Blackmist,

I think stats are all over the place. According to this /c/piracy is top.

But, yeah. When you go to technology on lemmy.world it shows 50k. When I visit it from feddit.uk, I see 294 subscribers.

Is each one showing how many users just your instance has subscribed, or does the lemmy.world one actually have the correct amount?

Blackmist,

It’s strange that automatic doors are standard on the outside of just about every shop, but nobody has ever thought to put them indoors.

Blackmist,

Two days in and Japan already had an earthquake and a place crash.

2019 might just have been a trailer for 2024…

Blackmist,

Even the Microsoft pages are terrible.

Everything is a bot that gives you four paragraphs of text about how they’re a certified Microsoft Windows professional technician, but all they ever do is tell you to run sfc /scannow.

Blackmist,

It cost £200 million (£327m at current prices) just for 14km of tram lanes in my local city.

It could buy a decent amount of buses (~£200k each, more for green options), but without infrastructure changes and bus lanes, have fun watching them sit in traffic while everyone refuses to use them.

Shit’s expensive yo.

Blackmist,

And if they were found to be sending it all the time, holy fuck the fines would end the company.

What is your unpopular flim opinion

I’ll go first. Mine is that I can’t stand the Deadpool movies. They are self aware and self referential to an obnoxious degree. It’s like being continually reminded that I am in a movie. I swear the success of that movie has directly lead to every blockbuster having to have a joke every 30 seconds

Blackmist,

The Empire Strikes Back is the only one that I would say is a great movie.

Blackmist,

All of that is on streaming, and worse.

A lot of TV has always just been a way to fill the gaps between the adverts as cheaply as possible. Moving from 4 channels to 200 didn’t increase the amount of stuff you could watch, it just spread it all over the place.

It ate itself, streaming is going the same way. Maybe they’ll eventually catch on and have a service that contains every movie and TV show (once they’ve finished in the theatre, and past the Blu-ray/Pay-per-view part of their lifespan where people will pay for it individually), for like £30 a month, and it can be like Spotify and the other music services. A Kaleidescape for poor people. Until then I’ve gone back to mostly yarring it for any new stuff, and using a Jellyfin server.

Nobody wants a dozen services to look through, even if they did have more money than sense.

Blackmist,

I don’t remember hearing what Jack Dorsey thought of anything.

Musk has literally paid 30 billion to have his own private megaphone on the internet.

Blackmist,

Now imaging crawling into a cave, and being blocked by somebody else’s shoes.

Blackmist,

Scrolling through the list I can’t believe that people actually watch that shit, let alone pay for it.

It’s all the kind of crap that people leave used to leave on in the background and to get bombarded with 4 sets of adverts an hour. The direct result of needing to fill 200 channels as cheaply as possible.

Refunding everyone would probably cost Sony less than a million. I’d wager some of those shows nobody has ever purchased.

Blackmist,

Once you’ve been playing longer, you’ll see. At the start you can pretty much just carry everything about, but later on you’ll be sending armour and weapons to camp or dumping them on a character you think they might be useful on in certain situations.

Then, if and when you get a new companion (and you might not get them depending on your choices), you think “oh, I wonder what gloves I should put on him”.

And that’s when you realise that all the gear is scattered among the camp chests and characters in camp, and you end up just not bothering.

It’s even a thing between your origin characters, as you mess about decking e.g. Gale in all the best magic gear, and then you need to use Wyll for something and you just can’t be bothered to move it all over so don’t use him because you know you’re going to have to move it all back again when you want a companion that isn’t such a whiny bastard.

Blackmist,

I don’t understand why they sell GPUs for up to $2000, and they still come with the same crappy fans we had on $150 cards.

Want watercooling? Have fun invalidating your warranty.

Blackmist,

Or they leave a link to the solution.

The link is dead.

Blackmist,

Drivers are definitely out. Some games are really iffy. Especially from the Win 9x era, where they’d do stupid things like look for a 9 in the version string of Windows, or get the amount of RAM as a 32 bit signed int, so refuses to install if you have 4GB RAM or more.

We had a lot of dodgy old DOS programs that were fine under Win98, but XP broke them.

Louis Rossman/FUTO's YouTube app, GrayJay, now supports Sponsorblock... and shames you if you use it

Seriously this was very surprising. I’ve been experimenting with GrayJay since it was announced and I largely think it’s a pretty sweet app. I know there are concerns over how it isn’t “true open source” but it’s a hell of a lot more open than ReVanced. Plus, I like the general design and philosophy of the app....

Blackmist,

How dare you besmirch Shadow Raid Legends VPN like that!

Blackmist,

I’m not deaf but I fucking love subtitles.

There’s a lot of mumbly actors out there.

Blackmist,

We need a new metric standard. Introducing the 💩.

112.6 standard rolls = 1k💩

Blackmist, (edited )

Hard agree. The others just don’t give any characters enough to time to do anything other than show, do a bit of fan service, and fuck off again. Endgame is a complete clusterfuck.

The only things that have been anywhere near that good since are the Spiderman (maybe not the middle one) and Guardians of the Galaxy (James Gunn is just at home doing this stuff) movies.

I wanted the Taika Waititi and Sam Raimi films to be a lot better than they were, and they just feel too constrained by the House of Mouse for the kind of directors they are.

Blackmist,

Don’t tell Elon, it’ll be filled with his shitty cars by the end of the week.

Blackmist,

The secret to long life is to live a really long time without dying.

Blackmist,

You can use the same trick in job applications.

If they didn’t check themselves, they didn’t really care in the first place.
