Nope. Been using the same installation of Windows 10 for years, and everything just works.\n
\n
Even swapped the SSD from one laptop into another one. Added a UEFI boot entry, and it came right up.\n

I think the only problem I ever had was audio or Wi-Fi occasionally failing to work after resume. But that resolved itself after one of the major updates.\n
\n
The only annoyance I've run into is the "Let's finish setting up your device" screen after feature updates. But you can [disable that](https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/windows-10/why-am-i-getting-this-quot-let-s-finish-setting-up-your-device/m-p/1751604) fairly easily.\n
\n
I mainly use it as a glorified Chromebook though. Browser, Windows Terminal + WSL, maybe the occasional Inkscape or Lightroom. All the "interesting" stuff happens in Linux VMs atop ESXi running on an old desktop.\n
\n
But for everyday use, it's nice to have something that "just works" when I pick it up.\n
\n
I might check out Linux again in a few years though. From what I've read, PipeWire seems to be killing it in terms of progress on the audio side. So once the Wayland ecosystem matures, it should be fairly easy to get back that "just works" status with Linux.\n
\n
In terms of performance, the main issue Windows really has is disk I/O. But a modern SSD fixes that easily. I am using a second-hand, [nine-year-old Dell Latitude laptop](https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/product-support/servicetag/0-RjVHc1dvVEZIeGFHVHdRa2xDSjFqZz090/events), and it does everything I need it to do. A loosely moderated place to ask open-ended questions\n
\n
**[Search asklemmy](https://lemmy.ml/search?q=&type=Posts&listingType=All&communityId=8&page=1&sort=TopAll) 🔍**\n
\n
If your post meets the following criteria, it’s welcome here!\n
\n
1. Open-ended\n
2. Not offensive: at this point, we do not have the bandwidth to moderate overtly political discussions\n
3. **Not regarding using or support for Lemmy**: [context](https://lemmy.ml/post/1223478), find help in the list of support alternatives below\n
4. Not ad nauseam inducing: please make sure it is a question that would be new to most members\n
5. [An actual topic of discussion](https://lemmy.ml/post/1239589)\n
