something catastrophic happened, I would really struggle with any data recovery if I lost the inode tables for any drive.\n
\n
A quick duckle pointed me to e2image, which says in the man:\n
\n
> It is a very good idea to create image files for all file systems on a system and save the partition layout (which can be generated using the fdisk -l command) at regular intervals — at boot time, and/or every week or so.\n
\n
I couldn’t find any prebuilt solutions for this online, so I wrote a systemd service and timer to do this for me. I save the fdisk to a text file, run e2image on a couple drives, and compress it all together in a dated 7z that can get uploaded via rsync or Mega or Dropbox etc.\n
\n
The metadata image from a 500gb drive is 8gb, but compresses down to 40mb. Backup takes a couple minutes.\n
\n
Unfortunately this does *not* work with my raid drives, but they are RAID1 so already resilient.\n
\n
Apparently I was being a derp somehow. …Anyways,\n
\n
My RAID drives are 16TB, e2image of this is 125gb, and 7z’d it comes down to just 63mb.\n
\n
I’ll post the service, timer, and backup script in a comment, let me know if you can spot anywhere for improvements!

I took a 2 month ban from worldnews@lemmy.ml\n
\n
There was no message to say a ban had been applied. I messaged a mod to say I had trouble posting and asked if there was a ban applied. I got no response.\n
\n
I eventually spotted there is a [modlog](https://feddit.uk/modlog/44), and low and behold it mentions I was banned for 2 months for antisemitism. I have to say I found this appalling.\n
\n
When I dug further it turns out that I gave a reply to someone asking why the phrase “from the river to the sea” is considered antisemitic. I replied that is considered as referring to the genocide of the Jews in Israel. I gave a newspaper article link that showed a Labour MP who was removed from the party for using the quote.\n
\n
The comment has been deleted, there was no information given regarding the ban, there is no point of reference to contest the ban. It is crass beyond belief. I am extremely insulted that someone gets to label me antisemitic for something that is very evidently not, and then hide behind an unbreakable barrier.\n
\n
**Edited to remove one sentence**. It stated I would leave all Lemmy instances. Context in comments below.\n
\n
**Second edit**: I finally got a moderator to respond to this.\n
\n
> from @OurToothbrush@lemmy.ml\n
\n
> You reported antizionism as antisemitism. You did an antisemitism.\n
\n
> Your source to support your claim also relies on antisemitism and the conflating of Jews and Israel.\n
\n
I guess this is a community to ignore. Thank you for the responses. I will not respond to anymore here.\n
\n
My response was:\n
\n
> Thank you for your response. Your community your rules. [I made a post to try and get my head around this idiocy last night.](https://feddit.uk/post/4637175)\n
\n
> I will not use your community again.\n
\n
> EDIT: please update the ban log to reflect this. There is a huge difference between your reasoning and antisemitism.

So lately I’ve been seeing shorts on YT about a D&D podcast that looks mildly interesting and I’m running out of good webnovels to listen to with TTS at work. So I thought I would give podcasts a shot…\n
\n
They have instream ads… And it’s the same damn ad on repeat Not the same ad, that was a Conan podcast I listened to in the past, but still it’s like 4 ads in a row. Is there a tool to download these podcasts and strip their ads? I just read that there’s a way to download them via rss so that’s what I’m going to try now. But manual ad removal might get tedious over a hundred episodes.\n
\n
I can’t imagine with all the nerd centric podcasts that we wouldn’t have automated a way to extract ads by this point.\n
\n
Edit: At this point, trying a number of things. yt-dlp seems to be the best way to do it. If the podcast is available on YouTube someone most likely has already submitted SponsorBlock segments for it. You can then use yt-dlp to download the episode or the whole playlist using this command:\n
\n
```\n
\n
<span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">yt-dlp --sponsorblock-remove all --ignore-errors --format bestaudio --extract-audio --audio-format mp3 --audio-quality 192K --output "%(title)s.%(ext)s" --yes-playlist 'PLAYLIST URL'\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span>\n
```\n
\n
You can even run it directly in Termux on your Android phone and skip sponsors on the go.

\n
```\n
\n
<span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">yt-dlp --sponsorblock-remove all --ignore-errors --format bestaudio --extract-audio --audio-format mp3 --audio-quality 192K --output "%(title)s.%(ext)s" --yes-playlist 'PLAYLIST URL'\n
