Wife and I still use that line and “two minutes” quite regularly.

nerfed the shit out of it and made it basically a requirement to host your own runners even for FOSS projects a year or two back.

Did they just reduce quotas (minutes?, cache storage?) or did they remove features? I’ve always used self-hosted runner

I was convinced by the end of 2020 that the COVID pandemic would put popular opinion strong enough in favor that we might finally make some significant movement in the right direction. But instead I learned that at least 30% of the population would protest for their right to be eaten by zombies in the apocalypse and we should retire the phrase “avoid it like the plague.”

Just put a picture of yourself smiling nicely on your dating app

Yeah, it’s a broad generalization, and the article is 12 years old so trends may have changed since then.

Ah, yeah. The image had me thinking there was some other meaning for FOSS I didn’t know about.

I can’t begin to express how many times I got side-tracked telling myself how attentive I was going to be, and losing like 15 minutes of the lecture to that jnternal pep talk.

I’ll definitely try and remember to do it moving forward, I didn’t know about that feature.

If you go to lemmy.ml/communities then click All you will see communities from all federated instances. Communities from other instances will have @<instance> displayed. If you don’t see one in specific you can search for !<community>@<instance> (you may have to wait a minute and search a second time if it’s the first time anyone has searched for that community).

As far as browsing those other communities, that will be lemmy.ml/c/<community>@<instance>. For example lemmy.ml/c/guitars@lemmy.world

Some communities I have to specify a language for a comment to publish, otherwise it just spins.

Are we using Lemmy correctly?

What I think could make Lemmy superior to Reddit is the ability to create themed-instances that are all linked together which feels like the entire point. I've noticed that a lot of instances are trying to be a catch-all Reddit replacement by imitating specific subs which is understandable given the circumstances but seems like...

If I like LOTR and giraffes I don’t want to create an account on both “instance groups”.

But you don't have to create accounts on multiple instances. You can subscribe, post, and mod communities on other federated servers.

baronvonj,
@baronvonj@lemmy.world avatar

You wouldn’t even need to host your own instance, really. You could create a community and check the option that only mods can post. But you can’t follow people on Lemmy.
