[1 Up Games](1upgames.game.blog) is a new gaming blog focused on reviews and opinion pieces.\n
\n
We could post an endless barrage of news stories but there are literally hundreds of sites dedicated to gaming news and trying to compete with them all is pointless. So instead what this site will be is a place for opinion pieces like [Microsoft buys Activision. So What Happens Now?](https://1upgames.game.blog/2023/10/13/microsoft-buys-activision-so-what-happens-now/) and [The PS5 Slim is a rip-off](https://1upgames.game.blog/2023/10/10/the-new-playstation-5-slim-is-a-massive-rip-off/).\n
\n
There will also be reviews of games both old and new. Our Mini Review series will focus on older games like [Gran Turismo](https://1upgames.game.blog/2023/10/08/mini-review-gran-turismo/) while new games (and select older titles) will be treated with full length reviews like our recent [Forza Motorsport](https://1upgames.game.blog/2023/10/11/forza-motorsport-review/) review.\n
\n
So if you’re interested in games both old and new then 1 Up Games is the place for you.\n
\n
**Our plans for the future**\n
\n
The current site is a free WordPress blog however once the site starts attracting a healthy number of visits the plan is to move to a paid for hosting plan and a massively upgraded site. It’s at this point (if it happens) that you will see more regular news stories on the site and maybe even a social media presence outside of Lemmy.\n
\n
**Can you help?**\n
\n
This is my first real writing project. I enjoy writing and I especially enjoy writing about games.\n
\n
However I am not an experienced writer which I’m sure you’ve already noticed. So I’m asking for your help. If you have any feedback, pointers, criticisms or anything else about the blog or the actual writing then please let me know either in the comments or sending me a message or leaving a comment of the article in question.\n

I was wondering who is going to pay for the reconstruction of all the razed apartment buildings, schools and hospitals in Gaza? Are the US and Europe going to do that, or is Israel going to do at least this?\n
\n
I am genuinely curious what the US (Americans) think about this, they provide Israel with munitions and military aid which are used to destroy civilian buildings and infrastructure in Gaza and then they will pay once again to restore them?

I have some metal film 1/2w 2.2ohm resistors in some car wiring. I’m concerned about the durability of this install and am seeking advice on how to protect the resistor once it’s soldered in place. The obvious is heat shrink tubing, but it’s there anything more substantial?\n
\n
I’ll be using these resistors in a custom pigtail that will plug into the car wiring. 3D printed housing? I have tried searching and I haven’t found anything like that.

Who are these for? People who use the terminal but don’t like running shell commands?\n
\n
OK sorry for throwing shade. If you use one of these, honestly, what features do you use that make it worthwhile?\n
\n
EDIT: Just to clarify, my point is I would almost always reach for `fzf`, `fd`, or `rg` before trying to manually search through a directory in a file manager.\n
\n
EDIT2: A few people mentioned selecting files in a TUI. I don’t find it any harder to select files using autocomplete. It might even be faster to start typing a name than it is it “scroll” through a list of files.\n
\n
EDIT3: Here’s a neat tool that can add some flexibility to your shell workflow: [github.com/urbanogilson/lineselect](https://github.com/urbanogilson/lineselect)

I just acquired a new PC, and it hasn’t been turned on yet. I would love some advice and tips on what to do before I get started with it to protect my privacy.\n

I’m a privacy-conscious person, but not dogmatic about it. And honestly, this is the first desktop PC I’ve had since Windows XP was a thing. So it goes without saying, I’m very out-of-the-loop when it comes to Windows. I’m not opposed to putting a Linux distro on it, as long as it’s very easy for a beginner to learn on.\n
\n
Really tho, I’d like to know if there’s anything I should or shouldn’t do as I’m booting the comp up for it’s first time. Im grateful for any and all advice here. Thanks!!\n
\n
***Edit:*** thanks for all the responses so far! I figured it’d probably help to list my use cases for the PC. It’ll *mostly* be used for gaming, music production & sound design, collecting music and movies (which will likely involve me regaining my old sea legs, hoisting the black flag, and sailing the high seas). At some point in the future, I wouldn’t mind learning how to host a media server for friends and family to access, but I got lots to learn before I dip my toes into that. My privacy concerns are pretty general - I’d like to prevent corporate data mining mostly, but since I may be screaming *“yo ho ho”* soon too, I’d like to be protected in those regards as well

While many popular English language TV shows seem to be dubbed into other widely-spoken languages (looking for French, personally), the releases that include those audio tracks unfortunately often either have lower bitrates than their English-only counterparts (which only include subtitles for other languages) or only have one of several seasons that made its way from the scene to usenet or a torrent tracker. Therefore, to avoid needing to download two variants of the same content and merge the sought combination of their video/audio tracks, is there a simpler means of acquiring dubbed audio of movies and TV shows?\n
\n
Language-specific public trackers (Torrent911 and YGGTorrent for French) seem to be a reliable means of acquiring alternate releases of movies containing dubbed audio that otherwise are identical in length to the original English releases, making them mergeable, but they seem to be lacking in terms of dubbed releases for anything but the most popular movies and TV shows. Usenet fills the gaps somewhat, but as language-specific private torrent trackers seem hard to gain access to, I haven’t found a reliable source for most dubbed releases and dubbed audio tracks.

+url: null
+body: """
