I recently bought a shag rug for my living room. Not realizing that the motor/actuator for my electric recliner sat directly over the floor, the fibers got caught in the actuator which is now seized and no longer functions. For further clarification, the actuator is a large metal screw with a plastic piece that fits over it like a ring on a finger. The plastic piece gets bolted to the recliner’s internal hardware. I see a lot of companies with fresh faced 25 year olds that are running all kinds of AI stuff. Everything from NPT, Vision, organization tools.\n

What I don’t get is how they’re doing this with such small teams. How are these young companies building out AI services?

It seems society always goes down the shitter over and over following the same path. People rise to wealth and power extracted on the repression of the masses, massive disparity, ignorance exemplified, xenophobia and blaming minorities for any possible issue, laws signed with golden pens but becoming more meaningless when they’re only enforced to protect the wealthy…. Then some sort of collapse, fragmentation, and/or dystopia usually in conjunction with war, purges, and killing in the name of tribalism.\n

History seems to rewind the cassette and record right over the top with the same old song.

I was having this conversation with my daughter and thought it was an interesting topic.\n
\n
If an EMP or solar flare took out everything electronic in the whole world (permanently), how long do you think it would take for you to die, given your current location and circumstances.\n
\n
I believe my daughter thinks we would live a lot longer than I do, but she is thinking about how long she can live without the internet while I am thinking the world will quickly descend into anarchy.\n
\n
With no traditional forms of transport, so supplies would dry up, limited resources, health etc, law and order would be a challenge as things become more desperate.\n
\n
I think I would live for about 3 months. I would try to get the family somewhere safe and remote and come back later, but I think most people would have the same idea.

Hey there, fellow movie enthusiasts! I’m on the hunt for films that portray positive masculinity. We often see movies with traditional, stereotypical portrayals of masculinity, but I believe there’s a world of cinema out there that can challenge these norms and offer a fresh perspective.\n
\n
So, I’m turning to you, the experts of Lemmy, to help me discover hidden gems and well-known classics that showcase men in a positive light, breaking free from the clichés. Positive masculinity can encompass a wide range of qualities such as empathy, vulnerability, strength in character, and emotional intelligence. I’m interested in any genre – from drama and comedy to action and sci-fi – as long as the films make us question what it means to be a man.\n

Let’s curate a list of films that define positive masculinity in cinema.

Hi, I’m looking for a distro for my laptop. My first distro was Pop!_OS, then I switched to Fedora, then Arch for a year and 2 months ago I switched to Fedora Silverblue, because I wanted to try immutable distro that relies on containers and flatpaks to be usefull. Silverblue is great but not so much for me, its not flexible enough.\n

I’m thinking of switching to Arch but maybe it’s time for something else. Maybe NixOS or Void, Gentoo probably not, I don’t have time for compiling everything. What do you recommend?\n

It must support full disk encryption, secure boot with signing with YOUR OWN KEYS, systemd (because of MullvadVPN), everything else I think can work on any distro (Gnome, podman, kvm, etc.).

It seems like there’s been a lot more websites that have been deploying anti-adware blocker software in the past few weeks. One that stands out in particular is called Admiral (see websites like GameRant for an example).\n

I have tried Adguard Plus and Rethink DNS (using the instructions from FMHY), and neither can prevent the popup that stops you from reading the site. I assume there’s user scripts out there, but at this point, I don’t even know what to search for on Greasyfork.\n

Have any of you figured out a workaround?

Edit: For those who stumble across this with the same issue, I eventually got it working by adding `“default-runtime”: “nvidia”,` to `/etc/docker/daemon.json` then restarting the docker service and Jellyfin container.\n
\n
I am in the process of setting up a new media server on an old PC using Ubuntu Server and CasaOS and have run into my first major roadblock.\n
\n
To give some background, I formerly had my media server running on my main gaming PC on Windows using Plex and the *arr suite. I’m now trying to do things the right way and set everything back up from scratch on some spare hardware with Jellyfin and all the rest in dockerized containers. I chose CasaOS because I’m not overly familiar with Linux and thought that would be a good way to ease into things.\n
\n
Everything was going well until I tried to get hardware acceleration enabled in Jellyfin. For the life of me I cannot seem to get the Nvidia drivers properly installed, much less give Jellyfin access to the device. I’m using a GTX 960.\n
\n
I’m not sure exactly what additional info I need to give here, but here’s something I hope helps:\n
\n
```\n
\n
<span style="color:#323232;">*****@home-server:/$ nvidia-smi\n
</span><span style="color:#323232;">NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn't communicate with the NVIDIA driver. Make sure that the latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running.\n
I’m now trying to do things the right way and set everything back up from scratch on some spare hardware with Jellyfin and all the rest in dockerized containers. I chose CasaOS because I’m not overly familiar with Linux and thought that would be a good way to ease into things.\n
\n
Everything was going well until I tried to get hardware acceleration enabled in Jellyfin. For the life of me I cannot seem to get the Nvidia drivers properly installed, much less give Jellyfin access to the device. I’m using a GTX 960.\n
\n
I’m not sure exactly what additional info I need to give here, but here’s something I hope helps:\n
Edit: For those who stumble across this with the same issue, I eventually got it working by adding `“default-runtime”: “nvidia”,` to `/etc/docker/daemon.json` then restarting the docker service and Jellyfin container.\n
I am in the process of setting up a new media server on an old PC using Ubuntu Server and CasaOS and have run into my first major roadblock.\n
