This tech is literally trash bathed in leaf sauce. Even if someone would patent it it’s like you tried to patent a herbal tea - yea, you may try and maybe win, but every farmer and their mom will brew one themselves from loosely scattered weeds.\n

So after a short thought it means it’s going to be a massive, profitable venture for someone, because people are actually dumb enough to pay tens of $ for a handful of sawdust and reasonably pure tannic acid if it comes with a fancy cap and in a gray cardboard box.

I was having a conversation with my friend about this. We were discussing AI and she believes AI will destroy all of humanity just like so many others. I personally don’t believe that. I’m aware of all the theories and the multitude of ways that it could happen and I understand that with AI, **in theory** we wouldn’t understand its goals so we wouldn’t know how it would destroy us but again, that’s just a theory.\n
\n
There’s also the constant fear of massive nuclear holocaust with WWIII but I also don’t believe that we’d realistically get to a point where we’d use Nukes on each other knowing the implications of what would happen. But it made me realize that we’re constantly fearful of mass extinction. To the point where some people fight tooth and nail and will not try to look at things from a more positive or optimistic perspective. It’s all death or you’re wrong.\n
\n
Please help me understand this. I’m here with open ears.

We will not. If anything COVID taught me people will actively fight against anything that minimally hurts their comfort and entrenched vision of reality.\n
\n
This time we were taken by surprise and governments were surprisingly quick to act and impose things and we were lucky to have a 90%ready tech developed precisely for this kind of event (mRNA vaccines were in late stage of development in 2020, they just speeded up finishing touches, trials and roll-out).\n
\n
In 2023 the general vibe is " we know that lockdowns, mask mandates, travel bans were the right thing to do, but we also know we won’t let them happen again". So it’s better to stay quiet, do nothing and act surprised when the next pandemic hits. Except this time those in power will know that mitigation won’t float and societies will happily sacrifice the old and the weak on the altar of economy.\n
\n
On an unrelated note, “climate mitigation” will probably never happen.

There’s also the constant fear of massive nuclear holocaust with WWIII but I also don’t believe that we’d realistically get to a point where we’d use Nukes on each other knowing the implications of what would happen. This time we were taken by surprise and governments were surprisingly quick to act and impose things and we were lucky to have a 90%ready tech developed precisely for this kind of event (mRNA vaccines were in late stage of development in 2020, they just speeded up finishing touches, trials and roll-out).\n

In 2023 the general vibe is " we know that lockdowns, mask mandates, travel bans were the right thing to do, but we also know we won’t let them happen again".

I often wondered what the purpose was of placing empty backpacks and pouches throughout the game and making them show up in the alt-view. I figured they had items in them at different difficulties or previous versions, or they were simply there for aesthetics (I think most likely option). It only just occurred to me that I could pick them up and store items in them to sort out my stupid long inventory lists.\n

Gale has a backpack with all his little scrolls. Lae’zel has a backpack that somehow holds 20 daggers, 12 javelins and a spear. And astarion has a pouch with with enough magical arrows to make the Fat Man look like a firecracker. Now the stuff I actually plan on using is much easier to find.

How about the same but about the world? If I gathered together all the places I visited, all documentaries I watched and all conversations I had it adds up to a mere glance at a myriad of different worlds. Every single small region in the world has more history and social and natural structures than any fantasy book. Living is like pulling individual pixels from a 4000000000000…000k photo which then changes every second.\n
\n
My brain explodes sometimes, but the idea of fractals helps. There is still immense value in perceiving this small collection of pixels as they build up to more and more connected structures.

My brain explodes sometimes, but the idea of fractals helps. There is still immense value in perceiving this small collection of pixels as they build up to more and more connected structures.
