+title: "Getting a Server Running - SteamOS - Best Path Forward?"
+url: null
+body: """
For context - I’m working on getting an emulated Everquest server up and running, but hitting dead ends (probably due to my newness to Linux in general) and seeking some guidance from the community on what I’ve tried and best path forward.\n
\n
My ultimate goal is to get it running on SteamOS - I have it fully operational on my actual server machine running Ubuntu, but trying to get it working here so I can just connect locally (i.e on a plane) so I don’t need to connect externally. Here is the situation and obstacles;\n
\n
I’ve been trying for a minute now to get EQEmu setup on the SteamOS side of the house for ease of launching with client, but running into obstacles in several different directionns, and wanted to see if someone had some guidance on best path forwarrd.\n
\n
First Route - VM - Linux Mint - Docker - I have a successful server up and running via Gnome Boxes with a Linux Mint guest OS - then docker and akkstakk running on it.\n
\n
The obstacle - I can’t seem to bridge the connection of the guest OS with host OS (guest can ping host, host cannot ping guest). If I can bridge (no pun intended) this gap, it’ll most likely be the route I go\n
\n
Second Route - Distrobox - Ubuntu When running Distrobox directly on SteamOS - I’m trying to get the linux install running - however there is a multitude of issues with permissions being denied. This is likely due to SteamOS’ immutable system. To bypass it, it is possible to offset this via turning off read only. However, I don’t want to pursue that route, as anything written to the file system gets wiped on update to the OS.\n
\n
Third Route - WINE - Lutris - SteamOS Another route I’ve tried is utilizing WINE with the windows installer. I think this could help bypass some of the restrictions of the system while having it run on that.\n
\n
Obstacle here: Running the .bat file yields the following message - mariadb-10.0.21-winx64.msi: File Not Found Installing MariaDB (Root Password: eqemu) LOADING… PLEASE WAIT… “sh” isn’t a recognized shell. Please open an issue at [git.rootprojects.org/root/pathman/issues?q=sh](https://git.rootprojects.org/root/pathman/issues?q=sh)warning: couldn’t access “C:\Program Files\MariaDB 10.0\bin”: CreateFile C:\Program Files\MariaDB 10.0\bin: Path not found. PATH not changed.\n
\n
I tried manually executing mariadb and perl, but it still hangs up at both. I see that i ntuser, it’s still not finding them.\n
\n
So all that to say, trying to find a way to make this work. I’m the closest with the VM, but can’t figure out the connection there. Distrobox would be a mess of troubleshooting, and WINE I feel could almost work if I could get the PATHs to work (maybe).\n
\n
Any input or guidance is widely appreciated for such a niche request.

+slug: "Getting-a-Server-Running-SteamOS-Best-Path-Forward"

Hi there!\n

I need some help with my framework laptop and fedora. I want to switch to linux more permanently, but fedora does not enter hibernation properly when closing the lid. I dont care 10-20sec of wakeup time when opening it again. (even windows is more efficient?!) The relatively bad performance on battery life is OK for me, I already installed TLP instead of the default power management. But when closing the lid, the battery drains about 80% over night (10h?) which seems to be more than what other people reported.\n

I could not find a guide on this, which i understood (still a massive noob to afraid to mess up my carefully crafted linux partition :D).\n

Hi there!\n
\n
I need some help with my framework laptop and fedora. I want to switch to linux more permanently, but fedora does not enter hibernation properly when closing the lid. I dont care 10-20sec of wakeup time when opening it again. (even windows is more efficient?!) The relatively bad performance on battery life is OK for me, I already installed TLP instead of the default power management. But when closing the lid, the battery drains about 80% over night (10h?) which seems to be more than what other people reported.\n
\n
I could not find a guide on this, which i understood (still a massive noob to afraid to mess up my carefully crafted linux partition :D).\n
\n
If you have any advice I appreciate it! Thanks a lot! :)

\n
Unveiling the Process: [How to Refill a Vuse](https://www.vapepenzone.com/blog/how-to-refill-a-vuse.html) ePod 2\n
\n
Understanding Vuse Models Different Vuse models have distinct designs and functionalities:\n
\n
Vuse eTank Mini features an effortless top-fill system and easy coil replacement. Vuse Alto might pose leakage issues during refills. Vuse ePen Vape pods have a dark tint, making it challenging to monitor e-liquid levels. Vuse ePod 2 features a secure magnetic connection that prevents leaks. Vuse Pro shares similar features with the Vuse ePod 2 but in a lighter build.\n
\n
Refillable vs. Non-Refillable Pods All Vuse pods, except Vuse Go, can be refilled with e-liquids from official sources, but it’s advised to avoid using third-party liquids to maintain the pod’s efficiency and avoid potential issues.\n
\n
Steps to Refill a Vuse: Vuse ePod 2 as an Example\n
\n
Selecting the Right E-Liquid Choose e-liquids based on viscosity, nicotine strength, and flavor to suit your device and preferences for an optimal vaping experience. Opting for Vuse’s official pod replacements ensures compatibility and quality.\n
\n
Essential Tools for Refilling Prepare syringes, funnels, and other necessary tools while ensuring cleanliness throughout the process to maintain e-liquid purity and vapor quality.\n
\n
Troubleshooting Common Issues Leaking Pods: Refill slowly, watch for bubbles, and acquire replacements from authorized sources to prevent leaks. Burnt or Unpleasant Taste: Control refill speed and allow a few minutes after refilling to prevent dry hits caused by improper wicking. Safety Tips for Refilling Maintaining Cleanliness: Protects health and ensures pure vapor production. Safe Storage of E-Liquids: Keep them away from children and pets to avoid accidental ingestion. Avoiding High-Density E-Liquids: Improper use can lead to throat irritation and potential health issues. Final Thoughts: A Vuse Refilling Recommendation\n
\n
Based on experience, opting for official pod replacements guarantees compatibility and a hassle-free experience. It minimizes waste, keeps your vaping process smooth, and is environmentally conscious.\n

\n
By adhering to our guide on how to refill a Vuse Vape, you’re well-equipped to enjoy an enhanced vaping adventure.

I just found the [gnome-translate-indicator](https://github.com/sevenuz/gnome-translate-indicator) which is great! I click on the button in the top panel and then I can lookup any word. It’s only one way but that’s not a big problem for me as I rarely translate to English, mostly from.\n

edit: the extension uses [translate-shell](https://github.com/soimort/translate-shell) which uses google, bing, but also apertium. So far I have not found a way to switch settings. I guess you have to point to a translate-shell instance which has to be configured.\n

I was wondering if there is an improved workflow for this. We’ve got bangs in the browser and is there a way to include this into the general GNOME search? maybe with a bang?\n

Additionaly, there is [Light Dict](https://github.com/tuberry/light-dict) which looks like a great app but doesn’t work on my machine out of the box (it fails to execute a trans process). Before trying to find the problem, I’d like to know if someone is using it.\n

I just found the [gnome-translate-indicator](https://github.com/sevenuz/gnome-translate-indicator) which is great! I click on the button in the top panel and then I can lookup any word. It’s only one way but that’s not a big problem for me as I rarely translate to English, mostly from.\n
\n
edit: the extension uses [translate-shell](https://github.com/soimort/translate-shell) which uses google, bing, but also apertium. So far I have not found a way to switch settings. I guess you have to point to a translate-shell instance which has to be configured.\n
\n
I was wondering if there is an improved workflow for this. We’ve got bangs in the browser and is there a way to include this into the general GNOME search? maybe with a bang?\n
\n
Additionaly, there is [Light Dict](https://github.com/tuberry/light-dict) which looks like a great app but doesn’t work on my machine out of the box (it fails to execute a trans process). Before trying to find the problem, I’d like to know if someone is using it.\n
\n
edit2: I can’t find any attribution to any external dictionary. Use it at your own risk.\n
\n
edit3: There is also [Dialect](https://github.com/dialect-app/dialect) with which you can translate via lingva or libretranslate. It looks like a nice gui app.\n
\n
So, is there a perfect workflow for this? I’d lvoe to hear your experience with translation and dictionary lookups on GNOME / linux

I really want to get it working. I really want to get SkyrimVR as well with some good mods. Half Life Alyx is too scary for me :(. I hate having to boot up Win10 to play VR. Knowing there’s a bajillion daemons running around and sucking up my data, giving it to Microsoft only to regurgitate it to force feed me ads, makes me sick.\n
\n
Anyway, my question is… Am I insane? Has anyone actually managed to get PCVR working on linux or is it a completely unfeasible project that I should drop now before I wind up with PTSD?\n
\n
Thank you in advance!
