love this, thank you for sharing. after 33 years of life hiding and compensating for my perceived differences, earlier this year a healthcare professional finally diagnosed me with AuDHD. i have always had several surprising standout skillsets with which, as an adult, i have been able to monetize in order to support myself. but i have also always struggled severely in a number of unexpected areas that have a noticeable impact on my daily life. the context my diagnosis provides has been full of healing and understanding. i can be proud of my unique abilities and also accepting of my unique limitations.
it is super exciting to hear how another neurodivergent mind has learned to harness their gifts even amongst the obstacles. cheers!
A lot of people have read this question to mean the accurate scientific implications of everyday superpowers which isn’t really in the spirit of superpowers. I’ll try to say powers that feel generally altruistic or built for cute characters that have cruel implications.
Healing us the classic cute superpower, but if the user of the power chooses to overheal somebody they could probably cause basically mega cancer.
It’s pretty easy to imagine the the implications of controlling animals, and it’s a pretty good power to sit in the background as a utility power until the user decides to have every insect, rat and pigeon in the city bombard somebody.
The ability to share memories is hard to be used villainously but two fucked applications would be to beam somebody’s traumatic experience I to somebody else’s head (or an experience that happened to one person that could trigger someone else’s PTSD), or if the user has trained themselves to be able to alter their memories to fictional events on demand, turning what is basically a truth finding superpower into an abuse of perceived honesty.
Finally the superpower of using Reddit and Lemmy your whole life and generating a very standard way if responding but having the cruel and unusual twist of always sounding like fucking ChatGPT.
Ads are what have been keeping the internet largely free. They don’t really bother me anyways. Both the creator/site/company and the consumer benefit from this transaction. If the ads make the experience unbearable though, easy enough to simply disengage from it.
Internet is not free, and there was plenty of cool stuff online well before everyone decided to make money out of every single thing. So no, bad argument.
Edit: Let me correct myself: there was much more cool stuff before.
My mom uses Edge, told me not to block Facebook ads and clicks on most of the clickbait articles on her MSN home page. It’s like she WANTS them to collect as much data to sell and spy on her as much as possible 🤦
That’s not necessarily an awful take, to be fair. That is arguably to the benefit of the consumer, that they can learn about products that are relevant to them.
I’m completely disconnected from what new movies and TV shows come out after years of blocking all ads. I can see wanting to change but ads have only gotten more annoying so I have no desire to change yet
Personally, I get actually relevant Instagram ads pretty frequently, particularly for various events that I'm interested in. I've seen more than a few shows specifically because I saw an Instagram ad.
I'd naturally prefer no ads, but when they are necessary - and someone does have to pay the costs of running large platforms - I would prefer them to be actually relevant. It's still ultimately my decision as to whether I buy something or not.
Game development. I do the coding, 3D art and animation, everything. I don’t know if I’ll ever even finsh another project, and it’s incredibly time-consuming, but I enjoy it.
Same, but honestly for me it is such a lonely existence. Even when I show off my projects to friends/family they can’t understand the effort that went into it… many seem to think there’s a “make racing game” button or something and I just added some textures or built a track.
I often wonder if I should pivot into wood working or something else, at least I’d have something tangible to gift or sell at the end. People just seem to appreciate things they can hold in their hands more.
I have a GIF of a quick placeholder character I made a while ago (I kinda want to keep it though). I’m also hoping to make it multiplayer, but not sure if I’ll be able to optimize it enough to make it playable. https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/pyvdc8opqay.gif
I’m sure there is, but tbh I don’t know how, since I don’t need it.
The way Consent-o-Matic works is that it accepts all, securely deletes all of it immediately before it can do anything. That way the site thinks you have all of it so it won’t ask again, but you actually get none of it.
All this plus removing the consent- and other pop-ups for you. A few of the nastier pop-ups might be on your screen for a tenth of a second or less as Consent-o-Matic gets rid of it for you, but otherwise it’s like they were never there to begin with!
My father dying. Haven’t had very much contact, but the rest of the family expected some things from me apparently, still don’t know what exactly, I just left the hospital silently, like my father left my life when I was four. I’m not really affected by the whole ordeal, but it really really annoyed me over Christmas. That guy couldn’t even die without making a fuzz. 🙄
While I am a stranger and me saying sorry probably doesn’t help much. That stuff sucks and I am sorry you had to deal with it. People have it in their head that we are all supposed to love our family and just get along but people don’t realize that families are sometimes just people who didn’t love us or loved us less than we loved them or vice versa loved us more than we loved them. Family is tricky. It doesn’t sound like you were close and I don’t know your entire story but either way it is a loss and regardless of him not being there for you it says a lot that you were at the very least there for him. Which, in my opinion, is the most you can do.
I hope you are the person that carries that forward and uses that as a means to not walk out on others lives when they need you most and I hope in return they are a part of yours when you are on your way out of this world. Enjoy your holidays.
If you preheat the Stone and send the pizza off a wooden peal (which will take some practice, granted), the dough will start to crisp right away and it shouldn’t be stuck at all when you go to turn it in a few minutes. You don’t even need oil. Cooking cold pizza from a cold stone though, that makes sticking much more likely. Also like that other guy said, use a little bit of cornmeal and flour under the pie, or I hear you can use semolina flour, which is courser apparently.
I have been using adguard dns on my phone for years. For the past one year or so also using adblockers on browser (Firefox). Used to watch youtube with ads. Got fed up moved to watching youtube in browser with adblocker, then finally moved to newpipe sponsor block when youtube started adblocker shenanigans. For pc I use cloud flare dns, regular adblockers (Firefox) and keep privacy and security settings on strict.
