I’ve always had really awful birthdays. Either it was outright ignored or I was punished for even having one. My parents were… unpleasant. Star Trek became my escape. Could see amazing people make amazing choices and be the best they wanted to be instead of lying and saying they were good people. Actions speak louder than words, after all, and the actions of the crew of the Enterprise-D (specifically) were what helped me sort of override a lot of the disgusting hateful stuff I was taught as a child. Also made me feel like a person instead of a burden.\n

I’ve not really been able to delve in deep to a lot of Trek communities sometimes because, well, it’s the internet. People can get a bit toxic behind a computer screen. This place has been ***anything*** but. Pure kindness and love from everyone here. Top to the bottom. Honestly it seems pretty worth it to me to forego birthday gifts throughout my life to be able to find y’all.\n

I don’t want birthday wishes and stuff, I get enough of those from Starbucks and other companies trying to get me to buy their shit that I cannot afford, but I want y’all to appreciate yourself for a couple minutes. I can’t seem to find an instance of them removing a game from someone’s library even when a game was banned in a country like in the case of [Disco Elysium and Rimworld being banned in Australia](https://www.pcgamer.com/rimworld-is-officially-banned-in-australia-but-it-probably-wont-affect-pc/).\n

On a similar note I was curious if anything in the terms and conditions talks about Steam emulators. There’s a section it that says:\n

I’ve finalised my Archlinux installation yesterday, I dropped of Linux more than 10 years ago and experience in 2023 in comparison is awesome and beyond even wildest dreams back then:\n

- For average user looking for more out of the box experience I would suggest something Arch based (people in comments suggest EndeavourOS, please do your research). Archlinux installation took me quite some time\n
- Almost everything works out of the box, by just installing corresponding package\n
- KDE Plasma environment is fast and beautiful\n
- Pipewire audio server (Jack\Pulseaudio replacement) works great\n
- Wayland window server is not there yet, especially if you have Nvidia with proprietary drivers and want to use VR. Waking up, session restoration and other scenarios have issues. Use X11.\n
- Wine is great!\n
- Music making - Bitwig Studio DAW has linux native version, yabridge allow you to use windows VSTs, which are easily installed via wine\n
- Gaming works out of the box with Steam for majority of titles, some games have native linux version. Performance is great. In worst case windows game might loose 5-15% in performance. Was not case for my titles\n
- Gaming outside steam is fine too. Use Wine, Lutris, Proton\n
- VR is a mixed bag. Not everything is there (Desktop view, sound control and mirroring, camera, motions smooth, lighthouses do not wake up os go to sleep. I use my phone to turn them on/off).
