> The [Privacy Checkup](https://privacy-checkup.info/en) is an interactive questionnaire that uses everyday examples to show what consequences your online behavior has in regard to privacy and how to protect your data.\n
\n
> How are results calculated? The calculation is based on two categories: privacy and security. Each answer therefore has two values. For example, if an answer is particularly relevant for privacy but less so for security, it will have three points for privacy and one for security. If an answer is unfavorable from both a privacy and a security perspective, it will have zero points for both. The points are then added up, weighted, and combined to create a single percentage.\n

Data Privacy Week, which we started off by publishing an [open letter on the topic of the proposed EU chat control](https://threema.ch/en/blog/posts/open-letter-csa-regulation), will be rounded off on January 28, 2024, with the Data Privacy Day. This annual event was initiated by the European Council to raise awareness for online privacy.\n

\n
> On completing the Privacy Checkup, your Checkup Report will explain a list of steps you can take to protect your privacy even better, as well as [software recommendations](https://privacy-checkup.info/en/recommendations) that fulfill strict requirements.\n
\n
- The Privacy Checkup was developed by the [Privacy Training](https://privacy-training.info/en) project to celebrate Data Privacy Week and is independently supported by Threema.

I’m unable to pair my Wacom tablet to my notebook via BT. I think I know the root cause of the issue which is the version of Bluez being 5.64 and the behavior of the issue is the same as I had on Fedora on my main PC few months back when I’ve tried to pair PS5 Dual Sense controller.\n
\n
I was able to fix the issue on Fedora by downgrading the Bluez version with “sudo dnf downgrade bluez” but on Pop!_OS this does not work and neither I was able to upgrade to one of the newer versions 5.65 or 5.66 (it says I need to compile these?).\n
\n
I’m new with Linux so I’m not sure how I would go about compiling something to make it work. The 5.65 version seems to have bugfixes for my issue but I’m perfectly fine with downgrading to anything older as long as it works if it’s simpler to do.\n
\n
To describe the issue:\n
\n
When I put tablet into a pairing mode it will appear in the Pop!_OS system and I can select it to pair. It will attempt to pair but then fails.\n
\n
I’ve tried to force it to pair with “bluetoothctl trust/pair/connect MacID” commands and it managed to say “connected” but the tablet was still not responding and the LED was blinking as if it was still in pairing mode. I’ve also tried the Blueman GTK BT manager with no luck.\n
\n
Note: It works perfectly well via USB connection. It also connects instantly to my main Windows PC via BT so the tablet is not at fault.\n
\n
EDIT;\n
\n
FIGURED IT OUT\n
\n
by default laptop was non-discoverable and there is no system setting on either Pop!_OS or Fedora to make it discoverable. Had to use Blueman to make it so. I’ve only noticed that when doing “sudo systemctl bluetooth” for XYth time and there was “Disoverable: No” next to one of the MacIDs. After figuring out the ID belongs to my laptop I just had to figure out how to make it discoverable and turns out Blueman can do it.

I’ve been running HA for a while, and it’s been working well; I haven’t had to change much in a few months. That being said, it’s fun to tinker with it, and I’m curious to hear what kind of automations the rest of the community is using. What automations are you most proud of? What are your favorite? What kind of interesting automations have you written?\n
\n
My personal favorite is an automation that displays the current “apparent” temperature on a Hue bulb. It takes an average of the temperature, humidity, and luminance around my property and uses the average to compute an “apparent” (feels like) temperature. Then it applies a cosine function to the apparent temperature (to approximate how people feel temperature change), uses the resulting value to calculate a level between blue and red in CIELAB (a perceptually uniform color space), converts the results to RGB, and sets the color value of the hue bulb. The result is a bulb that changes color so that the change in color (as perceived by the eye) mirrors how the temperature “feels” outside. Ultimately what that means is that we can look at a small lamp with the hue bulb and say “It feels cold outside; we should put on a coat.” It’s probably overkill, but it was a fun programming exercise. We’ve started saying things like “It’s really blue today, I don’t feel like going out.”\n
\n
I’d really enjoy reading what kind of interesting automations everyone else has written.

Two problems: 2 of the servers will be on Wifi and one is a Synology NAS. I can’t do any wiring but I can put together a WiFi 6E network for the servers only, That means buying 4 Wifi 6E devices in a mix of types. As for Synology, it’s container manager is a little odd so I expect to run a Linux VM and use that as my cluster node. That may mean buying more RAM as I haven’t upgraded it. Hardware ranges from a 6 core CPU on the NAS (with a few important docker containers), 8 core on my main SFF server (which also runs my OpnSense VM inside Proxmox), 16 core Ryzen on my old big server, and a 10 year old NUC for fun. So the question is what do I use to orchestrate all the services I have. My Vaulwarden runs reliability but only on one system. I want better reliability for Pihole that automatically syncs settings. The NAS’ docker implementation doesn’t support gravity sync. Since everything I do runs in docker besides storage it seems Proxmox clusters is not the best option. That puts me between K8s and Docker Swarm. I’d like something that is simple to administer but resilien when hardware fails."

+title: "Proxmox HA, Docker Swarm, Kubrenetes, or what?"
+url: null
+body: "I’ve gotten to the point where I have more than a few servers in my homelab and am looking for a way to increase reliability in case of an update.

I’m not sure this is allowed here. Apologies and please delete if it is not.\n
\n
I was looking for decent, inexpensive hardware for a semi-dedicated Home Assistant supervised server and found something that is working better than expected.\n
\n
What I wanted:\n
\n
- Debian 12 supported hardware.\n
- Fast processor.\n
- SSD.\n
- 8GB ram.\n
- Integrated battery - no UPS needed.\n
- Built in display and keyboard if possible to make management easier so a laptop is fine.\n
- Advanced BIOS options.\n
\n
I took a risk on a Dell 3140 small laptop from Woot. I just finished moving my HA installation to it and am pleased enough to post here. It’s $170 (refurbished) right now and the one I received looks brand new. While this is just an OK laptop, for a HA server it’s terrific.\n
\n
Positives:\n
\n
- Debian 12 supports the hardware without any additional drivers. Everything just works after install.\n
- The N200 processor is more than 2x faster than a Raspberry Pi 5’s CPU.\n
- Built in BIOS battery management. A charge limit can be set to preserve the battery since it will be plugged in all the time. 6+ hours indicated battery life with a limited 75% charge.\n
- Low power usage. Powertop says it’s drawing about 6 watts with several USB devices plugged in.\n
- BIOS Option to automatically power on upon power restoration.\n
- 128GB SSD is more than big enough to support Debian 12, HA plus some additional apps. My installation uses less than 25GB leaving plenty to spare for Timeshift and some file sharing. Replacement 2230 NVMe SSDs are cheap.\n
- Built like a tank.\n
\n
Negatives:\n
\n
- Built like a tank. Chunky for a small laptop.\n
- No integrated Ethernet port.\n
- Mediocre screen.\n
\n
This is commercial grade product that will hopefully last a long time and might be worth considering if you’re looking for Home Assistant hardware.\n
