I have a story that kinda fits! Never shared this before, but I'm sure many people have experienced something similar.\n
\n
Anyway, this was long ago in kindergarten. We had one teacher who, for some strange reason, hated it when kids went to the toilet. She'd track who went to the toilet and ask us kindergardeners things like "didn't you just go when I came in" or "why do you always need to go when I'm teaching".\n
\n
Oh and this is necessary context for later - our classrooms had louvered, transparent windows along the corridor, and the windows were usually kept open, so you could look in easily from the corridor.\n
\n
Some of us figured out that it was easier to hold your crotch and make a pained expression every time we needed to go. We'd just say "I really need to go" and hop around and she'd relent. But after a few too many people did that she got angry and declared that nobody could go to the bathroom twice in her class and started writing down the names of kids who went to the bathroom. If your name was on the board you couldn't leave the classroom again.\n
\n
So one day, one of my brilliant classmates asked to go to the toilet, then brought his workbook and pencil out with him. When he came back, he stood outside the classroom listening to the teacher.\n
\n
Our teacher asked him to come in. He said "but if I come in, I can't go to the toilet later."\n
\n
Of course the teacher made him come in and changed the rules after that. But I'd like to think this kid became a lawyer.

Ok, this is not going to be a well formulated question, because the concerns behind it are nebulous in my own head.\n
\n
Some assumptions I have, that clearly inform the question that follows: I believe commercial, state, and others have sophisticated methods of influencing what I see on social media and thus, in part, what I think. I also believe that someone more willing to believe in the types of conspiratorial beliefs I’ve just expressed are more likely to be manipulated by information they’re exposed to. And, yes, I fully appreciate the irony of those beliefs.\n
\n
My child is adult enough that belief patterns I encourage are very unlikely to become deep patterns. That is, I’d have to work to indoctinate my son, and he’d actively resist if my indoctrination was outside of societal norms.\n
\n
He didn’t grow up exposed to the social media I suspect children do now.\n
\n
How does a parent inoculate a child to the influence of social media without also creating a mindset willing to believe in a nebulous “them” that controls things—a mindset, I believe, that makes a person more likely to be controlled?

+url: null
+body: """
I have a google pixel, and I know I could install grapheneOS on it. But I’m very, very hesitant, since I depend so much on my phone.\n
\n
This isn’t like distro hopping, where I feel more comfortable hot swapping ssds, or making partitions, or using my desktop while I tinker with my laptop. My phone has a SIM and the service I depend on can’t be emulated off this phone.\n
\n
So what do you recommend I do? Should I move my SIM (my phone service, really) to a new phone while I tinker with this one? Can I just blow up the current OS and wing it? Or maybe theres another option that would allow me to bail back to stock android in case something goes wrong. What do you think?\n
\n
EDIT: how I use my phone: about everything I use is from fdroid, with the occassional app from aurora. I do use my banking app to cash checks, but I don’t use whatsapp, google pay, which I know arent compatible. So as far as app compatibility I dont think it’ll be a problem, Im mostly worried about my phone number not working. I dont know how SIMs work like I should, I just know Ive had the strangest issues in the past with it, so Im hesitant. Thanks for the replies so far.

I have a google pixel, and I know I could install grapheneOS on it. But I’m very, very hesitant, since I depend so much on my phone.\n

EDIT: how I use my phone: about everything I use is from fdroid, with the occassional app from aurora. Hi guys, Remmina won't connect to a windows 10 PC via RDP anymore. It worked until I upgraded to Fedora 39 (I think, maybe its something different though). \n
I cannot see anything in the logs indicating what the error might be. I tried messing with the settings, particularly the TLS and Gateway ransport type settings, but that didn't change anything. It is not timing out eigher, the disconnect is nearly instant.\n

+title: "Follow-up to installing Arch"
+url: null
+body: """
So, I am making the switch to using Arch full time instead of Windows.\n
\n
Here is the rundown:\n
\n
I have windows installed on one NVME and installed Arch on another NVME. After installing Arch on the one drive, and rebooting Arch hung at loading initial ramdisk. It never completed, I force shutdown my PC.\n
\n
I went back into bios, and there wasn’t an entry for my Arch drive whatsoever.\n
\n
In fact, before this happened I had all bootable drives go missing from within my bios.\n
\n
So, after the reboot, I left the boot options default, and it did in fact boot to windows.\n
\n
---\n
\n
**Other potentially important details:**\n
\n
I used archinstall rather than walking through manually.\n
\n
UEFI\n
\n
Secureboot off\n
\n
GRUB bootloader\n
\n
Unified Kernel Images on\n
\n
Luks encrypted BTRFS partitions\n
\n
Audio Pipewire\n
\n
Kernels: Linux and Linux-Zen\n
\n
Network Manager\n
\n
**Hardware:**\n
\n
CPU: i7-12700KF\n
\n
Motherboard: TUF GAMING Z690-PLUS WIFI D4\n
\n
GPU: EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3\n
\n
RAM: Corsair VENGEANCE® RGB PRO 16GB (x4)\n
\n
PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 GT 1000W\n
\n
Drives: 1tb WD Black SN750 (Drive intended for Arch to be installed on)\n
\n
1tb Samsung 980 Pro (Drive windows is installed on)\n
\n
2tb Samsung 980 Pro (separate data drive)\n
\n
---\n
\n
Should I remove my windows drive while installing Arch on another drive?\n
\n
Rather, what would be the best approach to this?\n
\n
Could anyone provide any help regarding this?\n
\n
---\n
\n

So, I am making the switch to using Arch full time instead of Windows.\n
\n
Here is the rundown:\n
\n
I have windows installed on one NVME and installed Arch on another NVME. After installing Arch on the one drive, and rebooting Arch hung at loading initial ramdisk. It never completed, I force shutdown my PC.\n
\n
I went back into bios, and there wasn’t an entry for my Arch drive whatsoever.\n
\n
In fact, before this happened I had all bootable drives go missing from within my bios.\n
\n
So, after the reboot, I left the boot options default, and it did in fact boot to windows.\n
\n
---\n
\n
**Other potentially important details:**\n
\n
I used archinstall rather than walking through manually.\n
\n
UEFI\n
\n
Secureboot off\n
\n
GRUB bootloader\n
\n
Unified Kernel Images on\n
\n
Luks encrypted BTRFS partitions\n
\n
Audio Pipewire\n
\n
Kernels: Linux and Linux-Zen\n
\n
Network Manager\n
\n
**Hardware:**\n
\n
CPU: i7-12700KF\n
\n
Motherboard: TUF GAMING Z690-PLUS WIFI D4\n
\n
GPU: EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3\n
\n
RAM: Corsair VENGEANCE® RGB PRO 16GB (x4)\n
\n
PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 GT 1000W\n
\n
Drives: 1tb WD Black SN750 (Drive intended for Arch to be installed on)\n
\n
1tb Samsung 980 Pro (Drive windows is installed on)\n
\n
2tb Samsung 980 Pro (separate data drive)\n
\n
---\n
\n
Should I remove my windows drive while installing Arch on another drive?\n
\n
Rather, what would be the best approach to this?\n
\n
Could anyone provide any help regarding this?\n

It’s the Knife of the Undermountain King, if that is relevant. I’m not a druid, so I don’t think it has anything to do with wild shape. I have had Jahiera in my party a few times. I did get disarmed once about 20 hours ago, so it might be related to that. Anyways, I cannot unequip, disarm, throw, or drop that knife. I’ve tried exiting the game and rebooting the PS5 and nothing works. I’m a level 2 pally, level 10 bard, if that matters. Does anyone have any ideas?\n

It’s the Knife of the Undermountain King, if that is relevant. I’m not a druid, so I don’t think it has anything to do with wild shape. I have had Jahiera in my party a few times.
