It is a [known issue](https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=61422), open for 10 years, and we were wondering if there is a fundamental reason or obstacle for this feature.

I would like to do it again, I already like having my games dependancy free (praise mr goldmountain), and I am saving up some money to spend on hoarding possibilities. I would like to know what would have the longest storage life, would burning games into bluray discs be too unhinged or is something I am missing?\n

Long story short, I learned there is an XMMS release of a plugin I use in Winamp for music playback (mp3PRO). Sadly, I recoded most of my music to mp3PRO back in the day, and now I’m stuck using Winamp, even on Linux. I like the player, wouldn’t change it, but I wanted to switch to something native, like Audacious or Qmms. But, this codec is abandonware and it only has a plugin released for XMMS back in 2005 (closed source, of course).\n
\n
Is there any way I can make this plugin work in any modern player? It’s 32-bit only, but that’s not a problem, I can just use the 32-bit versions of Audacious or Qmms (Void still has 32-bit builds of them in repo)… maybe like a wrapper or something… I would debug and do whatever it needs, I just need some pointers where to start looking and what to do exactly if I’m gonna have a shot at making this work.\n
\n
I tried loading the plugin in Audacious, it throws and error while loading, something xmms_config related (can’t remember, I’m currently not at the PC I was testing this on), Qmms just says that it can’t load the plugin. I presume GTK+ would be required and I’d bundle whatever libraries it needs with the plugin, just don’t know where to start really… ldd would be a good start I guess, but I didn’t run that 😂.

I recently switched my entertainment laptop to Linux after having my work devices on it for a few years.\n

The laptop has a Gforce 1050 Max-Q in it. I’m trying to run games from Steam that officially don’t support Linux.\n
\n
If I set the PRIME profile in the Nvidia control panel to “Nvidia only”, everything works as expected.\n
\n
But if I set the profile to “On demand”, the whole system freezes a few seconds after I open a game.\n
\n
I read some vague comment on Reddit saying it might have something to do with me using KDE.\n
\n
If I run it on the Intel GPU, it works no matter what profile is set (but super slow).\n

The system is freshly installed using the proprietary Nvidia driver version 535.\n

Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong?

Basically I am looking for a messaging platform like signal or? but with anonymous signup, perfect forward secrecy, capable of video chat, sending photos the usual uses in today’s life. But with a panic button. So that any party member could use said button to wipe all other members devices of any data instantly inside the messaging app. So if one member gets compromised, or lost their device, stolen device ect, any other member could wipe all chats, call log, and any other data strictly inside the messaging client instantly for everyone involved. Disolving the group like it never existed rendering the data unrecoverable. Amazons Wickr used to have most of these features but it is being discontinued December 2023 and who trusts amazon with their data. Does something like this exist? Sorry if I’m not explaining it well I’ll do my best to clarify and update this post. I am not trying to delete the whole device. Just the data inside the messaging app. If that does not exist. What about a separate app that could delete the entire messaging platform from the device when triggered. Assume all necessary requirements are met and this is for daily use. Between a group of trusted parties.\n

So i have my main system, i have been running NixOS on for over a year. It has been a pleasure to daily drive. And ive recently been playing with gentoo and funtoo. So i was wondring what other software users run, and what hardware they run it on. Ive also been looking into replacing my lenovo W540 because the Nvidia K110m is royal pain and kills my battery life. Ive been looking at lenovos t480, t480s t440p. And cant decide, i really would like at least 4 cores, good linux support and long battery life aswell as repairablility. The laptop is going to mostly be a web browsing machine aswell as trying out gentoo and new distros. If you have any suggestions on a laptop id very be much grateful.\n

I tend to go for a NY strip 9/10 times when I’m buying steaks, unless there’s some good deal on something else. Or I’ll go to Costco and get a big roast and cut steaks out of it. I’m not super picky these days because I always sous vide and torch my steaks and they come out so nice no matter what the cut. Salt and pepper and herbs before the sous vide usually, but every now and then I’ll try out a marinade. Sometimes I’ll finish with some butter, but usually it’s fine without a finish.\n
\n
But I do find that a NY strip just looks the best to me and has a good ratio of fat to meat for my tastes. Eating out, I may go for a ribeye or something more “premium” but I rarely get steak when I eat out. So what’s your favorite cut and how do you cook it?

Are there any links, videos, post or anything that is beginner friendly of ricing Linux?\n

+url: null
+body: """
Hello everyone,\n
\n
There are a few basic things in my current setup that I’m not very comfortable with. Since we’re on blackfriday -> cybermonday I think it would be a nice season to make some changes [cloud - e-mail - calendar - cloud - DNS] Here’s the deal:\n
\n
### E-mail / Calendar Strategy\n
\n
- Using tuta for more than 2 years but I still rely on my gmail address for many things; issues with Tuta:\n
- troublesome to export/make backups (worse since I have many folders, would be folder by folder)\n
- not a fan of not having an e-mail client on my desktop (not issue in mobile phone), also don’t love the calendar\n
\n
What would be ideal:\n
\n
- a nice mail provider, possibility of easy backups, possibility of using e-mail client (this one is not a hard requirement)\n
- Calendar, end-to-end encrypted: a hard requirement since I store some sensitive data there. Should be easy to see on mobile (e.g.: dedicated app); for desktop it does not matter much to me I guess the calendar requirement excludes nextcloud and most providers, as well as calDav stuff and similar\n
- I wouldn’t mind if it would be 2 products working side by side if no alternatives are available (calendar and e-mail, but not ideal)\n
\n
### Backups and Cloud Storage (for redundancy)\n
\n
- I have 1 cold backup at home, another at someone else’s home (both encrypted) but to be safe I’d like to also have a trustworthy cloud Cloud: -end-to-end encrypted or -> next bullet\n
- compatibility with cryptomator is a big plus (though I want to avoid Apple/Google/MS/Dropbox)\n
- possibility of mounting the cloud storage as drive on my computer (not hard requirement this one)\n
- could be 2 products side by side (not ideal though): a storage solution for entire backup (wasabis and stuff) and a cloud solution (day to day usage)\n
\n
### DNS for filtering\n
\n
I’d like a solution to have all traffic filtered (malware, ads) system wide on my laptop/desktop I have used adguard in the past; open to all other possibilities. I also have mullvadVPN; wouldn’t using a different DNS defeat the purpose of the VPN? Or when VPN is on, the DNS is always the one of the VPN? Possibilities:\n
\n
- controlD (i have seen people vouching for it)\n
- NextDNS (system settings)\n
- MullvadDNS (system settings)\n
- adguard desktop app\n
\n
### Malware / Virus / etc\n
\n
I have a linux desktop and macOS laptop. My doubts are regarding macOS. I’ve seen so many new antivirus ads that it almost makes me think that I should have one. I have malwarebytes installed for occasional runs and CleanMyMacX (I have doubts regarding its security claims - I use more for system management)\n
\n
- Should I opt for an antivirus program? If so, which would be advised intego is showing up all the time weirdly)\n
\n
This time of the year is when I can gear up, since financially I haven’t been at the top.\n
\n
For those that will answer, thank you so much in advance!!!

+title: "Need To Change Privacy Strategy - Recommendations and BlackFriday"
+url: null

I am currently using Windows on an older HP Laptop, which I intend to replace with a Framework 16 by next summer, but my Desktop PC at home has been running EndeavourOS, my first ever Linux distro, since last summer, so I have some Arch-based experience.\n
\n
As a learning experience I’d like to install raw Arch, but I’m wondering if it makes sense as a primary OS on something that *should* be a stable system, since I intend to use the laptop for university. I am planning on using btrfs and timeshift, so it shouldn’t break too horribly, even if something goes wrong (and I don’t wanna jinx it, but so far my EndeavourOS pc has been entirely fine too, so I didn’t even run into such an issue yet), but depending on who you ask Arch is either the most stable distro they’ve ever used or bricked their pc ten seconds into the install process.\n
\n
So now I’m curious on if you all think this is a stupid idea or if it should be fine. Should I try installing Arch and then for actual use replace it with another distro like Debian LTS, NixOS or something like Mint on a machine which fulfills a more critical role than my PC at home, or should I be alright rolling with Arch on my uni laptop?\n
\n
As a side note, what’s your take on using Arch vs EndeavourOS? It’s roughly the same fundamentally, so is there any point in using Arch apart from the learning experience and being able to say “I use arch btw”? My reasoning for actually wanting to use it and not just wanting to set it up for the learning experience and then switching off to EOS or something entirely different is “I think it’s neat”, which is hardly a good reason long-term.

+title: "Arch on semi-critical pc? (Also EndeavourOS vs raw Arch?)"
+url: null
+body: """
