Long story short, I learned there is an XMMS release of a plugin I use in Winamp for music playback (mp3PRO). Sadly, I recoded most of my music to mp3PRO back in the day, and now I’m stuck using Winamp, even on Linux. I like the player, wouldn’t change it, but I wanted to switch to something native, like Audacious or Qmms. But, this codec is abandonware and it only has a plugin released for XMMS back in 2005 (closed source, of course).\n
\n
Is there any way I can make this plugin work in any modern player? It’s 32-bit only, but that’s not a problem, I can just use the 32-bit versions of Audacious or Qmms (Void still has 32-bit builds of them in repo)… maybe like a wrapper or something… I would debug and do whatever it needs, I just need some pointers where to start looking and what to do exactly if I’m gonna have a shot at making this work.\n
\n
I tried loading the plugin in Audacious, it throws and error while loading, something xmms_config related (can’t remember, I’m currently not at the PC I was testing this on), Qmms just says that it can’t load the plugin. I presume GTK+ would be required and I’d bundle whatever libraries it needs with the plugin, just don’t know where to start really… ldd would be a good start I guess, but I didn’t run that 😂.

I recently switched my entertainment laptop to Linux after having my work devices on it for a few years.\n
\n
The laptop has a Gforce 1050 Max-Q in it. I’m trying to run games from Steam that officially don’t support Linux.\n
\n
If I set the PRIME profile in the Nvidia control panel to “Nvidia only”, everything works as expected.\n
\n
But if I set the profile to “On demand”, the whole system freezes a few seconds after I open a game.\n
\n
I read some vague comment on Reddit saying it might have something to do with me using KDE.\n
\n
If I run it on the Intel GPU, it works no matter what profile is set (but super slow).\n
\n
The system is freshly installed using the proprietary Nvidia driver version 535.\n
\n
Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong?

Basically I am looking for a messaging platform like signal or? but with anonymous signup, perfect forward secrecy, capable of video chat, sending photos the usual uses in today’s life. But with a panic button. So that any party member could use said button to wipe all other members devices of any data instantly inside the messaging app. So if one member gets compromised, or lost their device, stolen device ect, any other member could wipe all chats, call log, and any other data strictly inside the messaging client instantly for everyone involved. Disolving the group like it never existed rendering the data unrecoverable. Amazons Wickr used to have most of these features but it is being discontinued December 2023 and who trusts amazon with their data. Does something like this exist? Sorry if I’m not explaining it well I’ll do my best to clarify and update this post. I am not trying to delete the whole device. Just the data inside the messaging app. If that does not exist. What about a separate app that could delete the entire messaging platform from the device when triggered. Assume all necessary requirements are met and this is for daily use. I haven’t been able to find any information about this error anywhere, so I’m hoping to find some help here.\n
\n
I’m using version .150 \n
The problem persists after a phone restart. \n
I haven’t tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but that’s what I’m going to try now.\n
\n
*UPDATE: Nope, that didn’t work.\n
\n
*UPDATE #2: I got frustrated with this issue and decided to install another app instead of waiting for someone to come along with the magic answer. Welp, the issue followed me to the Thunder app. This leads me to believe that it’s either an issue with my phone (possible, but I haven’t changed anything on it, either shortly before, or since this problem started) or an issue with Lemmy itself (of which I know absolutely nothing about how it works internally). \n
I did, however, see a big block of code pop up a couple times when Connect was trying and failing to load the comments, but both times it disappeared as soon as I touched the screen. I’m not a programmer, by any stretch if the imagination, so I didn’t notice if it looked weird or anything (other than appearing where it shouldn’t). I’ll keep poking at Connect and Thunder to see if I can get it to do it again so I can try to grab a screenshot.\n
\n
UPDATE #3: I was able to get the block of code to pop up again. This time it stuck around and, even though it wouldn’t let me select and copy the text, let me take pictures. It’s a pretty long chunk of (what I’m guessing is) HTML, which starts with “Error: < ! DOCTYPE html >”(minus some spaces) I took screenshots of the whole thing, but it’s like 60 screens long so, I can edit the pics into one and post it if that helps, but it will take me a while.\n
\n
UPDATE 4: This only seems to happen when I’m logged in. If I’m logged out while using the apps, I can still see the comments.

Turns out though I guess I’m doing it “wrong” or at least not in the original quality since I used handbrake instead of makemkv. I’m already 160 dvds in and about 40 more to go, is it worth, quality wise, going back and actually ripping? Is there a way to compare them? To clairify, I’ll be using makemkv from now on for the rest."

I tend to go for a NY strip 9/10 times when I’m buying steaks, unless there’s some good deal on something else. Or I’ll go to Costco and get a big roast and cut steaks out of it. I’m not super picky these days because I always sous vide and torch my steaks and they come out so nice no matter what the cut. Salt and pepper and herbs before the sous vide usually, but every now and then I’ll try out a marinade. Sometimes I’ll finish with some butter, but usually it’s fine without a finish.\n

But I do find that a NY strip just looks the best to me and has a good ratio of fat to meat for my tastes. Eating out, I may go for a ribeye or something more “premium” but I rarely get steak when I eat out. So what’s your favorite cut and how do you cook it?

+body: "I recently became interested in using operating systems or software in the most vanilla way possible!! Without changing anything, just getting new files and other stuff. I’ve changed a lot of things from Ubuntu (for example uninstalling Rhythmbox and getting VLC) and I honestly want all the Ubuntu GNOME vanilla software back, even wallpapers and etc, how can I do that?? Please, thank you!! >u<"
