+title: "Best Linux Distro for a tablet?"
+url: null
+body: "Been wanting to put Linux on my Surface Pro 7, but when i tried it with Ubuntu, it didn’t work as well as I’d like. I used the Surface driver kernel, but Ubuntu wasn’t really good with touch. It couldn’t give a pop up keyboard (only showed up when logging into my account, but never beyond that). Sometimes it wouldn’t register touch at all. That and other little things that made it not ideal for touch screens. So i was wondering, are there any good distros that would work well in tablet only mode on my Surface Pro?"

I’ve seen it for Venezuela and Syria, but i’m sure i could find this for quite a lot of other countries. \n
We’re usually saying that it would legitimize these elections, and are asking instead that the opponents boycott them. We can continue to criticize the biases surrounding the votes instead of the votes themselves if that’s the problem. \n
Some leaders may believe that the processus of elections is biased because unjust external pressures are putting a strain on the country and strengthening the opposition ; but, despite that, some of them are still asking for international observers, which could be an occasion to seize, instead of refusing to send them yet accusing them of cheating. \n
So i wonder if i’m missing something by thinking that we don’t want to legitimate the whole process by counting the votes.\n
\n
For them it seems like it would be the same if they’re already asking, but for us it could open our societies to accusations of double standards since it could be argued that our own elections aren’t perfect. \n
In the end sanctions would stay in place so it wouldn’t be useful in any way, and doesn’t matter, i should probably delete this post but i’m leaving it in the off-chance that some find an interest in it.\n
\n
If you had the initial thought that international observers won’t prevent cheating : they would count in double the votes, with the venezuelans of their area, and have everything under their eyes from the beginning of the vote to the end of the official count, so i don’t see how cheating would be possible. \n
For now, our version is that they’re miscounting the votes, yet we’re refusing to send such observers.

+title: "Would anyone here know why we refuse to send international observers to some countries ?"
+url: null
+body: """

Not my own story, but my original retelling of a public one.\n
\n
Back in the summer of 2017, Devon (in the UK) was suffering from a heat wave. The boys suffered the unbearable heat in trousers. Girls were luckier - skirts were part of the school uniform.\n
\n
One boy, Ryan, asked his teacher for an exception due to the heat, but was told that all clothes worn must be a part of the approved school uniform, without exception. Another boy who asked was given a sarcastic reply: "Well, you can wear a skirt if you like."\n
\n
*Cue malicious compliance.*\n
\n
The next day, Ryan came to school in his uniform. Every item he wore was on the approved list - including his official school skirt.\n
\n
Pretty soon, nearly all the lads were wearing skirts.\n
\n
A few days later, after the worst of the heat wave was over, the headteacher announced that shorts would be allowed as part of the official school uniform starting the next school year.\n
\n
**TL;DR: School won't allow boys to wear shorts in extreme summer heat because it's not on the approved uniform list but sarcastically points out that they can wear skirts. Boys wear said skirts. School gives in and adds shorts to the list.**\n

Our lawyer decided to pick up the fight to generate free publicity for our fledgling company. For discovery, the maker of the device requested “a copy of any and all potentially infringing source code”. They weren’t specific and they didn’t specify the medium.\n

So we printed the entire Linux kernel source code including my driver in 5-pt font and sent them the boxes of printouts. Legally they had been served, so there was nothing they could do about it.

In 2000, I wrote a Linux device driver that “decrypted” the output of a certain device, and my company, which hosted open-source projects, agreed to host it.\n
\n
The “encryption” was only a XOR, but that was enough for the maker of said device to sue my company under 17 U.S.C. § 1201 for hundreds of millions in damages.\n
\n
The story got a lot of press back then because it highlighted how stupid the then-new DMCA was, and also because there was a David open-source enthusiasts vs. Goliath heartless corporation flavor to it.\n
\n
Our lawyer decided to pick up the fight to generate free publicity for our fledgling company. For discovery, the maker of the device requested “a copy of any and all potentially infringing source code”. They weren’t specific and they didn’t specify the medium.\n
\n
So we printed the entire Linux kernel source code including my driver in 5-pt font and sent them the boxes of printouts. Legally they had been served, so there was nothing they could do about it.

Hi! I’m seeking some advice and sanity check on hopping from Ubuntu to Fedora on my personal PC. I’ve been using Ubuntu LTS for almost two years now, switched from Windows and never looked back. But I cannot say I know Linux well. I use my PC for browsing, some gaming with Steam (I have AMD GPU), occasional video editing, tinkering with some self-hosted stuff that is on separate hardware.\n
\n
I don’t like the way Ubuntu is moving with snaps. And LTS version falls behind too much. So I decided to move to Fedora.\n
\n
My plan is simple:\n
\n
1. I will install Fedora on a fresh nvme drive. I want disk encryption, so I’m going to have LUKS over btrfs for /home, and the root will remain unencrypted.\n
2. I will copy all files from old /home to new /home, with the exception of dot-files.\n
3. I plan to make use of flatpaks, so I don’t think configuration for my apps is easily transferable. I’ll have to install and configure apps from scratch, unless I’ll have to use an RPM package.\n
\n
Does all of this make sense? Is there a way to simplify app re-configuration in my case?\n
\n
And as I never used Fedora extensively (booting from live image doesn’t count), are there any caveats I should be aware of?

+title: "Preparing to move from Ubuntu to Fedora"
+url: null
+body: """
