Artistic modelling i use Blender but Parametric modelling I used FreeCAD.

Despite having worked with CAD software, both were a little hard to wrap my head around initially, but I watched like 2 hours of video tutorials each and I figured it out enough for my needs.

Supercooled water is a thing and it’s pretty cool (no pun intended)…

When you keep water still and cool it to below a few degrees below freezing point, it stays as water but when you give a physical shock to it, it freezes over! Like getting a bunch of Harlem shaking soliders in line.

Laugh at or complain about Ubuntu all you wish… but this type of effort really puts Linux as a compelling competitor to Windows for enterprise desktop users. Rather than paying for the Windows software license and then Microsoft or 3rd party support for the OS on top, the fees would be for dedicated operating system and package support against criticial vulnerabilities. Wouldn’t a business rather have something that “just works as it is” over the long term, rather than something that leaves sysadmins holding their breath every Patch Tuesday with Microsoft randomly shoehorning in “features” here and there that have to be shutoff in GP editor?

More people using Ubuntu means more will be comfortable switching away from mac/Windows. Plus the free software components benefit from having a dedicated team securely supporting the packages over the long term.

The longstanding issue that remains is all the industry-specialized software either crappily-coded or riddled with DRMs and whatnot don’t support Linux well yet.

Authy Desktop client will be discontinued from August 2024

Twillio just announced they’re discontinuing the Desktop version of their popular Two Factor Authentication client. Their proposed solution is for users to move to the mobile app, which of course doesn’t fulfill the use case of people who explicitly chose Authy because it had a desktop client....

I use the flatpak Authenticator on my box. I was able to import my andOTP profile relatively easily through the json file.

Yep it’s hilarious that because all the streaming services trying to wall off their own content and region-lock it means that the illegal way is the only reasonable means to access the shows even if you would be willing to spend some money to see it.

Each one comes with predatory practices trying to lock you into long term costs, some have “ad-supported” plans, most have stupid space-wasting apps, and every single one has some onerous EULA they make you agree to.

Can you check the battery voltage with a multimeter if you know how to use one? when disconnected at full charge, when connected, and when the strange flickering is happening?

There are battery voltage monitoring tools on Windows and Linux which could work but I’d trust multimeter numbers more. Check to see if it’s above by more than 15% rated voltage or below rated voltage by any amount at full charge. Check for any strangeness in the charge curve.

If you see any of those signs your battery is likely busted. Also if your battery looks inflated at all replace it immediately.

I looked into it, I knew that raw numbers there are more downvotes on Reddit due to sheer volume, but I was surprised by the ratios too.

Back in the days I used Reddit, somewhere I’d heard that an 8:1 up to down ratio was the average for the longest time (~89% upvoted). So that was kind of my baseline when looking at this question. However, I wanted to do some !lemmyshitpost research out of curiousity so I dug into your query.

So there you have it for posts, way more downvotes on Reddit than Lemmy. I chalk it up to some instances not having downvotes, and people don’t really care to downvote posts besides clickbait, spam, controversial topics, flamebait and stuff.

I know Lemmings like to downvote comments here and there but it’s harder to get a real comparison because I don’t know how to get comment upvote/downvote ratios from Reddit whereas old Reddit still has upvote ratios for posts.

Obviously from server to server things will be different (and 100% upvotes on servers that disables downvotes!) and also if you narrow your scope. But the trend is obviously there.
