I use ProtonVPN for everything, and I’ve started noticing more and more sites simply blocking me if I try to connect to them through ProtonVPN. As much as it sucks, I’ve more or less become acclimated to having to deal with an increased number of captchas while using a VPN; but I’m pretty angry about being blocked outright. There are at least two broad blocking tactics. First, some sites will say that my network traffic looks suspicious and/or that they simply block traffic from certain IP addresses. But second, and far more maddeningly, some sites tell me that my username and password combo are *incorrect* when I’m using a VPN. But I know this to be a blatant lie because (1) I use a password manager that auto-fills login forms with credentials that match the domain name, and (2) such sites accept my credentials when I visit them without the VPN connection.\n
\n
What the hell can we do about this shit? Do I have to run my own VPN to avoid sharing an IP address with other people and thus getting blocked? I *really* don’t want to do that because I have neither the time nor expertise, and I like that connecting through a VPN provider makes my IP address much less significant. I’m aware that this is connected to the broader conversation about WEI and other methods for determining whether requests are legitimate or not, and I’m sure that businesses of all sizes are reeling from massive increases in bot and AI activity. But solutions that end up punishing legitimate users are not good or valid solutions.

+url: null
+body: """

Basically I’m really missing the edit post option it was available on my previous client (voyager) so I think it’s possible.\n
\n
Right now I make posts and realise in my probably drunken state I’ve made a spelling mistake and my only option is to delete the post at the point the app kicks me out of the thread and the post seems to be blocked from ever finding it again.\n
\n
The edit button would let me fix my idiotic errors and not get kicked from the post I was actually trying to reply to.\n

I’ve been wanting to move away from Dropbox for a long while, but I haven’t been able to find a suitable replacement. Dropbox has always been super convenient and has just worked for me.\n
\n
I’ve tried Tresoit but the low link sharing limits (2gb) and 10gb limit for files is somewhat of a deal breaker for me. I’ve been interested in Proton Drive for a while, but until their mac app is ready it’s unusable for me.\n
\n
I’ve also tried self-hosting a nextcloud instance (multiple times) but I’ve always just had too many issues with it. It’s been inconsistent in actually backing up files from my mac, I’ve had so many file conflicts, etc. I have a truenas scale server, so if there are other self-hosted methods I should try let me know.\n

Currently, I’m looking at filen and sync.com, but I’ve heard both have their issues so I’m curious to hear everyones thoughts on them as well.\n

So I’ve recently taken an interest in these three distros:\n
\n
- [NixOS](NixOS)\n
- [blendOS](https://blendos.co/)\n
- [Vanilla OS](https://vanillaos.org/)\n
\n
All of these offer something very interesting: \n
Access to (basically) all Linux-capable software, no matter from what repo.\n
\n
Both *NixOS* and *blendOS* are based on config files, from which your system is basically derived from, and Vanilla OS uses a package manager `apx` to install from any given repo, regardless of distribution.\n
\n
While I’ve looked into *Fedora Silverblue,* that distro is limited to only install Flatpaks (edit: no, not really), which is fine for “apps”, but seems to be more of a problem with managing system- and CLI tools.\n
\n
I haven’t distro hopped yet, as I’m still on [Manjaro GNOME](https://manjaro.org/) on my devices.\n
\n
---\n
\n
What are your thoughts on the three distros mentioned above? \n
Which ones are the most interesting, and for what reasons?\n
\n
Personally, I’m mostly interested in NixOS & blendOS, as I believe they may have more advantages compared to Arch;\n

It’s split pea or ham and potato for me.\n
\n
In my mind, soup is just a technique that’s really about the stock. This is just me suggesting that you all should adopt traditional French cooking technique.\n
\n
For me, it’s saving old chicken scraps and certain veggies and then cooking them until they are mush in water. Grocery store rotisserie chicken skin, bones, and juice; carrots, onions, celery, garlic. Anything getting past it’s prime. No brassicas though. I’ll throw a t bone in there, but while really good beef broth is amazing, good beef bones cost as much as real beef.\n
\n
Clam juice or shrimp/crab/lobster shells sauteed in butter with water (or the aforementioned stock…) Is also awesome.\n
\n
Once you’ve got that, just put anything in it. That’s good soup.\n
\n
Make sure that you put the correct amount of salt in it. If there’s no salt, stock tastes terrible.

In my mind, soup is just a technique that’s really about the stock. This is just me suggesting that you all should adopt traditional French cooking technique.\n

Clam juice or shrimp/crab/lobster shells sauteed in butter with water (or the aforementioned stock…) Is also awesome.\n

Once you’ve got that, just put anything in it. That’s good soup.\n

Make sure that you put the correct amount of salt in it. If there’s no salt, stock tastes terrible.

I guess there is no need to introduce what a Degoogled phone is (or a custom ROM without google services, like GrapheneOS is) and the Aurora Store is basically said in a crude way the Google Playstore but without the need to log in to your Google account, quite useful in my opinion.\n
\n
At first, what really concerns me is to run the risk of violating Google’s TOS by logging in with my Google account on the Aurora Store to access my purchased apps, but at the same time I think, since Android is Google’s operating system, can’t they also retaliate against people using a modified version of their OS? And I know that sounds especially stupid when your phone is your phone and not Google’s, but we all know how companies like Google work.\n

I don’t use Google services on my device, but I do use it as a secondary email that I don’t want to lose, hence the question, I know I can create another email but I don’t want to have so many email accounts.
