A story telling to save me from a therapist consultation.\n
\n
No space square world. I realize that that this could be my theme philosophy. This is my general approach:\n
\n
- windows manager: tiling (bspwm)with no spaces, squared windows, no decorations, no visual effects\n
- theme: transparency and grey background buttons/white text\n
\n
Over two decades I went from a fancy looking machine to its complete opposite where minimalism is king. How did I make such a big jump? \n
To make it brief, recreating this comfort look that invaded my real environment felt reassuring at first in my virtual life. But as time went by I noticed that smooth rounded stuff that transiently showed up on my screen created:\n
\n
- more and more distraction and negatively impacted my productivity\n
- some frustration when something didn’t run as expected because I felt that everything should be as smooth as the appearance of my screen\n
\n
I would definitely say that I feel way better now and I’m more efficient but I also admit that I’ve reached an extreme where:\n
\n
- I don’t appreciate screens over 14" anymore because I feel like it’s taxing on my eyes movement and again a waste of space\n
- I don’t like wasting a pixel of space if not justified. This is also maybe influenced by preference for small screens\n
- I need extreme simplicity (which brings efficiency) to all aspects of my workflow. So I use a 36-key split keyboard, a trackball, vim-like keybindings everywhere possible, use terminal as much as I can, use fzf for all my file searches…\n
\n
Hope you will never end up like me but nice to have friends in this group if it’s too late for you ^^

ubuntu 23.10\n
\n
I can access my employer’s local network if I authenticate with a 2fa. They suggest proprietary software, but aegis authenticator (found in fdroid) works fine.\n
\n
The thing is, the phone’s screen is too small and it’s very cumbersome to navigate the screen and to click. It’s so bad I don’t want to use it, because fonts are so small you cannot read anything. It’s like they didn’t even try to optimize the local network for devices.\n
\n
However, if I could emulate this app on an ubuntu based computer, I’d use it. Can it be done?

Lately ive noticed that i was wanting to do certain things on Windows that just seemed much easier and more intuitive on Linux, based in the OS specific solutions i would see to problems i encountered. And i was more frequently using software where Windows support seemed like an after thought.\n
\n
A couple days ago i finally sat down and tried to install Mint. The installer didnt recognize my windows partition so it didnt offer any assistance. And a stroke of fate saw my internet connection dieing at the exact same time. Yes, i cant believe it either.\n
\n
So i decided to live dangerously and just try to wing the installation with no outside help. It seems like creating a second EFI partition was not the right call. The install failed, and I couldn’t get back onto windows.\n
\n
I wound up just using a live ubuntu image for a few days while i wrestled with repairing the boot loader. I didnt succeed. Eventually i just made a windows recovery disk from my Desktop with an intact copy of windows, and had to reinstall windows.\n
\n
Then i did manage to successfully install Debian, and ive been having such a great time with it so far. I feel like i probably didnt even need to keep a windows partition, especially since i could have just used my desktop if i REALLY needed windows. I havent had this much fun just using the computer since i was a kid.
