Updating the Nvidia drivers…

My laptop couldn’t log in to the desktop anymore in school and had to reinstall the drivers from scratch on the school wifi. Was painful

It doesn’t really matter for the average use though, most probably won’t really notice the app opening times and most Windows users will not care about the backend being closed source, coming from an entirely closed source OS. I will tend to recommend stock Ubuntu or Mint/PopOS at most because those actually bring some things to the table while being Ubuntu based, not being Ubuntu but with a different DE

Get Ubuntu, Mint, or PopOS don’t bother with the others at first as it will be more difficult to find help on forums with lesser known versions of Linux. If you have an Nvidia as your main graphics card you might have a better time with PopOS as it comes pre configured with the right drivers and everything.

Okay, so basically they updated Gnome, added some cool extensions and called it a day? Is there more to it than this that I am missing cuz this announcement is mainly just Gnome apps that have been updated to 43

I think Fedora updates are different because they are a fixed length cycle of 6 months which happens to line up with GNOME’s 6 months cycle. And also Fedora is a semi-rolling release with kernel updates being pushed relatively soon and as they come instead of via version updates

The roads are already so fucked up here from the corruption that took place in the construction industry (and it still probably does take place). The mafia owned all the construction companies and did shit work and charged more for less. So now all the roads are patched up and terrible to drive on. And the funny thing is as soon as you cross the border to Vermont or Ontario(I’m in Québec) it’s like crossing magic portal, the roads are instantly spotless lol

I feel so lucky to live in a place where winter tires are mandatory for the winter

At least it does not look blurry with fractional scaling enabled, which is the biggest issue IMO. The current hacky way is not ideal I agree but at least it is functional

I think what happened is that’s the sound the person made when they saw it coming out with their friend next to them laughing their ass off and calling it like that after

Afaik the M1Air is fully functional for this use case. I think only small things like the fingerprint sensor and deeper processor features are missing

The ultimate couch laptop will be an M1 MacBook Air as it has no fans and a suped up phone chip so it doesn’t heat. It also has amazing battery life… But it’s still pretty expensive and it cannot be repaired. Otherwise old MacBooks should be pretty good because most of the Intel models used relatively low end chips because their thermal design was so limited

Gnome with Wayland: I am just too used to the touchpad gestures and sleek looking apps to go back. Even windows looks and behaves janky in comparison

Firefox: plain better than the alternatives, the scrolling is so much better under Wayland too

The auto dark mode GNOME extention: it between dark and light mode depending on the time of day

Rounded window corners GNOME extension: forces all 4 corners of applications to have rounded corners

Separate /home partition, very useful for distro hopping or in case just going the nuclear option and reinstalling everything is the easiest way to deal with a breakage

Twitch would like to have a word with you, the ads are still shown even with the latest ublock filters. Google absolutely can shove ads into your face that your ad blocker won’t be able to remove, they just don’t do it for now
