Eat them

Dmtr33d, in Lemmy, is there a treasured piece of content that you stop yourself from going back to "too often" so as to not dilute it?

IT Crowd and Peep Show.

pokkiff, in Is there a sub somewhere between shitty food porn and food porn?

Needs to be foodgw.

Agent641, in Any good YouTube recommendations?

Characters Welcome- ‘Totally not a cult’ and ‘Two trenchcoats inside of a kid’

FenrirIII, in Lemmy, is there a treasured piece of content that you stop yourself from going back to "too often" so as to not dilute it?

The dub of “The Touch” (from the Transformers animated movie) over the scene in End Game where Cap picks up Mjolnir

You’re more than welcome to post on shitty food porn. There’s not a lot of activity and the votes will let you know if it’s the right place (I don’t remove posts unless they’re breaking rules). It kind of has two interpretations - pictures of shitty food (self explanatory) or food porn that’s shitty (ie bad lighting, bad presentation, etc).

Or let me know if you start an “average food porn” community and I’m more than happy to link it in the sidebar of SFP.

banneryear1868, in How do Hue Bulbs do millions of different colors, what sorcery is this?

Same way a printer works, or color blending for that matter, with RGB or CMYK you can make any color. Primary colors and brightness. Greyscales and magentas are extra-spectral.

callouscomic, in So is the US slipping into Civil War?

A lotta people’s shitty 2nd amendment logic is about to be tested.

martinb, in Is there a sub somewhere between shitty food porn and food porn?

Be the change you want to see, etc…

kylie_kraft, in Is there an artist whose work you love but was a shitty person?

Marilyn Manson - he had a slow slide from alcoholism to lecher creep to serial abuser. he spent 2009-2011 doing the worst shit to women that you can imagine.

Brand New - turns out that Jesse was a groomer of underage girls.

Arcade Fire - Win Butler is a sex pest.

Smashing Pumpkins - not at all in the same category as the others, but goddamn does Billy Corgan suck. he was always known as a first-class egotist, but he just kept being an asshole long after his prime had become a distant memory. then the weird shit started: crackpot conspiracy theories on Myspace, palling around with Alex Jones on Infowars, dropping alt-right buzzwords in interviews. the latest album is an extended allegory on cancel culture. worse, it’s mostly unlistenable.

Kiernian,

palling around with Alex Jones on Infowars, dropping alt-right buzzwords in interviews

That saddens and actually kinda shocks me.

I would have expressed ZERO surprise to news of him going so far to the LEFT that he ended up miles beyond hippie dippie new agey and founded his own Heaven’s Gate cult (The central belief of the which was that followers could transform themselves into immortal extraterrestrial beings by rejecting their human nature, and they would ascend to heaven)…but this is…honestly weirding me out.

Wasn’t he going so far into eastern spirituality that he was recording himself reading the entirety of the Bhagavad Gita at one point or something?

Definitely the band “Heilung.”

I refuse to listen to them outside of live at a concert. It’s old Nordic style viking goodness and the live shows are more of a ritual than a concert. When I go, I want a full immersive experience and I feel listening to them in between the concerts takes away from the experience.

WhoresonWells, in What is the term for an abstract personification? (Examples below)

Metonym?

AnalogyAddict,

Yes! Thanks.

badbytes, in So is the US slipping into Civil War?

Nah, just giving Texas back to Mexico.

lemmy_in, in What is the term for an abstract personification? (Examples below)

The term is metonym. It is when you use a characteristic or associated attribute of a thing as the name of that thing. A classic example would be “the crown” when talking about the monarch or “The Whitehouse” when talking about the president.

AnalogyAddict, (edited )

Oh, this is a great word. Thanks! I just went down a huge rabbit hole of synecdoche vs metonym, and I doubt I’ll forget either term soon.
