And then Survivor happened, cheap to produce “Reality” show garbage became the norm, and 1979 tv felt like Shakespeare by comparison.

Then we will fall to fascism in the near future. Maybe not this election, but soon.

You can’t get people en masse to support you on the message of “Your tangible situation will continue to be horrible, but letting those guys win will cause unimaginably worse horror” cycle after cycle and continue to get them to care, and it is understandable to for them to eventually wash their hands of it, because at the end of the day, voting associates you with this system, and it feels dirty to participate because it makes it feel like you bear responsibility for what a Faustian bargain it is every cycle.

I will keep showing up with a funeral dirge in my heart to vote for the lesser evil and attempt to hold back the bloodthirsty fascist horde yet again without hope for things actually improving, but I’m not the norm. Most sane people will eventually just walk away from it sooner or later because the reality is too unpalatable.

The results speak for themselves. The majority of their generation’s attitudes about the results indicate satisfaction with the results.

He would love to muse about these times as he did so well, but he abandoned hope for humanity getting it’s head out of its ass decades before he died. Can’t say as I blame him, he was right about our nature. A person is great. People clumping up in groups in groups end in blood, cruelty, and tears on a long enough timeline.

I would take solace in those musings as well though.

No reason to take an unfair game seriously.

If you want to play really hard against the entrenched capitalists in a rousing game of “I win,” knock yourself out, but be aware, they always get to go first.

Literally what the board game Monopoly tried to teach everyone. No one else is having fun once someone gets their claws into the board.

The least losing move in this already owned board is to engage with the game as little as possible and make your own fun as far away from that shitshow con-game encouraging you to play as possible.

On a related side note, Violent Night with David Harbour as Santa is a new holiday classic to me.

I don’t know. I’d take explaining a complex concept to a 6 year old over a 70 year old any day. A 70 year old will probably rely on faded memories that have over time become wholly corrupted from disuse, yet still leaned upon, adding an extra layer of having to correct what they “know.” They may give you a head start on a few sub-concepts/aspects of the concept, but in my experience working with A LOT of seniors in a former Master’s level helping profession, you’re far more likely to make faster progress with a 6 year old, and far more often then not for an elderly person, you’ll hit an insurmountable road block of understanding if it’s a concept they were never familiar with.

With effort, patience and available time, you could teach an 6 year old of average intelligence significant aspects of calculus reliably. I would wager the average 70 year old whose career was never math centric, with only faded memories of minimally complex algebra, would take multiple times as long to do the same, if at all. The elasticity for new complex anything is extremely limited, outliers who have maintained some flexibility through uncommon determination and regular, vigorous mental exercise notwithstanding.

Which is why the absurdity of letting someone accumulate a billion dollar plus discrepancy is so glaring.

There won’t be because the game is already rigged, over, captured, and hoplesss, but there needs to be a maximum net worth at which point the winners of the economy’s excess wealth is siphoned away to benefit the society that provided the conditions for that success in the first place. YOU WON! Now go enjoy having enough wealth to live 100 embarrassingly gluttonous lifetimes while we use the excess millions and billions to build Schools you can send your kids to and roads you can drive your collection of multimillion dollar supercars on. I know, I know, that would be eviiil and crueeel. A real victimization amirite? /s

Why is it a tragedy if the maximum wealth one person can hold is half a billion? Or better 100 million? They won’t want to keep “excelling” and working? Awesome, makes room for people without that kind of money to succeed.

There’s a damn good reason in game design why you NEED to have drains and hard limits and maximums in any multiplayer economy. The game would fucking break or leave players miserable. But not here irl where there are actual stakes. Nope.

With elections that monied interests can no longer purchase and disproportionately propagandize with their essentially limitless power/capital.

They have politicians work against the people, then buy enough ad propaganda to convince people that was a good decision in their interests without that, politicians would rise and fall moreso on what they do in office.

We are the weird ones in the developed world for allowing unlimited private money to pollute our politics, elections, and even buy sitting politicians though legalized political bribery superpacs. It got this way because of the influence of the wealth class being allowed in the first place using that in to expand its own power and ability to bribe, culminating in Citizens United.

I think our eventual collapse will be tied directly to that SCOTUS decision.

I mean when wealth reaches levels beyond material comfort, needs, and wants, when it becomes easy to warp society. Billionaire’s lifestyles doesn’t change AT ALL between 1 billion and 2, its about expanding power. That is what capital becomes at those levels.

Politicians swoon over you for “donations” (bribes), you begin to see regulations over the industry you exploit your profit from as amendable through lobbyists you can hire to represent your interests over society. Meanwhile that billionaire’s factory workers, customers concerned with product safety, our shared commons, and our communal environment have no advocates with such massive influence to counter them, when the needs of the many shouldn’t just balance the needs of the interests of the wealthy few at the top, they should far outweigh them. As it is, its the other way around. The billionaires have the resources to take care of themselves and protect themselves, most of society does not.

No one should have enough wealth to have more influence over society than your single vote allows. If you want more power, that should come by selling your ideas to society that votes on them by putting you into a political office, with ALL of the rules and accountability that comes with that office.

The White House and Senate often invites the billionaires of industries to be the authority on how those industries should be regulated, and it’s perverse. The Foxes advising on hen house security.

I always thought it would be a fun idea to name a bar “Moderation,” with a tagline of “Drink all you want when you’re in here!”

AllonzeeLV,

Aren’t we all continuously eating our own spit?

AllonzeeLV, (edited )

Friendly reminder:

Unless you grow and/or slaughter ALL your own food, you have eaten and will continue to eat both the intentional and unintentional shit, piss, spit, and cum of food processors, transporters, and preparers your entire life.

I know that freaks a lot of people out, personally it just reminds me that the idea of being clean in this world has always been a illusion and that there’s no point obsessing over something out of my control.

If we wanted that to happen significantly less, we could compensate and respect said workers commensurate with their vital role to society, fulfilling a universal basic human need, instead of treating them like shit, paying them shit, and calling food preparation/processing/serving “unskilled,” but we won’t, so enjoy!

And I’m sure most heroin people don’t understand most meth people and vice versa. We like the drugs we like.

AllonzeeLV, (edited )

Completely fair.

That said, when there was a proposal to increase standard work hours in South Korea recently, the people rejected it loudly. There is a desire in SK by many to achieve work life balance, which would be something of a slur in Japan.

Everything I’ve ever seen of Japanese culture would indicate so much as speaking against something like that would get you ostracized by the vast majority.

I think they missed the Disney shows which are of course canon.

I’m in the minority here, but I consider Obi-wan especially to be primary canon, as necessary as Movies 1-6. They retconned in the emotional core of the whole damn saga with Obi-wan and fully realized Vader’s confrontation and resolution. That moment truly bridged the OT and prequels for me like nothing else had.

AllonzeeLV,

Anyone else think that AI voice that is fucking everywhere in TikTok ads and YouTube voiceovers right now sounds exactly like Tim Russ?

AllonzeeLV,

Tuvok to be sure.

We can have the perpetual pain of subsistence and servitude to the oligarch club until it collapses under the weight of its own manipulation and propaganda after generations of needless suffering of our children and children’s children necessitating the painful work of rebuilding, or we can destroy the society built from the ground up as a capitalist exploitation trap and do the painful work of rebuilding.

This society perpetuates the misery and exploitation of the many to serve the whims and desires of the few. You act as if it’s worth saving. Go to one of your local tent cities, where we throw our fellow humans, aka defective capital batteries, to die of exposure and police harassment. This system is rotten to its core and will have to be torn down and rebuilt, the only question, just with climate change, is do we let the gaping wound continue fester, hoping it will be the next generation’s problem to amputate? Or do we take on the painful necessity of repairing the boomer’s greed plague for the future they didnt care about at all?

I’d rather our species be destroyed than continue to commit itself further and further to greed and greed worship. I consider greed far worse than hate. At least people that kill out of hate cared about who they killed, in that they want them dead. A capitalist that poisons children’s drinking water to make private shareholders a few extra dollars doesn’t even care to know those children’s names, they were just speedbumps to glorious profit. To me it is the darkest we can go to hurt others for profit. And our society’s core value above all others is greed. That’s worth saving?

AllonzeeLV,

Yeah, a group effort, lol

The laborers planned and built the stuff, and the owners took the profits. Good job team!

You realize that predatory crutches become systemic necessities precisely because they band aid such systemic issues from being addressed properly right?

Social security exists because seniors were dying in the streets.

Predatory reverse mortgages shouldn’t exist to exploit desperate people who would otherwise die, anymore than payday loan traps shouldn’t exist getting people trapped in impossible interest traps over a one time shortfall.

Instead of going through the pain and having society respond through governmental policy change, you now have predators making things far worse long term installing themselves as the “free market solution” that needs to be protected by government while bleeding already struggling populations to new depths.

A pay day loan /reverse mortgage may save a person here or there, but their existence at large hurts so many more. I will say it point blank: it was worth a lot of people dying to get social security enacted, because it was a real solution to a real problem, not yet another level of con game drawing out the pain.

And no, social security would not have been enacted when it was without those deaths. It would have been a far worse outcome for society if some predatory workhouse industry moved in and “saved” them in some cruel for profit scheme and declaring the problem “solved.”
