Hi folks,\n
\n
I recently came across a comment where someone wished there was a AskCulinary community here on Lemmy.\n
\n
Surprised there wasn’t one already and knowing that I’m a professional cook who never gets bored of talking about the business, cooking and just food in general, I obliged and made one.\n
\n
[You can find it here](/c/askculinary@lemmy.world)\n
\n
Yes, I know it doesn’t have much yet, but I’m working on it. In the mean time, please feel free to post all your cooking and food related questions there. I’m definitely not all knowing, but until the community grows somewhat I’ll make sure to answer all posted questions to the best of my abilities.\n
\n
Hope to see you there and happy cooking!!\n

OK, this is dumb, but it’s gone through my head a couple times. I’ve seen a few science fiction movies and [shows](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0l2mEmpBSA) where the people in the spaceship use a [gravity assist](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gravity_assist) and lean into the turns like they’re driving NASCAR or riding a roller coaster.\n
\n
I think they wouldn’t feel the acceleration (vector change) because gravity is doing the acceleration on every molecule and there would be nothing to lean against. I’m often wrong though. Someone smarter than I am have some insight?\n
\n
EDIT: For what it’s worth, I guess I shouldn’t have used the Expanse clip as it upset some people. I just used it for an example of what I was asking. The question is this: Under little or no thrusters, would you feel a gravity assist? Even a radical one that changes your direction 90 degrees and greatly increases your velocity?

Good afternoon all, I have half-assed my backups for 15 years, and it is not sustainable, and I need your help! I have the following setup: 1x Raspberry Pi 4 with a WD USB3 MyBook 4TB as a NAS target using OpenMediaVault. This works well enough, but is not in my mind a long term viable solution. 1x Apple Airport TimeCapsule A1355 2TB\n
\n
I also have a smattering of other drives collected from over the years in MyBooks, all USB 2.0 drives, a 2TB mirror edition (2x 1TB drives in RAID 0 or RAID1), 1TB, and 500GB. This does not include the random 750 GBs, 500 GB and old 250 GB drives that I’ve taken out of my Macs and PCs over the years as I’ve upgraded them. I’ve got files scattered everywhere on them, plus on my MacBook and several other PCs and Macs around the house.\n
\n
I need some help consolidating this into a single solution with priority to my photos and family home videos for data integrity. Then to a lesser extent, maybe PC backups and file storage.\n
\n
Currently all of my photos are backed up to Google Photos or Amazon photos. With the fact that neither google or amazon is to be trusted with my photos, I’m ok with dumping them. Web based backup solutions are iffy, it takes forever for a backup to complete, as I am on a 60megabit download, with about a 5megabit upload connection. According to some things I’ve seen advertised nearby, fiber is being ran throughout the area, but it may be a year or two before it comes to my neighborhood.\n
\n
For other hardware I have laying about, I have a 1st gen i7 980x system that is idle nowadays and is full of low capacity drives by today’s standards, a 2008 MacBook, the above mentioned 2012 MacBook Pro, an Atom n450 netbook, and an AMD Ryzen 5700g based prebuilt. None of them really seem to be something that would be useful as a ZFS based NAS or anything. But is a ZFS NAS or BTRFS system something that I need, or would my needs be better met by something else?\n
\n
I have also looked at an OWC Mercurydisk M-Disc compatible burner for photo and video backup.\n
\n
What are some options to look into? Preference would be on not breaking the bank and not necessarily set and forget it, but something I haven’t got to fight with to keep running.

Very cliché, I played Ocarina of Time a ton as a child, have memories of playing it both on N64 as a wee child and on game cube as a less small child. Never got past water temple even with the game guide.\n
\n
Yu-Gi-Oh forbidden memories. Played the crap out of that game on play station, constantly playing on free play praying for the cards I would need to get further. I was never able to beat more than 1-2 of the high mages. Watching speed runs on the game it turns out I was never ever going to beat that game as a kid. The final 6 are just disgustingly brutal.

My two:\n
\n
Very cliché, I played Ocarina of Time a ton as a child, have memories of playing it both on N64 as a wee child and on game cube as a less small child. Never got past water temple even with the game guide.\n
\n
Yu-Gi-Oh forbidden memories. Played the crap out of that game on play station, constantly playing on free play praying for the cards I would need to get further. I was never able to beat more than 1-2 of the high mages. Watching speed runs on the game it turns out I was never ever going to beat that game as a kid. The final 6 are just disgustingly brutal.
