How Many Streaming Services Do You Have?

I remember when it was just Hulu for $5 and Netflix for $8. Saved $50 a month from cable. Now it seems we spend more. I have four. Max, Peacock, Paramount and Hulu. Prime doesn’t count because it sucks balls. (Only paying Netflix when next Stranger Things and Squid Game is released). Curious to see what the average...

stoy,

None, I refuse to sign up for any subscription, unless it can be done through gift cards, so I know that I will only spend a static ammount of money when I can afford it.

What is the least shit online store of the shitty ones? such as: Wish, AliExpress, etc..

What is the least shitty shit store? Never had a good experience with any of the shops such as, wish, aliexpress and the rest of em. But which one of them is considered the better one, or more likely to actually arrive with the correct item? Is etsy considered better than the rest? Are there any of these “low priced” stores...

stoy,

Limmared.nu is a small radio supply shop in Limmared that have great ratings and works well.

Apotea.se is an excellent online pharmacy, with quick delivery times.

Inet.se is an excellent computer store, they have physical locations in Stockholm and Gothemburg.

‘Amazing’: Queensland mum uses electric car to ‘save’ son’s life with dialysis during power outage (www.theguardian.com)

An electric vehicle owner has used her car’s emergency power system to run her 11-year-old son’s lifesaving dialysis machine and another has ridden to the rescue of his neighbours after devastating storms cut power in south-east Queensland....

stoy,

I would not be surprised if EVs will be an integral part of the future power grid, though it would be better to have static power pods with batteries distributed in neighbourhoods.

stoy,

I make one new years resolution every year, to not make any other new years resolutions.

So far it is going great!

stoy,

I have never had a social media account under my real name, apart from Linkedin, which is just there to show me for possible employers.

When I google myself, I only get results about my address and my Linkedin profile, so I do atleast exist.

As for advice about joning something like Facebook…

  1. Stay away from politics.
  2. Don’t just “like” random stuff, be selective and only “like” stuff you really enjoy.
  3. Do not engage with dickheads, people will be mean to you, block them and move on, don’t engage, you can just leave.
  4. Stay away from politics.
  5. Never post photos of your kids/family without explicit, preferably written, consent.
  6. Be open to take down any photo of a person if said person asks you to.
  7. Stay away from politics.
  8. Avoid posting content about vacations before and during them, bruglers have been known to use that info to know when a house probably is empty.
  9. If you are a woman, please be extra careful posting images of your face online, people have and will continue to take faces of women in particular and photoshop them into porn, it is sad, but is a reality.
  10. Be mentally prepared for a lot of hate, whatever you post, you will sooner or later annoy someone online, or even just come to attention of certain people, and they will swnd you hate filled messges, block them and don’t engage.
  11. Stay away from politics.
stoy,

Swede here, this looks just like a normal squirrel we have here

stoy,

You can use Task Scheduler in windows to run a command to run VLC at a specific time

stoy,

A monarch understanding that they work for the people, and represent the people.

The same goes for any nation’s leader, monarch or not.

stoy,

Here in Sweden you can just google a phone number or a name and get the address, a map of the area, an guide to find the right apartment, the persons gender, how many lives in the home, how many vehicles the person owns, the person’s age and birthday, the size of their aprtment, the aproximate value of their home, and more without any cost.

This is normal here, and since everyone is listed we don’t really think about it.

That being said, I would be quite annoyed if the press did an article on me where they published my home address…

stoy,

The air in an aircraft isn’t really circulated.

The engines constantly pump new air into the cabin, and at the back of the cabin there is a vent to the outside.

stoy,

I am on Windows as my workstation, but my servers run Linux, why should I install X/Wayland and VNC to manage my servers when even the later versions of Windows comes with an ssh client?

When I run linux with a gui, I mainly use the terminal as I sm more used to that rather than relearning a GUI.

stoy,

~20min after the post went up, OP has posted no thoughts…

So I’ll put in my own…

When I run Linux on a laptop, I tend to run Fluxbox, it uses a tiny ammount of screen real estate and is flexible snd nice to work with.

I am a bit sad that fluxbox won’t be updated to wayland (at least not when I checked the last time), and I hope that waybox will be a good replacement.

This package of bagels I bought expired on a date that doesn't exist. (i.imgur.com)

I originally posted this on the other site back when I took the picture, and it resulted in a lot of confused comments, especially from Americans, eventually getting removed by overzealous mods. Either way, I promise you that this date does not exist, and has never existed.

stoy,

The reason you keep hearing about it is because people won’t use the standard

stoy,

Sorry for being a bit of a dick, I think you mean that the file “is 3.8MB”.

“mb” would mean millibit, 3.8millibit is an impossibly small file size, and would never exist practically (though I an sure that with some clever maths a zip bomb could be designed so that one bit of data could be compressed into 3.8millibits)

MB is the proper shorthand for MegaByte, a decent file size for a high quallity pucture, depending on the format and compression.

Unless we analyze the image, and determine the image format and compression settings we have no idea of if 3.8MB is a resonable size of the file or not, and the mods have hidden a rar file in the picture file, it is highly improbable that would be the case however.

Sorry for being a dick.

stoy,

When I die, I don’t give a shit what happens to my body, do whatever causes people and the planet the least ammount of crap.

I weigh alot, so use a cart to wheel me around so you don’t injure your backs trying to carry me.

If cremation is the least bad, do that, if freeze drying is less bad than that, do that.

If you can use my corpse for science or education, go ahead.

Just, please wait untill I am dead.

stoy,

The Nobel peace prize is a joke…

The others are still usually pretty cool…

Thats a 3080, I don’t want to go last generation…

stoy,

Lemmy is just starting out, there are bound to be rough spots, so far Lemmy has satisfied my desire for some discussions, a desire from after the Apikalypse.

I still read reddit, but all my accounts are deleted, and I refuse let them win me back.

stoy,

Yes, there is no way to limit the links put in an email by someone else.

It is a dumb stratergy though, as email filters are getting better all the time, so the recipient’s filter will catch on quickly.

To explain further, part of my duties at work as an IT technician is to investigate emails getting caught in the email filter or emails that are reported as bad.

The filter will analyze links, attachments, sender and the general contents of the email, and if it finds something bad, it will block it and inform IT.

We then use a fairly large toolset to investigate the email, we see a lot of metadata, in addition to the email itself.

We also see a quick summary of why the email was blocked, and can look through all incomming mail, even those delivered, to find more from the same campaign and then delete them.

So swapping an ubsubscribe link is no isdue at all for an attacker, but all links en emails are scanned, so if you do do that, it will be discovered very quickly.

As an addendum to my write up on my work with email scanning and the access we have at IT, I allway want to add some context, and I feel this is extra important in a privacy focused community:

This is only dealing with work emails, we do not have access to your external email.

We at my IT team are just interested in getting rid of bad emails from our system, while we have the access none of us are interested in gossip, we go in, investigate the issue, do what we have to to clean it up, and then leave.

That is what our coworkers/employer can trust us on, but as the saying goes, “trust and verify”, there are a lot of logs that log our actions that will show exactly what we did in the system and when.

Gossip and playing office politics is not interesting, they are directly opposed to our work, and I am lazy, I don’t have the time or energy to deal with that.

stoy,

I would counter that there has only been one time in the past when it has been more important to use Firefox than now, that was when IE6 almost ruined the web.

You could actually argue that it is more important now, as Google is actively working to harm the open internet, which MS only did passively with IE6.

stoy,

Sure, but it doesn’t tell you what has changed.

stoy,

I am an IT guy, we need them for… …IT-stuff…

stoy,

I am not much into horror, but one movie that has stuck with me for a long time is Cube.

It is a gory, psycological horror movie, and while it lacks the Halloween theme, it is a brilliant movie.
