I think directly funding a genocidal regime is functionally the same. Like if a friend told me he’d kill people if only he had a gun and then I give him the gun I would be complicit.
Do you think Nazis advocated for totalitarianism and genocide before they came to power? It was gradual and dog whistled, just like those 5 to 10 Republicans are doing today.
I’d say the only thing that has been so thoroughly beaten into people’s minds is what you’re having trouble getting past; the myth that the Nazis went full insane before they had total power.
The truth is that it was just like today: demonizing all minorities and blaming them for all of society’s problems while downplaying the calls for, and acts of, violence.
We’re seeing 1920 to 1932 Nazi party, attempted takeover and all, and those of us who see it for what it is are trying to stop them from becoming post-1932 Nazi party, the one you’re afraid of.
Everything just seems so out of control. The US seems to be tearing itself apart. The world is on fire. We seem to be going backwards when it comes to freedom and human rights. We’ve turned our backs on each other. How do you cope with all this without just giving up?
I really think it’s a question of the sheer amount that is aimed at them through propaganda foreign and domestic. There’s definitely a huge, deliberate push to destabilize the US.

I hate that I always compare Lemmy to Reddit, but Reddit used to have (not sure if they still do) guidelines called “Reddiquette” that included guidelines about upvoting and downvoting. I don’t remember the specifics (and sending too much of my browser traffic to Reddit makes me feel dirty) but one of the guidelines was...
I’m into it. Doesn’t need to make sense out of context in a 3 second clip. I’ll still go experience it. I’ve seen some pretty moving art installations that, taken as a 3 second clip out of context, would make a bunch of people on the internet go “art no make sense”.
If you don’t have winter tires and you lose control in the snow you deserve it. No one should have to deal with your slow, slippery, dumb ass just because you have no self preservation instincts.

Are Americans more prone to conspiracy theories than people in other countries?
