Most of my collection is just the movie rips of just the video that play fine in Plex or Jellyfin. I’ve got a couple of full disc rips though that have the menus and features and all just like you would if you put the disc in. I can open these in VLC on my computer by choosing the folder.\n

My living room setup is an Apple TV as the primary streaming device but I also have an Nvidia Shield pro and Google TV Chromecast.\n

Is there any way to stream these over the network into some kind of app on any of these devices?\n

After some looking around Kodi *might* be able to do what I want. Going to investigate further.\n

The Kodi repo with the required addon (HEVC kodi bluray addon) seems to be down, maybe permanently :/ Still looking for a solution

Hi, I’m on Windows 10 at home and Windows 11 at work. I’m going to migrate to Linux for my next PC (might eventually do it on this one, though I’ve currently done so many tweaks that I intend to keep this for gaming for now). Our two laptops and mini-PC already run Linux Mint, but I digress… (I just don’t want anyone to think I’m totally unaware of the problems with Windows and Microsoft.)\n
\n
My uses for a webcam are:\n
\n
- Streaming with friends (sharing games and video feed, playing Jackbox games, chatting, etc.)\n
- Playing Magic the Gathering via Spelltable (so it needs to be able to be positioned facing my playmat and good enough quality to detect the cards)\n
- Video call with family and friends\n
- Occasional use for presenting professional webinars (during occasions when I have to work from home)\n
- Occasionally pre-recording work-related content that will be publicly viewable\n
- Use with OBS virtual camera\n
\n
At work, I use a Logitech camera that my employer provided me with OBS software. It’s an older model, but I’m not sure of model number or anything off the top of my head. It’s not the best, and I’d like something a bit better at home.\n
\n
At home, I was using a similar Logitech camera, but a year ago I decided to upgrade and purchased the Razer Kiyo Pro. *What a mistake!* Every time this camera gets plugged in, it prompts me to install Razer Synapse. It even puts the installer directly on my hard drive without my permission!\n
\n
I’ve saved up a bit, and I’d like to try again with a different camera, one that doesn’t push its proprietary software on me. I was considering Logitech, but iirc Logi’s newer models *also do the same thing.* Or is this wrong?\n
\n
**Either way, I’d be so grateful if someone could recommend a reasonably high quality budget camera in the ~$100 range. I *could* go up to maybe $125, but after that it would start to really hurt.**\n
\n
I’ve done a lot of searching myself, but it turns out it’s pretty hard to find a camera that doesn’t either require or constantly push its proprietary software, and apparently some people [checks notes] *like the proprietary software being shoved at them???*\n
\n
Anyway, I’d be so thankful if you could help. This community helped me so much before when I needed a modem and router to escape the clutches of my IP, so I thought maybe someone would have some advice.

+title: "Recommendation for webcam that doesn't push its software?"
+url: null
+body: """

I saw some weird pro-reddit content on other reddit-themed communities and then !snoocalypse@lemmy.ml went into archive mode, so I decided to make this to keep it clean from any reddit shills lurking in the dark. I’ll start by posting some historical content.\n
\n
By the way, anyone know what might be the most anti-reddit lemmy instance? I’d hate to find out that shitjustworks likes reddit and doesn’t want a “watch reddit die” community on their instance.

By now most of you know that I’m by far the most reasonable person on lemmy. I’m basically real life Judiciary Pag. Well, maybe not the Very Relaxed part… But I’m very Learned and extremely Impartial.\n
\n
So here’s the deal: if you need to resolve some conflict, if you need someone to decide who’s the asshole or simply can’t decide who’s right and who’s wrong in a silly comment fight - just ask. I will give you my totally unbiased, 100% impartial opinion and you will be able to move on with your life.\n

I’m curious what people’s thoughts are about Matter. This is the first I’m hearing of it.\n
\n
I’ve been trying to find a way to replace my old Chromecast Ultra (because Google), but I really like having that little *cast* button show up in apps, even on the phones of guests. But from what I can tell, Google killed this functionality on open alternatives (ex. Raspicast) with a lockdown to the Chromecast spec.\n
\n
I’m hopeful that Matter could be a way to have my devices cast streams to each other in a standardized way that wouldn’t require me to rely on Google/Apple/Amazon/etc. Maybe even Newpipe could get in on the action?\n
\n
I don’t know how it will work, or if this “Connected Standards Alliance” (which is apparently used to be the ZigBee Alliance, also news to me) will still have to greenlight specific devices despite it being “open”, which would rule out Newpipe. I would assume the official YouTube apps will be particularly resistant to supporting Matter.\n
\n
Anyone have any experience here? Has anyone else successfully replaced their media device with something open that also works with the casting button in apps?

Quit drinking and smoking cold turkey 9 days ago and my BP is about 140s over 80s (was observed to be even higher about 72 hours in).\n
\n
For reference, I’ve always had a low sodium, plant-based diet and never really had elevated blood pressure before I quit.\n
\n
Just curious if this will ever go down on its own, my plan is to wait a couple weeks and see, but curious.\n
\n
UPDATE: yes, well aware of stopping abruptly. I was more like a 2-5 beer/day person and had frequently stopped for a day or two without issue so wasn’t terribly worried, but I did check BP to be sure nothing wrong undetected was going on.\n
\n
I didn’t have any symptoms outside of elevated BP and after checking frequently the last couple days I’m about mid 120s to 130 over 70s consistently.\n
\n
So, in my own personal experience (and we are all different) it does seem that quitting both abruptly caused a temporary elevation in BP for several days.\n
\n
I have been hydrating regularly (2 liters minimum of water daily, plus I eat a lot of plants with high water content anyway), yoga, cardio, Peleton. Sleeping better.\n
\n
I will continue to monitor and contact my Dr if needed. I believe my annual checkup is soon anyway.\n
\n
Thanks for all the responses.

Issue Description: I have been having this issue with my raspberry pi running dietPi where it seems to lock up and I cannot SSH / access any of the services on it. I am not really sure where to start to diagnose this issue. Any help would be appreciated!\n

I’ve just about got this Docker thing licked. After hundreds of hours, I finally get it, and my dusty millenial ass has joined the 21st century.\n
\n
-but we have issues\n
\n
==============================xxxx==============================\n
\n
**The environment:**\n
\n
I have multiple containers running on my local network, including photoprism, Kavita, and Filebrowser. I also installed Heimdall as a startpage. On the local network everything works great.\n
\n
The entire goal of this project is to have these services accessible from outside the house, from my mobile devices but also with the ability to share links and files with friends.\n
\n
==============================xxxx==============================\n
\n
**The problem:**\n
\n
Enter Tailscale. I tried port forwarding, having a domain, all that jazz, but it ended up being way too complicated. I don’t want just anyone to access my shit, I only want a handful to be able to use services of my choosing in accordance with the user permissions I set up for them. Tailscale was the first thing I tried that worked.\n
\n
I added my docker instance to tailscale, and when you access the machine, you are correctly taken to my Heimdal start page. Unfortunately, when you click on the icons for my docker services, the browser gives you an “unable to connect” error.\n
\n
Under my Tailscale admin panel, the services are listed along with their port and IP information. Heimdall (443) and Portainer(8000) are listed as https and http under “type”, as expected. The remaining services are listed as “other.” (the portainer link doesn’t work either)\n
\n
- Has anyone else dealt with this?\n
- If this has to do with ports, is there an easy way to configure ports without having to re-run the images and make new containers?

I’ve just about got this Docker thing licked. After hundreds of hours, I finally get it, and my dusty millenial ass has joined the 21st century.\n
\n
-but we have issues\n
\n
==============================xxxx==============================\n
\n
==============================xxxx==============================\n
