We are digital librarians. I’ve just received this E-Mail from Backblaze, announcing a slight increase in storage cost.\n
\n
In exchange, they offer a free download budget of three times the stored capacity.\n
\n
---\n
\n
**Storage Price Increase:** Effective October 3, 2023, we are increasing the monthly pay-as-you-go storage rate from $5/TB to $6/TB. The price of B2 Reserve will not change.\n
\n
**Free Egress:** Also effective October 3, we’re making egress free (i.e. free download of data) for all B2 Cloud Storage customers—both pay-as-you-go and B2 Reserve—up to three times the amount of data you store with us, with any additional egress priced at just $0.01/GB. Because supporting an open cloud environment is central to our mission, expanding free egress to all customers so they can move data when and where they prefer is a key next\n
\n
**Product Upgrades:** From Object Lock for ransomware protection, to Cloud Replication for redundancy, to more data centers to support data location needs, Backblaze has consistently improved B2 Cloud Storage. Stay tuned for more this fall, when we’ll announce upload performance upgrades, expanded integrations, and more partnerships.

Hey everyone,\n

I’m reaching out because I could use some help or guidance here. So, I kinda ended up being the go-to person for collecting and storing data in a project I’m involved in with my team. We’ve got a bunch of data, like tens of thousands of files, and we’re using nextcloud to make it accessible to our users. The thing is, we’re facing a bit of a challenge with the search function on nextcloud when accessed through a public link. Being that there isn’t a search function. While we really appreciate the features it offers from an administrative standpoint, it’s not working that well for our users.\n

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions or resources that could point us in the right direction for this project? It would be super awesome if it’s something open-source and privacy retaining. 😄\n

I have a Thinkpad mini that needs to expand it’s disagree storage and have a couple of Red 4Tb with basically no use.\n
\n
I wanted to plug one of them over USB, but it seems that docker just doesn’t like to have volumes on external drives. AFAIK docker starts before the drive is fully mounted, preventing it from doing so. I couldn’t find any reliable way to work around this (but I’m open to suggestions!).\n
\n
I was wondering if it makes sense too just get an extension SATA cable, if they even exist, and have the drive outside the case. One of the worries I have is if it will have enough power (being meant for 2.5 drives originally).\n
\n
The alternative would be to either change the server itself or to buy a larger 2.5 instead to keep up for a while.

I have a Thinkpad mini that needs to expand it’s disagree storage and have a couple of Red 4Tb with basically no use.\n

The alternative would be to either change the server itself or to buy a larger 2.5 instead to keep up for a while.

We are digital librarians. Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data – legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g. government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they’re sure it’s done right. Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time). Along the way we have sought out like-minded individuals to exchange strategies, war stories, and cautionary tales of failures.\n

The more that content on the web is “locked down” with more stringent API requests and identity verification, e.g. Twitter, the more I wonder if I should be archiving every single HTTP request my browser makes. Or, rather, I wonder if in the future there will be an Archive Team style decentralized network of hoarders who, as they naturally browse the web, establish and maintain an archive collectively, creating a “shadow” database of content. This shadow archive is owned entirely by the collective and thus requests to it are not subject to the limitations set by the source service.\n
\n
The main point is that the hoarding is not distinguishable from regular browsing from the perspective of the source website, so the hoarding system can’t be shut down without also giving up access to regular users.\n
\n
Verification that the content actually came from the real service could probably be done using the HTTPS packets themselves, and some sort of reputation system could prevent the source websites themselves from trying to poison the collective with spam.\n
\n
Clearly, not all of the collected data should be shared, and without differential privacy techniques and fingerprint resistance the participating accounts can be connected to the content they share.\n
\n
Has anything like this been attempted before? I’ve never participated in Archive Team, but from what I read it seems similar.

On the Internet Archive you can get a few different alpha versions of the game Outer Wilds, and a demo version too. But there’s an older version that I can’t seem to find anywhere.\n
\n
I’m pretty sure it’s the one in this video: [www.youtube.com/watch?v=8I0Y_6EhXos](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8I0Y_6EhXos)\n
\n
It used to be downloadable in this URL from Alex Beachum’s website, but that domain has been parked for while: `http: // alexbeachum.com / outerwilds / OuterWilds_IndieCadeBuild.zip`. (don’t follow this URL, it might not be safe, I added some spaces so people don’t follow accidentally). This build was originally shared from Alex Beachum’s website: [web.archive.org/web/20130630070827/http://…/258](https://web.archive.org/web/20130630070827/http://alexbeachum.com:80/archives/258)\n
\n
This build dates back to December 2012. It was built specifically for IndieCade, where Outer Wilds was picked as a “Digital Select”: [web.archive.org/web/…/digital_selects/](https://web.archive.org/web/20150315041855/http://www.indiecade.com/2013/digital_selects/)\n
\n
Does anyone happen to have archived this?
