Hello! I’m Matt and I just booted up Globe.pub, a Lemmy instance focused on world travel. I’m trying to build a cozy and friendly home for people who used to have that sort of community on Reddit....
Has anyone else tried finding a lemmy.world community on lemmyverse.net? I don’t see any results for known communities that exist. I’m not sure if that is intentional or overlooked or what. The last I checked, that search was still being used to find communities that maybe haven’t been connected yet to a user’s home...
I have been a member of my current Mastodon instance for a few years now, and I absolutely love the community there. But recently, I found a Firefish instance that I am thinking of maybe switching over to, because I like Firefish so far, and the community there is also really awesome. I figure with migrating followers, I can...
Since the lemmy.world admins here are refusing to clarify their own rules, selectively enforcing their vague rules, using communities for user counts before banning them and just being, well, spez-like, it’s time to find a new home....
You say a lot of things, but do you have evidence of them? Or is it just related to them doing what's actually required to avoid giving the people DDoSing them another means of taking them down, fake DMCAs based on communities hosted in other instances that promote breaking the law?
And before anyone gets any idea, if they tried doing the same because they are mad, expect for it to backfire. Spectacularly. As in you might want to think twice before moving directly into the servers hosting those communities. And that's not a threat, that's because anyone with a brain can read, specially those in the legal world who have jobs because there is literally a separate aspect of legal proceedings involved in collecting evidence called discovery where lots of people with brains are able to read and understand the same conversations you and me are able to understand for instances that might indicate aiding, abetting, and collusion, being able to discern them from the false accusations thereof as well.
This makes no sense in reply to my comment. Free speech is about the government, changing Lemmy instances won’t change the fact that Lemmy is not the government. My opinion, views, etc have nothing to do with this. As far as free speech is concerned a community would be free to remove trans positive comments if they so chose.
I moderate a mainly German-speaking (English and other languages are also welcome) OpenTTD community on Feddit. Questions about OpenTTD can be asked there. I will also regularly inform about the current development status of OpenTTD. I hope to welcome more people to the community soon. Here is the instance agnostic link !openttd
Unsure if this is the best place to post this, there’s a few communities from this instance that have already been posted here but I figured the instance itself might be worth letting people know about....
I mean, actually maybe not the newest community, it’s like 2 months old or so, around the time when the other website troubles happened and I didn’t really announce it anywhere because who wants to post something here will search and find it y’know, but it doesn’t really show up on other Lemmy instances and I thought...
How do I prevent this? Whenever an article gets popular it gets posted to the news community of every single instance so you have to scroll by it several times a day for a week. Is there a “prevent duplicates” option in any of the clients? I’m pretty close to abandoning lemmy honestly. There’s very little content that...
I suppose the community was unfortunately eliminated because of the politics of the instance where it is hosted, but I am not sure, if I directly go to the community there is nothing, it does not seem to exist anymore. And maybe it’s related to one of the post of a mod no long ago, which was asking someone to join as a mod...
You just have a very high tolerance for jackassery. You've seen plenty of evidence of hexbear hostility, i.e. the "dunk tank" that would justify not wanting to interact with hexbear users and have actively chosen to disregard it.
This is because you're kind of a jackass. Disregarding people engaging in good faith with "just trust me bro" is exactly the kind of thing people really hate hexbear users for. Not because of illegal activity or moral failing, but because they're assholes. While you may think this isn't worth de-federation, unfortunately moderators aren't some kind of legal authority, and if federating with hexbear means instance admins or community moderators need to put in triple the work to prune all the arguments and """shitposting""" hexbear users love, nobody is legally or morally required to put up with it.
It's legitimately that simple. Hexbear users are jerks and nobody wants to hang out with them, and that's enough to ban them from any given community or instance.
To be honest, it’s not a huge deal. The copyright cartel can easily send dmca requests to your isp just for having text guidelines. Not everyone has the bandwidth or energy to deal with stuff like that.
I just wish this wasn’t done at the request of a transphobic racist who just did it to get back at is for getting banned for making transphobic and racist communities in this instance.
We badly need Lemmy clients that can merge instances even if they’re defederated, as well as the other way around, filter out entire instances even if your instance won’t defederate from them. Letting instance owners dictate what you can or cannot see is not the way.
There are clients that will do the former (eg. Liftoff) but I’m not aware of any that will do the latter. I don’t understand why, it can’t be that hard to filter users and communities by instance.
Hey people its your friendly neighbourhood mod here. As the title suggests I am looking for 3 new mods for this community. To be fair I am pretty sick of how this instance is managed and I’d rather not make any contributions to it, thats why I will be stepping down as a mod....
