Opening Notes (important stuff, please read)\n
\n
```\n
\n
<span style="color:#323232;">This configuration of the Stremio app will allow you to stream movies/TV from most devices, with the exception being IOS devices such as the iPhone and iPad. If you want to stream from those devices, this guide is not for you.\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">You can use this Stremio configuration to stream movies/TV on most other platforms, including Windows, Mac, Android, FireOS (includes Fire Stick and Fire TV), Linux, AndroidTV, and even the Steam Deck.\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">However, the Stremio setup guide will require that you use a Windows, Mac, Linux, or Android device. Please don't attempt the setup steps on another device.\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">Additional information for FireOS (includes Fire Stick and Fire TV) and Linux devices is located below the Stremio setup guide, but you need to go through the Stremio setup guide beforehand with a required device (Refer to previous bullet point).\n
</span>\n
```\n
\n
Stremio Setup Guide\n
\n
Part 1: Stremio\n
\n
```\n
\n
<span style="color:#323232;">For Windows/Mac users - Go to https://www.stremio.com/ and download the relevant client for your platform\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">For Android users - Install Stremio through the Google Play Store: Stremio - Apps on Google Play\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">Open Stremio and sign up with email or Facebook\n
</span>\n
```\n
\n
Part 2: Real Debrid\n
\n
```\n
\n
<span style="color:#323232;">Go to https://real-debrid.com/\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">Sign up\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">Go to Premium Offers\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">Choose a package and subscribe. I found that using Amazon Pay as the payment method is the most convenient (if you have an Amazon account)\n
</span>\n
```\n
\n
Part 3: Torrentio\n
\n
```\n
\n
<span style="color:#323232;">Go to Torrentio Lite - Stremio Addon\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">Towards the bottom of the page, select the "Debrid Provider" option and select "Real Debrid" from the drop-down menu. This will cause a new text box to appear underneath.\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">Copy the API key from this link https://real-debrid.com/apitoken and paste it into the "RealDebrid API Key**"** box\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">In the Debrid Options menu: Check the box "Don't show download to debrid links" and leave the other boxes unchecked.\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">Click "Install" at the bottom. It should open the Stremio app and prompt you with an "Install Addon" window. Click the green install button at the bottom.\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">Optional but highly Recommended - In Stremio, click the puzzle piece in the top right to view your addons. Click "My Addons" and uninstall the "WatchHub" addon. It's an eyesore and it clutters your streams list.\n
</span>\n
```\n
\n
Now that you have completed the setup, you may install Stremio on any device of your choice (excluding IOS) and log in to your account to start streaming Movies/TV. Refer to the section below for Stremio installation on FireOS devices (Fire Stick, FireTV).\n
\n
FireOS devices (Fire Stick, FireTV)\n
\n
After you have gone through the setup on another device, watch this video on how to install Stremio on your FireOS device [youtu.be/U1o-scADuIg](https://youtu.be/U1o-scADuIg) and then log into your account in the Stremio app. At this point you’re good to stream. It will download everything that you just set up and sync your shows across all devices. However, some FireOS devices may not be capable of 4k streaming.\n
\n
Edit 10/16/2023 - if you are on firestick, make sure to download the Android TV apk from the Stremio downloads section. The youtube video linked above was created before Stremio had an Android TV version. The UI is much improved over the base android UI for use on a smart tv.\n
\n
Linux\n
\n
At the time of making this guide, I had issues in the setup process on Linux but I’m pretty sure that was my fault for having weird defaults on my Arch install. You should be able to complete the setup process on Linux without issues and streaming is guaranteed to work. In the case that you run into issues, Just complete the setup steps on a recommended device first, then install and log into the Stremio app on your Linux device.\n
\n
Additional information\n
\n
YOU DO NOT NEED A VPN.\n
\n
Account sharing: You should only share your Stremio account with people who are connected to the same WiFi network as you. If you do not follow this rule, your Real Debrid account may be suspended.\n
\n
Bugs/Glitches:\n
\n
```\n
\n
<span style="color:#323232;">Sometimes, an episode of a show or a movie will display "No streams found" even though it should be available. This has only happened to me a handful of times, but the problem will resolve itself eventually.\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">If the picture is black but the audio is still playing, you should go back and select a stream with a different resolution.\n
</span>\n
```\n
\n
Issue: No streams are appearing at all, or none of them work. Here are the possible explanations:\n
\n
```\n
\n
<span style="color:#323232;">Your Real Debrid Subscription has expired. Go to Real-Debrid and check your account status.\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">Real Debrid servers are down/undergoing maintenance. Wait an hour or so, and then try again.\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">You made a mistake while following the guide. My DMs are open if you can't figure it out. I'll probably try to help.\n
</span>\n
Opening Notes (important stuff, please read)\n
\n
```\n
\n
<span style="color:#323232;">This configuration of the Stremio app will allow you to stream movies/TV from most devices, with the exception being IOS devices such as the iPhone and iPad. If you want to stream from those devices, this guide is not for you.\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">You can use this Stremio configuration to stream movies/TV on most other platforms, including Windows, Mac, Android, FireOS (includes Fire Stick and Fire TV), Linux, AndroidTV, and even the Steam Deck.\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">However, the Stremio setup guide will require that you use a Windows, Mac, Linux, or Android device. Please don't attempt the setup steps on another device.\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">Additional information for FireOS (includes Fire Stick and Fire TV) and Linux devices is located below the Stremio setup guide, but you need to go through the Stremio setup guide beforehand with a required device (Refer to previous bullet point).\n
</span>\n
```\n
\n
Stremio Setup Guide\n
\n
Part 1: Stremio\n
\n
```\n
\n
<span style="color:#323232;">For Windows/Mac users - Go to https://www.stremio.com/ and download the relevant client for your platform\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">For Android users - Install Stremio through the Google Play Store: Stremio - Apps on Google Play\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">Open Stremio and sign up with email or Facebook\n
</span>\n
```\n
\n
Part 2: Real Debrid\n
\n
```\n
\n
<span style="color:#323232;">Go to https://real-debrid.com/\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">Sign up\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">Go to Premium Offers\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">Choose a package and subscribe. I found that using Amazon Pay as the payment method is the most convenient (if you have an Amazon account)\n
</span>\n
```\n
\n
Part 3: Torrentio\n
\n
```\n
\n
<span style="color:#323232;">Go to Torrentio Lite - Stremio Addon\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">Towards the bottom of the page, select the "Debrid Provider" option and select "Real Debrid" from the drop-down menu. This will cause a new text box to appear underneath.\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">Copy the API key from this link https://real-debrid.com/apitoken and paste it into the "RealDebrid API Key**"** box\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">In the Debrid Options menu: Check the box "Don't show download to debrid links" and leave the other boxes unchecked.\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">Click "Install" at the bottom. It should open the Stremio app and prompt you with an "Install Addon" window. Click the green install button at the bottom.\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">Optional but highly Recommended - In Stremio, click the puzzle piece in the top right to view your addons. Click "My Addons" and uninstall the "WatchHub" addon. It's an eyesore and it clutters your streams list.\n
</span>\n
```\n
\n
Now that you have completed the setup, you may install Stremio on any device of your choice (excluding IOS) and log in to your account to start streaming Movies/TV. Refer to the section below for Stremio installation on FireOS devices (Fire Stick, FireTV).\n
\n
FireOS devices (Fire Stick, FireTV)\n
\n
After you have gone through the setup on another device, watch this video on how to install Stremio on your FireOS device [youtu.be/U1o-scADuIg](https://youtu.be/U1o-scADuIg) and then log into your account in the Stremio app. At this point you’re good to stream. It will download everything that you just set up and sync your shows across all devices. However, some FireOS devices may not be capable of 4k streaming.\n
\n
Edit 10/16/2023 - if you are on firestick, make sure to download the Android TV apk from the Stremio downloads section. The youtube video linked above was created before Stremio had an Android TV version. The UI is much improved over the base android UI for use on a smart tv.\n
\n
Linux\n
\n
At the time of making this guide, I had issues in the setup process on Linux but I’m pretty sure that was my fault for having weird defaults on my Arch install. You should be able to complete the setup process on Linux without issues and streaming is guaranteed to work. In the case that you run into issues, Just complete the setup steps on a recommended device first, then install and log into the Stremio app on your Linux device.\n
\n
Additional information\n
\n
YOU DO NOT NEED A VPN.\n
\n
Account sharing: You should only share your Stremio account with people who are connected to the same WiFi network as you. If you do not follow this rule, your Real Debrid account may be suspended.\n
\n
Bugs/Glitches:\n
\n
```\n
\n
<span style="color:#323232;">Sometimes, an episode of a show or a movie will display "No streams found" even though it should be available. This has only happened to me a handful of times, but the problem will resolve itself eventually.\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">If the picture is black but the audio is still playing, you should go back and select a stream with a different resolution.\n
</span>\n
```\n
\n
Issue: No streams are appearing at all, or none of them work. Here are the possible explanations:\n
\n
```\n
\n
<span style="color:#323232;">Your Real Debrid Subscription has expired. Go to Real-Debrid and check your account status.\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">Real Debrid servers are down/undergoing maintenance. Wait an hour or so, and then try again.\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">You made a mistake while following the guide. My DMs are open if you can't figure it out. I'll probably try to help.\n
</span>\n
```\n
\n
Credit to u/OnlyTheCruxes for most of this stuff because I kinda just copied their guide and added more detail based on my own personal experience with the setup process (Original guide: Installing Stremino + Torrentio + Real Debird )
Inspired by this post:\n
\n
[If we’re reviving everything then start with Mythbusters](https://lemmy.ca/post/11374607)\n
\n
What are some modern channels that do similar stuff? If episodes area available, what are older shows that might work?\n
\n
Some more general examples that come to mind:\n
\n
- [SloMoGuys](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUK0HBIBWgM2c4vsPhkYY4w) - mostly seeing things in slow motion to see how it works\n
- [How Ridiculous](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5f5IV0Bf79YLp_p9nfInRA) - For a younger audience, but it fits\n
- [Mark Rober](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCY1kMZp36IQSyNx_9h4mpCg) - Engineered stuff\n
\n
Not quite related, but maybe:\n
\n
- [How it’s made](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNAUoDS2SihRhVl-dyqj2yA)\n
- [XKCD’s What If Channel](https://www.youtube.com/@xkcd_whatif)
You have been sentenced to life in a micronation of your choosing (Sealand, Molossia, etc.) The micronation must have actual land and you may never leave that land. What micronation do you choose?\n
Edit: clarification of the rules. A micronation is by definition not recognized internationally. As a result, small sovereign states like the Vatican are not allowed.\n
Also you can’t just make your own micronation wherever you want. It has to already exist.
Okay… But we can take a DNA test and get our ancestry, telling us what percentage of what races make up our overall ethnicity. So how is race a social construct and not a biological feature, when we have a scientific method to determine our race? This part of the philosophy has been bothering me ever since I read it, and I’ve been hesitant to ask because of how offensive people get when you question this system.
So how is race a social construct and not a biological feature, when we have a scientific method to determine our race? This part of the philosophy has been bothering me ever since I read it, and I’ve been hesitant to ask because of how offensive people get when you question this system.
I’m running Graphene on a Pixel 6. I lost it and someone opened it somehow and called two of my contacts to give it back.\n
I’m a bit confused how this even happened. When I got the phone back, they were going through my contacts. I checked app usage stats and they went through a banking app (not missing money), maps, signal, etc.\n
Is there a way to figure out how they even unlocked my phone?
Hi, I’ve got an old netbook from Samsung that has an old Intel Atom CPU (Intel Atom N455 1.66 GHz). I installed Arch on it and am now thinking of a suitable window manager. I tried Hyprland (kinda expecting it to not work really) whick didn’t start at all. Before I had Debian with Gnome, which technically worked, but everything was extremely slow.\n
\n
I’ve used Gnome for a long time, but I know that there are a lot of other window managers out there. I would like to have one that avoids graphical gimmickry in order to be fast. (I like some nice little graphical details, but only if it’s still running buttery smooth).\n
If you have some tips that would be very nice!\n
EDIT: thank you for all the recommendations I’ll try out a few!
+title: "recommendations for lightweight window managers for an old netbook"
+url: null
+body: """
Hi, I’ve got an old netbook from Samsung that has an old Intel Atom CPU (Intel Atom N455 1.66 GHz). I installed Arch on it and am now thinking of a suitable window manager. I tried Hyprland (kinda expecting it to not work really) whick didn’t start at all. Before I had Debian with Gnome, which technically worked, but everything was extremely slow.\n
\n
I’ve used Gnome for a long time, but I know that there are a lot of other window managers out there. I would like to have one that avoids graphical gimmickry in order to be fast. (I like some nice little graphical details, but only if it’s still running buttery smooth).\n
\n
If you have some tips that would be very nice!\n
\n
EDIT: thank you for all the recommendations I’ll try out a few!
Hi everyone!\n
\n
I’m trying to control a “dumb” led light strip segment with an ESP-01S. This is fairly low current, the strip will pull 150mA-200mA max (depends on… artistic? needs).\n
\n
I have two NPN transistors (2N2222), one to control the 12V supply to the white “channel” and the other the red+blue (don’t need the green).\n
\n
I had to pull-down the gates as I had some flickering, and it works perfectly if I manually connect the GPIOs **after** the ESP-01S boots.\n
\n
The ESP will boot if I have the RX pin (GPIO03) pulled down on boot, but not if I pull down any of the others.\n
\n
I’m not smart enough to come up with a way to have that extra pin I need to be high only during boot, while the gate it’s attached to needs to be pulled down…\n
\n
Any thought, other than getting something with more IO pins?
