+url: null
+body: """
This poem has always helped me keep a level head, stay on my path. I hope it helps someone else too.\n
\n
---\n
\n
Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.\n
\n
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.\n
\n
Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.\n
\n
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.\n
\n
Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.\n
\n
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass.\n
\n
Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.\n
\n
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.\n
\n
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.\n

Feature: Horizontal swipe for next post (experimental)\n
\n
Version: 1.0.171\n
\n
Followup to my [previous post](https://sh.itjust.works/post/2641258).\n
\n
**Appreciation:**\n
\n
The “swipe for next post” area has been extended to include the comments section. Thank you!\n
\n
**Bug 1:**\n
\n
The sort order when swiping through posts does not match the sort order set in the main scroll feed. I haven’t been able to figure out what sort order is being used, but the second post is often the same no matter which post was initially selected from the main feed.\n
\n
**Bug 2:**\n
\n
The “swipe for previous” gesture doesn’t go past whichever post was originally selected from the main scroll feed. My ideal Lemmy browsing experience is “sort by new”, scroll to the oldest post I have not yet viewed, and “swipe for previous” until I’m caught up to the present. The current swipe functionality doesn’t seem to support this.\n
\n
**Bug 3:**\n
\n
Swiping to a post sometimes results in errors such as “Couldn’t load via local instance. Actions may be unavaila” and “Post 123456 from lemmy.instance failed to load”. Strangely enough, these posts often load just fine when opened via the main scroll feed.\n
\n
**Feature request:**\n
\n
Followup to a previous feature request:\n
\n
> As I don’t use swiping gestures on comments, I would find it useful if the “swipe for next post” area were extended to include the comments section when comment swipe actions are disabled.\n
\n
For posts with zero or few comments, I would find it useful if the swipe area also included the empty region with no comments :)\n
\n
Thanks again, Kuro, for your continued development of this app!

Also how would one come to recognize reality’s irrationality anyway? By which I should clarify, when I say reality I mean the whole of existence, beyond everyday society which is a mush of reason, emotion, and ambiguous causation. I currently have two computers, one that has a big zfs raidz pool that I currently back everything up to. Right now, on my local computer I use `rsnapshot` to do snapshot backups via rsync to the remote zfs pool. I know I’m wasting a ton of space because I have snapshotting in the rsync backup, and then the zfs pool is snapshotted every day.\n

Does it make sense to just do a regular `rsync` into a backup directory on the zfs pool and then just rely on the zfs pool snapshotting for snapshotting?\n

Maybe eventually I will put the local machine on zfs and then just send the local zfs snapshots over, but that will take some time. Thanks!

+title: "[DISCUSSION] The "Golden Age" of Live-Action Revival Films Based on Classic TV Shows"
+url: null
+body: """
I recently re-watched “The Flintstones” (1993). It both reminded and blew me away by how well they revived the classic animated series and brought it to life in such amazing detail while staying perfectly true to the source material.\n
\n
Then, I started thinking about how there was a kind of “golden age” of revival films based on classic TV shows that hadn’t yet received feature-length films. Not to mention, most of them were pretty entertaining, if not excellent. I began compiling a list.\n
\n
The parameters of the list are as follows:\n
\n
1. The original IP must be a television series with a premier date prior to 1970.\n
2. It must be a live-action, feature-length, theatrical release between 1990 and 1999.\n
3. It must feature an all new cast (but cameos are permitted).\n
4. It must not be a continuation of the original series’ storyline.\n
5. It must not be a spin-off of the original series from which it is based.\n
\n
And so, here is the list I came up with:\n
\n
- “The Addams Family” (1991)\n
- “The Beverly Hillbillies” (1993)\n
- “Addams Family Values” (1993)\n
- “Dennis the Menace” (1993)\n
- “The Flintstones” (1994)\n
- “The Brady Bunch Movie” (1995)\n
- “A Very Brady Sequel” (1996)\n
\n
This marks the end of this “golden age” in my mind and I feel the quality of these revival films began to slide as their novelty began to fade and audiences began to lose interest:\n
\n
- “McHale’s Navy” (1997)\n
- “George of the Jungle” (1997)\n
- “Leave It to Beaver” (1997)\n
- “Lost in Space” (1998)\n
- “Dudley Do-Right” (1999)\n
- “Wild Wild West” (1999)\n
\n
Admittedly, I haven’t seen (or don’t remember seeing) most of the post-1996 films, so perhaps I’m being unfair to some of them.\n
\n
Honorable mentions:\n
\n
- “The Little Rascals” (1994)\n
- - While the original IP is not a television, but a short film series from the 20s, 30s, and 40s, I do feel it deserves to be included with the 90s revival films mentioned above. It was just so well done!\n
- “Josie and the Pussy Cats” (2001)\n
- - It lies just outside the parameters I’ve established with the original show premiering in 1970 and the film adaptation being released in 2001. However, it does have a distinctly 2000s look and feel as opposed to its 90s counterparts mentioned above. Still, it was a surprisingly great film and deserves a mention.\n
\n
So, what do you think? Did I miss any? What are some of your favorites? Did I pay too much attention to American comedies? Am I wrong about some or all of them? Are there any that should be revisited?

+slug: "DISCUSSION-The-Golden-Age-of-Live-Action-Revival-Films-Based-on"
+title: "[DISCUSSION] The "Golden Age" of Live-Action Revival Films Based on Classic TV Shows"
+url: null

- 8096 for the HTTP Web UI\n
- 8920 for the HTTPS Web UI\n
- 7359/udp for autodiscovery of jellyfin from clients\n
- 1900/udp for service discovery from DLNA and clients\n
\n
Additionally there is also an environment variable `JELLYFIN_PublishedServerUrl` which is for “Setting the autodiscovery response domain or IP address”. I currently have that set to my subdomain `https://jellyfin.mydomain.com` though I am not sure if that is correct.\n
\n
I already have a reverse-proxy set up allowing me to access my servers webinterface under `https://jellyfin.mydomain.com` without exposing the https port on the container. What I am unsure about now however, is what to do with the two ports for UDP traffic.\n
\n
By my understanding, a reverse-proxy will only forward traffic which comes to the ports 80 for http and 443 for https. Those are also the only ports my reverse-proxy container has exposed alongside the management interface. As such the 2 udp ports will not be reachable under my jellyfin domain.\n
\n
How can I change this or is this even an issue?
