In a recent [Matrix blog post](https://matrix.org/blog/2023/11/24/this-week-in-matrix-2023-11-24/) dated November 24, they wrote:\n
\n
“*Matrix 1.9 is due out next week. Keep your eyes peeled for an update.*”\n
\n
This means that we can expect the new version this week. All new features are described [here](https://matrix.org/category/releases/).\n
\n
The most important are:\n
\n
- Role-Based Access Control\n
- Account locking (by server admins) [MSC3939]\n
- Official spec support for **custom emojis and stickers** [MSC2545/MSC1951/MSC3892/MSC4027]\n
\n
I am so excited especially about the custom emojis! Stay tuned 😎

We all know that companies like Meta sell and constantly track our lives, but are there other solutions if one runs associations or businesses through these platforms? Meta’s platforms have the most users for the most part, and it is easier to advertise through their platforms.\n

Low maintenance in this context is aiming for moderate technical knowledge/setup, lower cost, and portability in case you need to migrate your site and so minimal hassle in that process.

I have been using Linux on and off from the first shipped CDs from Ubuntu. Nowadays I mainly use OS X, because my employer provides us with MacBooks I can use in private and I like the UNIX base and I do not have to tinker to get things to work.\n

I just set up an old Thinkpad for my kids to start their digital journey with Linux Mint and am considering switching my private stuff to a separate computer.\n
\n
What I really love about OS X is the consistent usage of alt and the command keys. It basically follows the concept: „you want to do something, press Command + …“ and „you want an alternative character? Press alt + …“.\n
\n
My experience is that Linux key usage was inspired by Windows at first and Windows did not have a Command key.\n
\n
Would it be hard to get the same behavior as on OS X with a Linux system?

+url: null
+body: """
I have been using Linux on and off from the first shipped CDs from Ubuntu. Nowadays I mainly use OS X, because my employer provides us with MacBooks I can use in private and I like the UNIX base and I do not have to tinker to get things to work.\n
\n
I just set up an old Thinkpad for my kids to start their digital journey with Linux Mint and am considering switching my private stuff to a separate computer.\n
\n
What I really love about OS X is the consistent usage of alt and the command keys. It basically follows the concept: „you want to do something, press Command + …“ and „you want an alternative character? Press alt + …“.\n
\n
My experience is that Linux key usage was inspired by Windows at first and Windows did not have a Command key.\n
\n
Would it be hard to get the same behavior as on OS X with a Linux system?
