mack123,

I have a set of 6 virtorinox steak knives from the 90s, that turned into general purpose kitchen knifes. They are now finally starting to become blunt. The black platic handles are smooth from use. 30 years on, ithink the time is approaching for them to be replaced. And that is only because I cannot sharpen the serated blades.

InEnduringGrowStrong,

The beatings will continue until morale improves.

Yeah, just got an email from them stating that (I still have premium from being guilded). Great company management as always.

Yeah I’m already donating via “buy me a coffee” might as well make it fun to do.

Honestly it’d be kinda nice for Lenny/Kbin instances to help keep the servers running without having to do something like ads.

HipPriest,

I think it should be totally anonymous though because otherwise you go down the road of users with special avatars and good knows what

Kbin already has this covered. We can pay monthly to keep servers running via

Patreon and Liberapay.

@Ernest has transferred the existing Buy Me A Coffee money over to the server fund and from this point on we really can buy him a beer via Buy Me A Coffee which is cool!

Reddit's self-destruction is quite impressive, I'm not going to lie

Yeah, I bought gold a few times. I had no problem with "this content was so good it inspired me to give back a little to the free service we're all using."

I wouldn't mind some equivalent for the fediverse honestly. Let me donate to the home server of a user who's comment I thought was especially good.

I know you can donate directly, but I do think there was something about also making another user's day that felt good about the Gold system. The service gets some fuel in the tank and the comment author gets a little boost to their mood. It was nice.

I agree it got way too out of hand when they moved beyond Gold though.

I'm not Ernest but my guess is it gives us greater flexibility?

Like, some of us are already active on one or the other of those platforms, plus between them there are lots of different options for amount. I'd never heard of Liberapay but I like how it's a non-profit.

I think part of it is about retention .... retaining all those users, especially those with high karma levels (or at least users who believe they have high karma) from abandoning the site and ending their accounts.

I'm currently in the process of ending my four accounts I have on reddit. Two of them are over 100,000 in karma and when I read this post, the very first thing that popped into my mind was .... HOW MUCH WILL MY ACCOUNTS BE WORTH?

So it's now making me think ... if I can just keep up my account for another while, maybe I can cash in on all that karma I accumulated.

I am sure that many other redditors are thinking the same. The way this reddit admin posted the info is really weird too ... it sounded like some salesman just enticing people into an idea but not fully being able to say much about it and instead making vague suggestions that something big is coming in the future.

I know a sales job when I see one .... and this is a sales job. Many people will fall for it ... if not just to hang on to see if they can at least cash in our something ... anything when the announcement happens.

Say or think what you want about me ... but I'm ending this relationship and deleting my accounts ... I don't trust big corporations to say or do anything that might give me a chance at anything. Any action they elicit from me or any user will be gamed to only benefit them. If not enough people figure that out ... reddit will make bank in the short term and that is all they are counting on.

neshient,

Could be because it is less circulated. I had seen the coffee option previously but didn't realise the other 2 options had been setup until I came across this comment.

Do lifetime warranties make something BIFL?

I’d like a place where warranties aren’t a factor when discussing BIFL items. I know that some feel otherwise but for me the appeal of BIFL is NOT frugality (though it often overlaps) but rather in owning high quality, long lasting, repairable items. It also has an aspect of sustainability as I hope to only buy one of...

CaptainJanegay,

I don't think a guaranteed replacement is the reason why warranties can contribute to something being BIFL: rather, the lifetime warranty is the manufacturer putting money on the durability of the item, which increases my confidence that they genuinely believe their product is actually durable.

It's still no guarantee and there are lots of other factors to consider, but I think taking a warranty into account is reasonable.

Reminder of Fake Amazon Stores and always google for them (kbin.social)

Just a reminder that Amazon will promote these fake stores more than real independent stores. If you can not find the store, it's 99% fake. Some of these are Trademarked, you can trace it back to China in some cases. Some are bad, some aren't, still the products won't last forever. These products are build by the cheapest...

Cherbal, to AskKbin

why do threads that reference articles on outside sites redirect to kbin and not the outside site? (for example, worldnews often shows the external news site, but clicking the link takes you to a kbin.social post showing all the threads referencing that news site, not the actual site and story itself)

Why is my phone screen's orientation failing to stay locked and how do I fix it?

I have a Samsung Galaxy A71 5G. This usually only happens a few times a week, but my phone seems to be very confused by kbin. I have to hold it vertically or it will switch to landscape orientation every single time. It's annoying. Any ideas?

Thank you all in advance!

goood!
Reddit behaved in such a horrible way, that I feel like API pricing was the least of the bad...

One could argue about their fairness and aim to destroy 3rd party apps, and I had already closed my accounts at that very step.

But the way they treated mods, forced subs to open and behaved like pure evil assholes, I really see how companies or more "official" subreddits with a touch of interest in their users, would feel the desire to leave and close bridges
