independantiste, to linux in Linux reaches new high 3.82%

Wowzer, ok, that’s seriously impressive though, like in 2022 I feel we were stuck at 2-2.5% and in 2023 we passed 3% for the first time and now we’re at almost 4??? That’s like DOUBLING the market share in a year

People like this are the worst. They’ll say the most terrible thing ever said, then keep arguing for 20 minutes then when they are getting tired they just say they were joking and trolling and all that…

The quality you can get with film never ceases to amaze me. I think the Oppenheimer movie poster was shot on film then scanned digitally, and the final image is like 11k pixels wide. There was also a 1980’s music clip I saw the other day on YouTube that was labelled as remastered in 4k or something, and it looked great for a remaster. Turns out it was simply re-scanned with modern tools and since the original film was so crisp it was all that needed to be done. No AI enhancement bullshit and all that.

independantiste, to privacy in ProtonMail Complied with 5,957 Data Requests in 2022 - Still Secure and Private?
@independantiste@sh.itjust.works avatar

Idk for most people, but the reason I use proton mail is to avoid google parsing everything I receive to send me ads. I “have nothing to hide” on a legal pov, I’m not a criminal, the worst offence I do is like Jay walking or crossing at a red light on foot when there is no one at midnight. I don’t use proton services to protect myself from the law (or in other words to avoid the consequences of my acts), I just want to be a customer instead of a product.

independantiste, (edited ) to linux in Does Wayland really break everything? (Nate Graham's OG post ref'd in the Phoronix article)
@independantiste@sh.itjust.works avatar

Quite literally, the only problem or “stuff broken because or Wayland” is some old ass apps or lazy companies that won’t update their electron version. Looking at you discord, screen sharing COULD WORK if you managed your stuff

It doesn’t really matter for the average use though, most probably won’t really notice the app opening times and most Windows users will not care about the backend being closed source, coming from an entirely closed source OS. I will tend to recommend stock Ubuntu or Mint/PopOS at most because those actually bring some things to the table while being Ubuntu based, not being Ubuntu but with a different DE

independantiste, to privacyguides in Privacy Checkup Quiz: How well do you protect your privacy and security?
@independantiste@sh.itjust.works avatar

I got a 42% score, but I really feel that this is because it does not take into account the fact that people have different threat models. I don’t really care that Meta has a photo of my coffee that I shared to my friends. Pretty much my only criteria for me when sending stuff on unsecured chats is if the app got hacked, would I be ashamed if it got public.
