What’s the Linux desktop for the playful developer? 🤔

I think mid translates to reliable and boring. Which is desirable for an OS.

Let’s do it right here!
Sway is a Wayland i3 implementation and you really should be using Wayland instead of X.

Based Xenia suggesting browsers for an open and healthy web. Go Xenia!

BautAufWasEuchAufbaut, (edited ) to linuxmemes in Evil maid or something? Idk I use LUKS
@BautAufWasEuchAufbaut@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

LUKS doesn’t protect you from an evil maid attack. It hides your data when your stuff gets stolen in a powered off state, but it provides neither verification of data, nor does it provide verified/secure/safe boot.
In simple terms: the very first thing which gets loaded needs to be unencrypted (barring some exceptions I will omit here), which can get replaced with an evil version by the evil maid.

Avoid Tor Browser if you can please, it’s slow and the bandwidth might be better needed by people in difficult circumstances.
A good VPN is better for sharing media.

@BautAufWasEuchAufbaut@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

In Wayland programs are supposed to draw their own title bar

That’s incorrect. GNOME does it like this, Plasma doesn’t. KDE came up with a standard so a program can communicate this to the DE, GNOME slept on it. That’s why e.g. mpv doesn’t run well on GNOME.

The source is literally not “open”. It doesn’t make sense to say that without referring to open source.
Saying the source is available to see, that makes sense though.

BautAufWasEuchAufbaut, to linuxmemes in You have no power here
@BautAufWasEuchAufbaut@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I don’t think that’s the correct path. There is a scanner already, called ClamAV, which works well enough.
Virus scanners don’t fix the problem though. Android does it better: security by isolation and verification of system components.

Oh you’re young, sorry for the offensive wording. I saw you’re programming and trying technology out - good on you! I hope you’ll never lose your excitement about technology.
It’s quite a political thing, but I am sure you’ll find your way around it.
