With FEP-c118 there is currently an extension to the activitypub protocol in the works to allow setting a license on posts. If you don’t add a license info in your posts the licensing is unclear. I think that some jurisdictions give a default copyright and some protections to the author but I don’t know how that works.
With the fediverse you you have as much or as little rights as when you put it on your private blog without explicit licensing. If someone uses your works without your consent you still have to find out and you have to protected your rights yourself.
There are currently no lemmy or kbin instances that have monetization options. The only ActivityPub software I know that can show ads is misskey.
In the end you have to be aware that any kind of open social network is like screaming your thoughts towards a big crowd. You lose most of your control over it the second it’s out. It is nearly impossible to track who has the information and who shares it with others.
There are legal protections in some parts of the world but even then you first have to find out that something bad happened. If an instance were to start monetizing data it would probably cut off pretty fast and all the communities would probably move.
Still if there is stuff you don’t want everyone to know don’t post it publicly.
Go and have a chat with them. Perhaps as a half joke buy them a really nice pair of slippers for Christmas.
As an aside, I did once share an upstairs flat with a woman who had a prosthetic leg. We had wooden floors. The people downstairs were not amused, though she tried to move around as quietly as possible
I just keep thinking about how I’d do it, I’m so confrontation averse. Bc we’re in a mid rise, I don’t even know who they are or what they look like, which is another variable to add to my anxiety about such an interaction.
Last night I was thinking, what if I left myself a reminder to write them a note when I’m not actively aggravated, and just left it in their mailbox. /shrug
Earthquakes are the only things I’ve ever had to worry about where I live. The preparation other than basics for any emergency is (hopefully) handled by the construction companies that built my home and the surrounding buildings, since this is California and making buildings earthquake proof is a requirement here. Unless a super quake hits or something. Then I plan to move to the Eastern coast of the state. 😎
Yes, but how about the artists that pressed their recordings only on vinyl? There are scores of artists that may have only made a couple thousand records and will be lost to time without people saving them.
Sub? Where’s the sub? Battle stations!!! Arm the torpedoes and depth charges!!! :D
We haver loads of communities for messing about, memes and just general banter. I think this community as well as !nostupidquestions and loads of others are for more serious questions.
-40 temperatures every few years. I live in an apartment so I’m not allowed to install a fireplace and can’t really make changes to the heating system. Got a heap of candles that could keep a small room above freezing for a day or two.
Excessive amounts of snow. 4WD and can work remotely.
Hmm, so I like movies that kinda play with your expectations and turn out to go into a completely different direction than you’d expect.
Dragon (2011) with Donnie Yen is a good example. You think you’re getting another Kung Fu flick, but it turns out to be more of a detective story of almost Sherlock Holmes-style complexity.
Yes there’s kung fu but it’s mostly esoteric and there’s only a few fights, but it’s still a fascinating movie.
Zis it outrageous!
We tschermans have very good humor, ja?A few days ago, I asked a philosopher to think for me, ja? He said he Kant. Isn't that funny?! KANT!
Let the 20th century’s middle children have their joke. Comon, it was a little goof and you come in guns blazing. Relax, save your energy for fighting something that matters.
Now if you’ll excuse me I’ll be over here rubbing IcyHot and cannabis lotion on my joints as I quietly await an early death
When you’re on YouTube/piped it automatically embeds the comments under the description. I think it’s obvious why that’s better than manually searching all of lemmy for each thread that has the same link
I can relate, before I got my own car, I prided myself on not needing it.
But having a car has enabled me to do way more than before, I am a hobby photographer, and being able to get to the airport for some planespotting in 40 min is way, way better than needing 2h with public transport.
Let’s just say I’ve raised a child who is now an adult, all without a car. By now, I know the inconveniences and opportunities it costs me well, but for me, they’re just not enough of a reason.
I am using Voyager, which compared to the previous client I was using is remarkable, beside this and other features that don’t work in an intuitive way or maybe don’t work at all.
