Without naming names, there’s a well advertised grammar editing tool that’s available either as an app download or browser extension. This is something I’d value for a number of reasons (good grammar is important!) but I’m super cautious about anything I’m giving permission to watch what I’m typing.\n
\n
Ideally, I’d prefer to select text and have it analyzed on-demand using on-device intelligence. I’m on a Mac and it seems like Pages isn’t cut out to check grammar. Also, there’s no way in heck I’m paying $30 a month for a subscription.\n
\n
Edit: I just want to acknowledge my request for something I’d value and then saying I don’t want to pay for it. I would certainly pay for something if it met my needs but this function isn’t something I’d personally value at $30 a month or any monthly subscription ($30 a year sounds reasonable). Moreover, if there’s any suspicion of an application using my data for their own profit, they are not getting my money. So, in this case, *for the sake of data privacy*, I would prefer to pay for something (preferably once - grammar shouldn’t need updating).

I’m a pretty new Linux user, started using a basic Mint installation on the old desktop I use as part of my stereo/tv setup. All in all couldnt be happier with how easy and flexible it’s been, but one little thing is bugging the crap out of me and I haven’t a clue how to fix.\n
\n
This setup runs the computer audio through a mojo DAC over TOSLINK (eg optical audio) to an analog stereo amp. Getting it to work when I replaced Win 7 with Mint was plug and play - couldn’t have been easier. The super annoying thing is that it seems that now if the desktop is inactive for more than a few minutes the DAC powers down and needs to be turned on manually (fairly certain it’s when the OS goes to sleep but not sure). When I was running windows with same hardware it would not power down until I did it manually. With the wiring and furniture setup I have it’s kind of a PITA to reach back and turn the DAC on every time I want to use the computer.\n
\n
I did some cursory internet searches on the issue without much luck. If one of you fine people can think of a solution, it even an avenue of investigation, I’d appreciate it. As I said, I’m new to Linux but not entirely tech illiterate so im willing to poke at it.

Hello Linux people, I need a bit of help. I wanted to leverage the new 545 NVIDIA drivers, but no other OS that I know of has them yet, so I installed Arch Linux using the handy archinstall script. I followed an external guide on how to get NVIDIA cards up and running. This one specifically: <https://github.com/korvahannu/arch-nvidia-drivers-installation-guide>. And yes, I checked it against the wiki (from what I could understand, the linked guide has no issues). After I rebooted everything went okay. Tested out resource-intesive games and they ran as expected with the proprietary drivers. However (and I don’t know if this is a problem related to the drivers), I just tried suspending the KDE Wayland session on my laptop (Forgot to mention that I followed the wiki on how to get nvidia-suspend and nvidia-hibernate set up, and they were set up correctly), but when I tried waking it up, the screen freezes in a black background with only the kde cursor (I cannot move the cursor in this state) so the only option I know of is to forcefully shutdown the system and reboot. I am not very experienced in Linux so I could use some assistance in finding the source of this problem.\n

Been using Connect for months, great app! I am in Beta program. Last few hours I am unable to access my main instance (lemmy.sdf.org) using my main account with it, I get error\n
\n
> `Error An error occurred when retrieving from Lemmy. sdf.org. Details: type ‘Null’ is not a subtype of type ‘bool’ in type cast`\n
\n
I am able to access this using desktop browser. I am able to access alt accounts on other instances using Connect.\n
\n
How to fix this?\n
\n
**Edit**\n
\n
As some commenters here have pointed out this is due to SDF upgrading their server to version 0.19 which isn’t ready and breaks app support- see\n

I can only think of 2 things but would love clarification if any one knows. 1. they found a virus or something malicious in a release, or 2. they got a dmca or copyright takedown\n
\n
Both seem somewhat unlikely R2R has a really good reputation, and there’s enough on audioz that if copyright stuff could get anything taken down, the site wouldn’t exist at all.

It works great for most devices, but I cannot connect to any devices that are running Mullvad VPN. Disabling Mullvad on those devices allows me to connect. Also, if I SSH into a device that does *not* run Mullvad, I can use that SSH session to then communicate with those Mullvad devices. Any ideas?"

Hi. I’ve been using [powerlevel10k](https://github.com/romkatv/powerlevel10k) for a long time, but a few days ago, I decided I wanted to customize it a bit. I opened the .p10k.zsh file, and I was shocked. It’s really massive, with TONS of options. I’ve been digging through for a few hours already, and it’s absolutely amazing how much you can customize it without actually programming anything. I was wondering what other people are using. So my questions are:\n
\n
- **Do you customize your shell prompt?**\n
- **If yes, do you use some *framework* or pre-made theme, or do you just configure it the vanilla way in your bashrc/zshrc/…**\n
- **How is your experiences with it so far?**\n
- **Share screenshot of your prompts, please**(Sadly, my prompt is currently half done, so I can’t really share it)

Hello, I have a question regarding the usage of a reverse-proxy which is part of a docker network.\n

I currently use Nginx Proxy Manager as a reverse-proxy for all my services hosted in docker. This works great since I can simply forward using each containers name. I have some services however (e.g. homeassistant) which are hosted separately in a VM or using docker on another device.\n

Is it possible to use the same reverse-proxy for those services as well? I haven’t found a way to forward to hosts outside of the proxies docker network (except for using the host network setting which I would like to avoid)

+body: "So I am looking to get precense detection in my living room. I think I want mmwave as I do want to detect people that are sitting on the couch for example. And I saw most don’t have a large distance and angle as my living room/kitchen is 8m by 12m(in an L shape) so most with a 4-6m detection distance are not enough. Also regarding the price I am looking at esphome with a hi-link sensor. But I would like to get some recommendations if I should get a LD2420 or LD2410. Some say the 2420 can’t detect a stationary target but the 2410 has less range(6m vs 8m). So I thought place 2 LD2420’s for 120 degree 8m coverage in the corner of the L with a esp8266. Would this work for stationary targets? (it doesn’t have to be able to differentiate between the two just not be like a infrared motion sensor). Also if you have done this and have found problems or something to share please do so. Thanks for your sharing experience with one or both of the sensors and your knowledge about this topic."

+title: "Use YAD/Zenity dialogues to populated variables in a bash script?"

+body: """
I am learning some bash scripting.\n
\n
I am interested to learn about getting input for my scripts via a GUI interface. It seems that `yad` (forked from `zenity`) is the most robust tool for this. (But if there is a better choice I would like to hear about it too.)\n
\n
Is it possible to obtain *2 or more* named variables using `yad`? *Not* just getting the values based on their positions (`$1`, `$2`, etc), with `awk`. See “What doesn’t work” spoiler for those.\n
\n
What doesn't workI find how to obtain *one* named variable, for [example](https://askubuntu.com/questions/489497/store-the-return-string-to-a-variable-from-zenity): `sh inputStr=$(zenity --entry --title=“My Title” --text=“My Text:”) `I also find solutions relying on opening single-variable dialogues sequentially but that’s a terrible interface. Everything else relies on chopping up the output with `awk` or based on the positions, `$1`, `$2`, `$3` etc. In [this script](https://askubuntu.com/a/1251429) `$jpgfile` is obtained: `sh jpgfile=$(echo $OUTPUT | awk ‘BEGIN {FS=“,” } { print $1 }’) `This seems unmanageable because adding a new field or failing to provide input for a field will both change the output order of every subsequent value. It’s way too fragile.\n
\n
For a simple example, I want to ask the user for a file name and some content. Creating the dialogue is like this:\n
\n
```\n
\n
<span style="color:#323232;">yad --title </span><span style="color:#183691;">"Create a file"</span><span style="color:#323232;"> --form --field</span><span style="font-weight:bold;color:#a71d5d;">=</span><span style="color:#183691;">"File name"</span><span style="color:#323232;"> --field</span><span style="font-weight:bold;color:#a71d5d;">=</span><span style="color:#183691;">"Content"\n
</span>\n
```\n
\n
If you fill both fields the output in the terminal is `file|this is some text|`. How do I get them into variables like `$filename` and `$filecontent`? So then I can finish the script like this:\n
\n
```\n
\n
<span style="color:#323232;">touch </span><span style="color:#183691;">"$</span><span style="color:#323232;">filename</span><span style="color:#183691;">"\n
</span><span style="color:#62a35c;">echo </span><span style="color:#183691;">"$</span><span style="color:#323232;">filecontent</span><span style="color:#183691;">" </span><span style="font-weight:bold;color:#a71d5d;">> </span><span style="color:#323232;">$filename\n
</span>\n
```\n
\n
Is this possible??? I do not find it anywhere. I looked though all kinds of websites like [YAD Guide](https://yad-guide.ingk.se/), [yad man page](https://www.mankier.com/1/yad), [smokey01](https://smokey01.com/yad/). Maybe I missed something. On [yaddemo](https://github.com/cjungmann/yaddemo/) I read about bash arrays and it seemed to come close but I couldn’t quite piece it together.

+title: "Use YAD/Zenity dialogues to populated variables in a bash script?"
+url: null
\n
```\n
\n
<span style="color:#323232;">yad --title </span><span style="color:#183691;">"Create a file"</span><span style="color:#323232;"> --form --field</span><span style="font-weight:bold;color:#a71d5d;">=</span><span style="color:#183691;">"File name"</span><span style="color:#323232;"> --field</span><span style="font-weight:bold;color:#a71d5d;">=</span><span style="color:#183691;">"Content"\n
</span>\n
```\n
\n
If you fill both fields the output in the terminal is `file|this is some text|`. How do I get them into variables like `$filename` and `$filecontent`? So then I can finish the script like this:\n
\n
```\n
\n
<span style="color:#323232;">touch </span><span style="color:#183691;">"$</span><span style="color:#323232;">filename</span><span style="color:#183691;">"\n
</span><span style="color:#62a35c;">echo </span><span style="color:#183691;">"$</span><span style="color:#323232;">filecontent</span><span style="color:#183691;">" </span><span style="font-weight:bold;color:#a71d5d;">> </span><span style="color:#323232;">$filename\n
</span>\n
```\n
