SHamblingSHapes, in How many tabs do you have open?

Zero. I don’t have a browser open, just a phone app.

ctag,
@ctag@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

I’m still counting that as one. What app do you use and how do you like it?

SHamblingSHapes,

Boost. I used Boost for Reddit, so this app for Lemmy feels very familiar.

I like how few taps it takes to switch accounts. I like how I can set my default feed and sort and it sticks where some other lemmy apps I tried frequently reset to a trending feed, gross.

I like the feature that allows me to apply a custom tag to users that only I can see. I use it to keep an eye on potential trolls. If I have a person tagged as “MAGA troll”, I know not to engage with them but to grab the popcorn and enjoy the ride.

Allowed for a sense of peace with my own mortality.

Is it necessary to leave empty replies like this though? I would like to have more replies to read too but I think it’s better to just let people come up with them.

(speaking as a user, not as a mod. Forgot lemmy always shows the icon)

cheese_greater,
  • What was your particular orientation with that previously, like we’re all sort of shifty about death but I don’t think much about it (like before I was born, that doesn’t scare me so I kinda dont get the inverse of that)
  • do you have a condition that makes this all the more prescient or timely
  • any articulable messages you can share that encapsulate the experience we can try to glean from?
can,
  • roughly the same with added suicidal ideation

technohacker, in How many tabs do you have open?

Had 300 on my laptop a while ago, finished up a project which let me drop it down to 160.

On my desktop I have 1,300 or so. Both of them on a single Firefox window with Sidebery

rckclmbr,

Have you used TreeStyleTab? I’m wondering how it compares with Sidebery

technohacker,
@technohacker@programming.dev avatar

I started with TST actually! I can’t remember the exact reasons but I thiiink I switched over to Sidebery for better/faster session restores

pt99,

Finally someone who had a decent amount! Last time I checked I had 1100!

2d4_bears,

Wow and I thought I had a lot. I salute you.

Honytawk,

But why?

And how many of those can be closed?

technohacker,
@technohacker@programming.dev avatar

Cuz I use them as a way to keep tabs (heh) on different projects I’m involved in. Tree tabs are much faster for me to organize into folders compared to bookmarks since they’re already part of my flow of using tabs in the first place :)

That being said, I end up using them more as a way to search through pages I had opened before, using the URL bar. Browser history is a little more finicky to search in that regard

As for how many I can close, I tend to close tabs once I’m done with something in a project (though some tabs I keep around if i find them to be useful beyond that specific project). I also have a bunch of tabs open for music and videos that I want to share with my friends when they get time which could be closed once I share them

ctag,
@ctag@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

That’s a heck of a lot of tabs there. Good luck with them!

MargotRobbie, in How many tabs do you have open?
@MargotRobbie@lemmy.world avatar

You should get vertical tabs on your browser. Tree style tab for Firefox is pretty good.

misophist,

I prefer Sidebery, but vertical tabs of any sort are the way to go. Plus userChrome.css to nuke the top tab bar.

Fal,
@Fal@yiffit.net avatar

Sidebery is the best

Thank you for the suggestion!

Newtra, in How many tabs do you have open?

I just did a big cleanup! I think it’s down to about 40 on my work computer and 70ish on my computer.

Don’t ask about the phone I’m typing this on… It’s a lost cause.

ctag,
@ctag@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Firefox on android keeps garbage collecting tabs too aggressively for me to do my thing.

seaQueue, (edited ) in How many tabs do you have open?
@seaQueue@lemmy.world avatar

I organize my tabs by topic window (small project, chunk of work for a larger project, related idea) then kick them into onetab as a bundle with a short description when I’m done with whatever it is I needed them for.

I typically have 5-30 tabs open in topic windows at any time but I can open onetab and ctrl-f to find anything I’ve saved over the last 7 or 8 years. There must be 5000 tabs in there at this point.

ctag,
@ctag@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

You are the tab master. Thank you for describing your workflow!

AmosBurton, in How many tabs do you have open?

68(I realize how close it is) on my phone. My PC gets shut down daily so it cannot accumulate too many but normally I have 2 browsers with ~4-8 tabs unless I’m researching something, then it’s 193,646,691

ctag,
@ctag@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

I definitely empathize with the research tab balloon.

Tsubodai, in What are the best e-readers on the market?

Lurking to see what folks think… I have a really old nook which I rarely use anymore. Reasons for getting it was my ebooks are all in epub format, and I heard scary things about Amazon doing shady things with my books/data.

After setting up a home server, I now self host my books and haven’t found an easy way of transferring books onto it, other than plugging it in with a cable. (Tried rooting it, kind of got it to work but it wasn’t great).

I really miss being able to send any new epubs to it over WiFi/email/without needing a cable.

Now I usually read books on my phone, using Moon+ reader app and a WebDAV (LAN) connection to my server. Calibreweb is running to enable me to grab books when I’m travelling/away from home, but for long trips I’ll sync the nook up with a cable. Battery life is incredible compared to a phone…

I'm not a reader but I do have three readers on my Christmas list. Based on this thread they're getting Kobos

Bob_Robertson_IX, in Is there an artist so horrible that no matter how hard you try that you cannot separate their art from them?

Gary Glitter… so many sporting events still play this pedophile’s music.

angstylittlecatboy, (edited ) in What's the best gaming console and why?

Take your pick between PS2, OG Xbox, GameCube, Dreamcast, or SNES. I just think those are the consoles with the strongest libraries.

MedicPigBabySaver, in What would be some of your top choices of things to see if you were the size of an ant?

Hump a lady bug 😉

Rhynoplaz,

Giggity!

tomi000, (edited ) in [EXPERIMENTAL] What are your hidden gem medications/drugs/substances and what makes them ideal for your usecase [**Bolded Substance Name (Brand/Street Name)** + New Paragraph folks]

Phenibut

Helps relieve anxiety and eases social contact. For me personally its just a mood enhancer and makes listening to music so good. About 500-1500mg is a normal dose, lasts for up to 24h and should not be taken more often than once a week.

maryjayjay, in Is there an artist whose work you love but was a shitty person?

Pablo Picasso was apparently a misogynistic shitbag who preyed in young girls

youRFate, in What would be some of your top choices of things to see if you were the size of an ant?

Play Grounded, it’s great, especially in coop.

Cyfress,

Just discovered it after the big patch came out in November. Fun game. The OP can just find out lol

southsamurai, in Is there an artist so horrible that no matter how hard you try that you cannot separate their art from them?
@southsamurai@sh.itjust.works avatar

Eh, not really.

Now, there are some examples where I won’t/can’t actively seek out their work, and would never contribute to them by buying anything at all, ever.

Cosby falls into that category, just as an example.

But, I have a complete separation as far as the work itself being valid/good despite the origins. Using Cosby as the example again, if I’m somewhere and one of his performances is on, I’m not going to care enough to change a channel or leave, or even say anything.

That’s pretty much anyone and everyone. I just don’t have that thing where a given item, piece of work, whatever, is “tainted” just because the person that made it is a piece of shit. I don’t form an association like that. It’s that I choose to not seek out some things as a matter of principle.

But, as a general rule, if they’re dead, I don’t care at all. And, if the person in question is only one person involved in a group effort, that group effort is fine by me. Like, if the guitarist of a band is a piece of shit, but everyone else is not, why would their work be a bad thing?

Now, this isn’t to say that I ignore any bad acts when interacting with a given work. Take van Gogh as an example. His excesses and disturbing behaviors are part of his work to an extent. It’s a thing where knowing the person’s flaws informs the interaction with the work. Kinda like “gee, I wonder how much of this work stems from the same root as the bad acts did?”

But, I can enjoy the work of people I personally despise with no issues. I just don’t have whatever it is that other people have that makes a thing tainted based on the creator.

Part of that is knowing how shitty humans in general are, and how hard it is to find any artist that didn’t/doesn’t have massive flaws. In music and painting in particular, you run into a shit ton of artists that were abysmal people. If I did have that whatever it is that causes a connection between the art and the artist’s flaws, I wouldn’t be able to listen to much music at all.
