Since we are all pirates moving away from Reddit I was thinking if another r/Megalinks style community could be made on Lemmy and survive? (Or pehaps already exists?)\n
\n
For those that don’t know Reddit pirate history, r/megalinks was a sub where people shared links to megaupload usually for files for download. It was a very unique hub and usually had some rare stuff that downloaded quickly thanks to the uploaded service not being p2p. I actually still have a full back up of it that I’ll check for stuff I can’t find and they’ll still be working.\n
\n
But as Reddit got bigger posts kept getting hit with takedown requests until Reddit itself got sick of it and banned the community. Eventually the community there made Snahp, which is very good but it’s private status makes it feel a bit small compared to the old megalinks sub in terms of available options.\n
\n
Posting links is sort of a strange grey area, even more so than torrent hosting, But idk what the reality of having a community like that would be. Sure an instance owner can say “I won’t care” but if it gets too big and the MPAA starts getting pissy, it might not be worth it to them. But with Lemmy’s growth and services like Debrid existing now, it would be better than torrenting for the most part. (I also use UseNet yes, but it’s not great for old or aging content)

Narwhal developer believes they can keep the third party iOS Reddit app running with a subscription.\n

Hey all, I want to give you an update on what is happening with Narwhal. I've been talking with Reddit a lot about the API changes and what it will mean for Narwhal.\n
\n
Narwhal is not going anywhere on July 1st. It will continue to operate as it has for many years (except it will not have ads anymore). Over the next few months, I am going to be adding subscriptions into Narwhal 2. The subscriptions will be there to cover the cost of using the Reddit API. I am still figuring out what to do for heavy power users, but there may be a base plan which includes X number of API requests/month and you can top up your balance with another purchase. The subscription will likely be in the $4-$7 range to start. It may change based on total usage of the app (either up or down) to cover the costs of using the reddit API.\n
\n
Yes, this means Narwhal 2 is finally going to see the light of day. Is it perfect? No. Is it as finished as I wanted it to be before I released it? No. But it makes the most sense to put subscriptions in Narwhal 2 instead of the current app.\n
\n
TLDR; Narwhal is not going anywhere on July 1st. Subscriptions will be coming over the next few months.\n
\n
Ask me anything in the comments and I'll do my best to answer! Also, let me know if this is something that you actually want me to do. Are you willing to subscribe to continue using Narwhal?\n
\n
Thank you everyone!

Usually we are good, sexwise, bit's becoming apparent something is off this year. She thinks the issue is poor health which is probably a component, especially in past sessions but tonight I was getting increasingly frustrated and just didn't speak up. I don't know where to turn to for advice on this. Essentially I was doing all the work, I had two tuga on me and that was it, I was on top first and she was literally just laying there. Hardly making a sound. After that she told me she wanted to be on top so we switched and she was dry and I started to instantly deflate. The culmination of it all just sucks. When I expressed how I felt like she wasn't really reacting and enthusiastic, she lashed out at me and said it's because of my health.\n

I've wondered this occasionally over the years, but never got it working.\n
\n
I tried just putting a dried piece of chicken bone pressed between two plates (mild compressive stress perpendicular to the bone), and using an inverter just like I would use a crystal. It did not work. Maybe I need a really thin segment?\n
\n
I have no practical application in mind. I might make a CPU from it for Halloween I guess?\n

I'm not sure if I would classify it as electronics or necromancy, but I thought it was an interesting question to ask here :)

The thing is not only have I not been on reddit since the protest (barring google searches while not signed in on a private browser, for specific questions unfortunately), but *it’s a lurker account*. I have one post from a year ago asking a question, then a few sporadic comments with the last being in April.\n

I suppose the breakup with Reddit is a mutual thing now lol. Just a very strange scenario.

I have built a classic LM317/337 power supply - and it works, giving proper voltage, etc. however when I start it under load (approx. 300mA per regulator) using a switch, the LM337 goes into some sort of protection (audible buzz), but when I start the circuit under load using on/off switch on my laboratory power supply (I think the input voltage is rising then slower) the LM337 works as normal. I heard that when the LM317 is starting as first, then such effect may occur (but I don’t know anything about this). What would be your first suggestion in solving this problem?"

Just realized that the other day.\n
\n
I had initially intended to feel it out and honor the blackout from 12-14, then figured, *"I'm here now, might as well ride out the month if Reddit isn't responding in any meaningful way to the community's requests"* and now I think I'll just be in the fedi apps for the foreseeable future.\n

It's different here, but it hasn't been a struggle and it gets better and better with time. Feels nice to not support inhumane and user-hostile endless corporate greed.

+title: "[REPOST] Won't Let Me Go To Jury Duty? Enjoy Being Questioned In Court"
+url: null
+body: """
[REPOST]\n
\n
This was back in the '80s, my first job, working as a maintenance man at a local hotel. I'd been working there part-time since I was 16 and when I turned 18, I got a notice to attend jury duty. I picked a week and I let my boss know.\n
\n
The owner of the hotel found out and sees me in the hallway and tells me that I need to do "whatever it takes" to get out of jury duty because he needs me at the hotel that week for a large dog show, and if I'm not at work, I'm fired.\n
\n
When I get to jury duty, day 1, I get selected for a week-long trial, and the judge asks jurors if there's any reason we cannot serve on the jury. They go around... When they get to me, I'm nervous, never been in court before and too scared to lie.\n
\n
*Cue malicious compliance.*\n
\n
I tell the judge that the owner of the business I work at will fire me if I'm not back today and said I needed to do everything I can to get out of jury duty or I'm fired, other than that I'm fine serving. The judge looks p*ssed.\n
\n
The judge has me approach the bench, asks for the name of the owner, location, etc. Then he hands the court officer a paper and says something to the officer. I'm told to return to the jury box. About an hour later (still selecting a jury), the officer returns with the owner, visibly shaken, in handcuffs and walked to the front of the judge's bench.\n
\n
The owner is standing in front of the judge. The judge asks him questions which he apologetically tries to worm out of.\n
\n
Then the judge instructs him that I will be here for jury duty, I will serve as long as I need to, and he should NOT do anything to retaliate against me -- and that the judge is filing charges and will be instructing the clerk to check with me regularly and if, for any reason, I am fired or face any disciplinary action at work - he will hold the owner in contempt, violation of a court order, and a bunch more legal stuff. He will spend time in jail thinking about how important jury duty is.\n
\n
Then the judge makes him apologize to me, in court!\n

I made it onto the jury and I served the week. I reported back to work the following week. I expected some blowback, but I never got fired, none of my shifts were changed and I got paid for my time in jury - I didn't ask why I got paid.\n
\n
The clerk did check back a few times and I was told to call the judge's clerk's direct phone number if anything happened. It was awesome, I was pretty much bullet-proof and worked until I saved enough to go back to school.\n
\n
**TL;DR: When I got my first notice for jury duty, my boss told me to get out of it or I'd be fired. Being the scared 18-year old that I was, when the judge asked if any of us couldn't serve, I told him what my boss had said. The judge had my boss dragged into court and threatened with jail time. I ended up serving on the jury and getting paid for the days I missed at work.**

[REPOST]\n
\n
