I was just reading about how a current Israeli war minister’s son died in combat and it made me wonder that if Israeli’s politicians who make these decisions know their family will be affected by it personally and directly, does that lend towards the suggestion that it is more likely they are making genuinely ethically and morally correct decisions to engage in war stuff given their personal skin i the game?\n
\n
It would seem totally different from American politicians like Cheney who create bullshit geopolitical conflicts knowing full well their progeny will never be touched by it…\n

Edit: I’m assuming they actually care/give a shit about their offspring and family, even if only just for appearences

Hello scurvy dogs\n
\n
Im looking for some advice on how I should go about continuing to watch youtube while blocking / bypassing ads on my LG TV.\n
\n
I recently ended my premium subscription because of price hikes and such but webOS on LG TVs is very restrictive with its apps.\n
\n
Ive started to use LibreTube on my devices which is awsome but ive only got a couple of options that might work on the telly:\n
\n
1- I host a local Jellyfin server for all our other content needs so maybe i can integrate youtube into this somehow.\n
\n
2- Ive got a spare Pi 3b laying around that I could use as something and just HDMI to the TV which im fine with.\n
\n
Currently I think that maybe running android on the Pi and then using LibreTube on that is my best option.\n
\n
So my question is, what do you guys use / what are your setups to watch youtube ad free on ya TV?

I’ve been daily driving Linux for 17 months now (currently on Linux Mint). I have got very comfortable with basic commands and many just works distros (such as Linux Mint, or Pop!_OS) with apt as the package manager. I’ve tried Debian as a distro to try to challenge myself, but have always ran into issues. On my PC, I could never get wifi to work, which made it difficult to install properly. I’ve used it on my daily driver laptop, but ran into some issues. I thought a more advanced distro, that is still stable, would be good overall. However, not getting new software for a long time sounds quite annoying.\n

I’m wanting to challenge myself to get much better with Linux, partitioning, CLI, CLI tools, understanding the components of my system, trying tiling window managers, etc. I’ve been considering installing Arch the traditional way, on my X220, as a way to force myself to improve. Is this a good way to learn more about Linux and a Linux system in general? I always hear good things about the Arch Wiki. Is there any other tips someone can give me, to sharpen my Linux skills? I was even considering trying out Gentoo on my X220, but the compiling times sound painful. I wouldn’t daily drive Gentoo or Arch, just yet, but I would try to use them as much as possible for general use.

\n

On average if I make a post on Mastodon whether I get a comment, and a continued conversation is either hit or miss.\n

On Lemy if I make a post it’s almost insane the probalility of actual comments, conversation and discusion with many users that can occur in a single post compared to Mastodon.\n
\n
Is this because of the communities on Lemy making things more seamless and simple to find content I might want to consume and discuss as a user? Because say I join a Mastodon server, nothings really organized by topics or anything. Sure there are hashtags but, the user would have to know to search a specific hashtag and there’s the chance of even missing somes post that may be related even if the topic is similar to a hashtag searched for.\n
\n
Who knows, what are Lemy users thoughts on this?\n
\n
I know one thing, if you can make a good platform, then you can get great conversations in anything that people are interested in. It seems to me Lemy is the best at this for most users. While on Mastodon, while i’m not saying I hadn’t had people comment on my posts, it seems less likely then Lemmy. I don’t think I made a single post where no one has commented atleast something on Lemy.

So many questions…\n

First of all: will i find italian contents? Or its all US/English stuff?\n

I got an account on NZBFind, bit thats only an indexer right? I need also to find an access provider to usenet? If so, which access provider do you recomend? I want somewhere i can test for a few weeks or a month or so before committing, so no credit card upfront.\n

Update: trough techradar got an offer on newshosting for 5.99/mo with 3 monts free. Paid with PayPal then cancelled the recurrent immediately (so paid 0 so far). But at the moment not yet sure i made it working in my *Arr setup properly.

So, i want to give a try to usenet world.\n

I have the *Arr setup with torrents now, and works great, but why not experiment a bit further?\n

So many questions…\n
\n
First of all: will i find italian contents? Or its all US/English stuff?\n
\n
I got an account on NZBFind, bit thats only an indexer right? I need also to find an access provider to usenet? If so, which access provider do you recomend? I want somewhere i can test for a few weeks or a month or so before committing, so no credit card upfront.\n
\n
Update: trough techradar got an offer on newshosting for 5.99/mo with 3 monts free. Paid with PayPal then cancelled the recurrent immediately (so paid 0 so far). But at the moment not yet sure i made it working in my *Arr setup properly.

Hi guys! I think I’m over Joplin. Don’t get me wrong, it’s simple, it works, but… why is it Postgres db…. I have the server on a small box with like 250 GB of space and backing it up with kopia to Backblaze with free 10 GB, so I’m a bit storage cautious.\n
\n
With each snapshot, it seems like a good chunk of the database changes, even when I don’t use Joplin that day. That results in kopia backing up those changed files, and backups keep growing. Right now the Joplin database is like 200Mb, BUT when I export the notes from the app… all of them weigh 2Mb… including images. Yes there is versioning of notes, but they shouldn’t be that big after one-two months lol.\n
\n
I know I know, I’m being a bit weird about it, but I’m getting daily notifications about backups and I see how they grow each day.\n
\n
Anyway, do you have any alternatives that have an app on iOS and on Linux? Or should I just use Apple Notes in the browser? Thanks\n
\n
EDIT: The answer was easier than I thought. Just don’t back it up, it’s synced which means each device has a copy of it anyway so there is not really need for it, thanks @vvv@programming.dev !
