don’t buy it. ever. and if people bring it over make them take it back. make grocery lists before going to the store with healthy snacks you like on it or meal plan filling meals. and eat before you go to the store so you shop with your head, not your stomach lolol.

Basically we all need to learn how to hack ourselves.

Whatever that may look like for you is fine, so long as the hacks don’t cause secondary problems then whatever works works.

Your Ritual = sit, watch, snack on crap, repeat until ??

So maybe try and replace each bit, one at a time, and see what you can bear to white knuckle long enough for it to transform into an enjoyable habit:

  • Sit -> walk on treadmill / exercise bike / whatever while you watch, or go outside for a walk while you listen to podcasts etc
  • Watch -> listening to podcasts and music or video audio frees up your eyes to be doing a crazy or hobby while you listen. This also means your hands will be occupied and not snacking.
  • Snack -> swap in fresh sweet crunchy veg (carrots, sweet bell pepper etc) or popcorn (no butter ya sneaky bugger) etc
  • Repeat until ??? -> Portion control. You don’t take the whole bag of chips out of the kitchen, you take out a small bowl full and that’s your limit

Pick whichever one you want.

Change is hard. We kinda hate it. But it’s worth it.

iiGxC, in How to stop eating junk food?

Find hobbies or projects or do stuff with friends to the point that you don’t have time for movies and youtube

When you’re at the store, don’t buy junk food. If it’s in the house it’ll be extremely difficult to say no to, but while shopying it’s easier to make a more rational decision. Also, plan your meals for the week and maybe meal prep

LightningSteve, (edited ) in How do you grow your Twitch/YouTube Channels?

Consistent schedule for uploading/streaming.

Focus on quality content/retaining viewers

Collaborate with other content creators in the same genre

Don’t sexually harass fans/don’t send creepy or cringe dms

Keep your grades up.

Get half decent audio equipment. Doesn’t need to be the most expensive (quality content can make up for this short-term but not for long)

Usually for earlier channels, it’s easier to make better content with a partner/small group until you find your personality.

Titles and thumbnails matter more than you think.

Don’t force it, but keep an eye out for clippable moments and share them where they would be relevant

You’re first 2 points especially matter. I like browsing low views/newer channels/streams and I’m sorry but I’m not interested in the 200th all day league streamer. I watch wubby fairly often and he streams 3ish hours 3 days a week. A decent length at a regular schedule. I have a friend who streams for roughly 8ish people ::: spoiler spoiler every day but she does it for about an hour and a half at the same time and both of these people interact with the audience/content they’re doing.

I know some people prefer completely silent streams with just gameplay but the majority of people who go to twitch do it for the social aspect.

Following as I’m in the same boat as you… for me the only thing that helps is when I’m doing one of my hobbies or something else, although usually I end up forgetting to eat in that scenario 😢

Try to replace what you currently eat with something else that is snacky but healthy like carrots, nuts or grapes.

neptune, in Ancient wisdom often sounds like common sense now that it is commomly taught. What is some ancient wisdom that we no longer teach because it was wrong?

I don’t think anyone can give you good advice without knowing the reasons you’d rather not get in to.

I can think of various scenarios where some sort of minimal internet presence under your real name would be useful for social or employment reasons, but exactly what it is you’re trying to accomplish makes a big difference in terms of what tools (including corporate platforms, federated microblogging like Mastodon, a blog, or a static website) will get you the results you want.

What’s popular where you live or in your professional field matters too. For some people, not using Facebook or Linkedin specifically is unusual, but we don’t have enough information to know if that’s true for you.

You’re already using social media, the only difference is that you’re in the fediverse, not the metaverse.

Weird how no one recommended Mastodon yet.

You can switch your profile to public and follow some nice people and hashtags, if anyone wants to check your vibe. All with you real name. It has become the good version of twitter for me and at least in europe many people are starting to use it.

Jonnynny, (edited ) in what, in your opinion, drives the start time of factory and manufacturing jobs to 5am?

I used to be an Operations Manager at a machine shop with 150 employees and a Program Manager at another places with 250 employees. Both had 5am starts. In my experience, the biggest factor was support for the billable staff. You have direct labor employees; these are the people who run machines and fabricate products. Then there are indirect employees that support the direct employees; like purchasing, planning/scheduling, management, customer service, quality, etc. Most manufacturers with a 5am start time are running multiple shifts of direct labor. Indirect employees usually don’t start until 7-8am and overlap both shifts to have some support for both day and night shift.

Manufacturers that run one shift(like my current job) usually start later. We start at 7am but allow people to flex their start time for kids, etc.

HansSlonzok, in How to respond to gf saying "I'm fat"

Whatever you say you’ll be wrong. If your answer is “You are not!” then she will blame you “You are not looking at me at all. Am i not pretty for you?” If your answer is “Yes you are!” then you are screwed. If your answer will be silence then she will do the same as the answer would be “Yes you are!” but she will add… you are a coward.

OP understands the risks, and they’re asking for tips on how to mitigate them if they have to make an account.

A lot of the comments here either missed or intentionally ignored the post body… Or the downvotes on the comment with a personal account saying how single women can feel safer if they can learn about a new person before meeting them.

People have different circumstances and perspectives :)

My advice for the original post:

  • Joining: You don’t have to join everything at once, figure out what you might need. This also depends on where you are because different platforms are popular in different places. LinkedIn is one of the few that are helpful in my area.
    • You can also start with Fediverse platforms if you prefer, but if you’re trying to connect with specific people that might not help
    • An alternative getting your name published on articles or blogs to fill up the search results
  • Usage: Do spring cleaning constantly. It’s a big task if you try to clean your feed all at once, and it’ll be easier for you to do it from the start. When you don’t like something/someone, unfollow or mute. You can do it in a way that the other person won’t know, if that’s important. A lot of the problems of social media can be avoided if you maintain your feed.
  • I’ll add more if I can think of them, good luck!

I think it can help to have some presence, even if it is to control what information comes up when someone looks you up.

I think more than the fediverse isn’t needed
