Hello! I (tried, at least) converted an old laptop to a Debian home server, and I was trying to set up duckdns.org and to enable port forwarding on my router. internet connection was working, I installed packages, docker, immich, etc, and then suddenly (I don’t know exactly when) it refuses to connect to the internet. It does connect to local addresses (I can ssh into it) but `ping google.com` and any other internet-involving command fail. I had set up a rule on the router to forward port 80 to the device’s port 80, but I then removed the rule and it still does not connect to the internet. I rebooted the router but nothing changed. Any idea what could be? the router is a Vodafone router.\n

\n
I changed the hostname to debianserver but on the router it is still written debian. Also, it’s the only device with unknown ipv6\n
\n
thanks in advance!\n
\n
EDIT: I rebooted again the server, and now ipv6 is not unknown anymore, and the hostname is correct. however, it still does not connect to the internet\n
\n

\n
EDIT 2:\n
\n
only one device (debianserver) has this problem, other devices work as before\n
\n
EDIT 3:\n
\n
I don’t know if it’s useful or not, but if I boot a live debian USB in the server internet works\n
\n
SOLUTION: aaaaand no it does not work, after restarting docker it seems to work because all the brodges are yet to be created and it takes some time, after like 30 seconds it does not work as before :(\n
\n
- edit the file `/lib/systemd/system/docker.service`\n
- append the flag `–bip=192.168.3.1/24` to `ExecStart=…`\n
- `systemctl daemon-reload`\n
- `systemctl restart docker`\n
\n
docker was the fucker that messed everything up and made me lose a few hours!\n
\n
EDIT 4:\n
\n
it seems that `ip route flush 0/0` restores the internet connectivity until reboot… I don’t know what does this means but can be a temporary workaround I guess? I really have no idea how to solve this\n
\n
FINAL EDIT: I gave up. I removed debian and installed fedora, and now it all works like a charm

Does anyone know what the risks are of exposing the DNS port to the internet? How likely am I to get compromised? Is this a really bad idea?

I have a pair of Bluetooth headphones, which I have been using since 2022. Today, I was sitting on the bus when some random person connected to them and started playing *Free Bird*.\n
\n
It was a bit funny, but I don’t want this to become a regular thing. Is there a way of locking the headphones to certain Bluetooth addresses? Or a way of making it not show up automatically on phones (similar to a hidden WiFi network)?\n
\n
The headphones in question are the JBL Tune 510, which have a USB-C port. However, I don’t know if this can be used to flash firmware.\n
\n
If there’s already a comment telling me to “just use wired” or something, please don’t tell me again. It’s the best solution, but my phone doesn’t have a headphone jack (fuck you, Apple).\n
\n
Thanks!

\n
Thanks!

Hello, I have issue with the most recent version of Ubergeek77 Lemmy instance deploy.\n
\n
After deployment when I open the website URL, I get the Lemmy Error screen. Https is working but I just get Error message, saying restart the server or contact Lemmy support. The server is Debian 11, and the Lemmy edition is 0.19.2.\n
\n
Do you know how can I resolve that issue?

I finally got around watching “The Man in the High Castle” and for Season 01 and 02, sources I got had hardcoded subtitles in the video file for the Japanese and German spoken parts.\n

+body: """
Hi, I’m just getting started with Docker, so apologies in advance if this seems silly.\n
\n
I used to self-host multiple services (RSS reader, invoicing software, personal wiki) directly on a VPS using nginx and mariadb. I messed it up recently and am starting again, but this time I took the docker route.\n
\n
So I’ve set up the invoicing software ([InvoiceNinja](https://hub.docker.com/r/invoiceninja/invoiceninja/)), and everything is working as I want.\n
\n
Now that I want to add the other services (ttrss and dokuwiki), should I set up new containers? It feels wasteful.\n
\n
Instead, if I add additional configs to the existing servers that the InvoiceNinja docker-compose generated (nginx and mysql), I’m worried that an update to Invoiceninja would have a chance of messing up the other setups as well.\n
\n
It shouldn’t, from my understanding of how docker containers work, but I’m not 100% sure. What would be the best way to proceed?

*TLDR: VPN-newbie wants to learn how to set up and use VPN.*\n
\n
**What I have:**\n
\n
Currently, many of my selfhosted services are publicly available via my domain name. I am aware that it is safer to keep things closed, and use VPN to access – but I don’t know how that works.\n
\n
- domain name mapped via Cloudflare > static WAN IP > ISP modem > Ubiquity USG3 gateway > Linux server and Raspberry Pi.\n
- 80,443 fowarded to Nginx Proxy Manager; everything else closed.\n
- Linux server running Docker and several containers: NPM, Portainer, Paperless, Gitea, Mattermost, Immich, etc.\n
- Raspberry Pi running Pi-hole as DNS server for LAN clients.\n
- Synology NAS as network storage.\n
\n
**What I want:**\n
\n
- access services from WAN via Android phone.\n
- access services from WAN via laptop.\n
- maybe still keep some things public?\n
- noob-friendly solution: needs to be easy to “grok” and easy to maintain when services change.

Working on a joystick. Seems like any protocol I use to read from peripherals is going to be bottlenecked by having just one input. My microcontroller might have multiple ADCs, but there’s just one processor stepping through them. Same for spi, or i2c, or uart. There’s really only ever one sensor reporting back its data at a time.\n
\n
I know this might not matter for measurement resolution. Especially if you’re polling at like 115k serial or something, but…\n
\n
That’s 8 bits per axis, and three axis. Now that’s at least 34 bits. To sample each axis we’re down to only 4.5k samples per second. Plus whatever other cycles the controller has to handle… even if I spent half that time doing microcontrolle cycles at like 2k we’re probably still well with the best star craft apms or whatever. I’d still like to find some way to really over engineer this thing.\n
\n
I read a little about tdm, but that’s out of my league and I don’t know if you could even have 3 simultaneously signals that way\n
\n
I’m thinking a microcontroller for each axis, and a usb port for each of them. So it appears like 3 different controllers to the computer. The user would just have to map the axis from the 3 controllers into 1 in their game software. I assume the steam remapping could do this.\n
\n
Is it just going to get smashed back into one thread in the computer’s usb hub anyway?\n
\n
Any other suggestions?
