Hi there!\n
\n
I need some help with my framework laptop and fedora. I want to switch to linux more permanently, but fedora does not enter hibernation properly when closing the lid. I dont care 10-20sec of wakeup time when opening it again. (even windows is more efficient?!) The relatively bad performance on battery life is OK for me, I already installed TLP instead of the default power management. But when closing the lid, the battery drains about 80% over night (10h?) which seems to be more than what other people reported.\n
\n
I could not find a guide on this, which i understood (still a massive noob to afraid to mess up my carefully crafted linux partition :D).\n
\n
If you have any advice I appreciate it! Thanks a lot! :)

Hi there!\n

If you have any advice I appreciate it! Thanks a lot! :)

Long story short, I have a desktop with Fedora, lovely, fast, sleek and surprisingly reliable for a near rolling distro (it failed me only once back around Fedora 34 or something where it nuked Grub). Tried to install on a 2012 i7 MacBook Air… what a slog!!! Surprisingly Ubuntu runs very smooth on it. I have been bothering all my friends for years about moving to Fedora (back then it was because I hated Unity) but now… I mean, I know that we are suppose to hate it for Snaps and what not but… Christ, it does run well! In fairness all my VMs are running DietPi (a slimmed version of Ubuntu) and coming back to the APT world feels like coming back home.\n
\n
On the other end forcing myself to be on Fedora allows me to stay on the DNF world that is compatible with Amazon Linux etc (which I use for work), it has updated packages, it is nice and clean…. Argh, don’t know how to decide!\n
\n
Thoughts?\n
\n
I am not in the mood for Debian. I like the Mint approach but I am not a fan of slow rolling releases and also would like to keep myself as close as upstream as possible, the Debian version is the only one that seems reliable enough but, again, it is Debian, the packages are “old”. Pop Os and similar are two hops away from upstream and so I’d rather not.\n
\n
Is Snap really **that** bad?\n
\n
Edit: thank you all for sharing your experience !

Is Snap really **that** bad?\n

+url: "https://kbin.social/m/linux@lemmy.ml/t/705338"
+body: """
Hi, this is a long lasting problem that I didn't really manage to fix when I started using linux (Mint, Cinnamon). But now that I've been using it regularly for half a year and I have more experience in fiddling around, I'm trying to get it resolved.\n
\n
Whenever I suspend the laptop (or close the lid, which does it automatically) the Wifi and sometimes an external monitor don't work anymore, I don't know what the problem is. The wifi is fixed by powering on and off again. To fix the monitor sometimes even powering off and on again didn't fix it, I usually waited for the next day and it worked again.\n
\n
I've no idea of how to fix this (Linux Mint forums didn't help at the time)\n
\n
Laptop is an MSI GS65-Stealth-Thin-8RF running Linux Mint, with Cinnamon Desktop\n

+url: "https://kbin.social/m/linux@lemmy.ml/t/705338"
