haui_lemmy,

Easy solution in my opinion:

  1. only humans can own residential buildings
  2. you must live in the building you own
haui_lemmy,

Thank you very much for pointing this out! It seems I‘ll have to read up on this stuff for my next home automation project.

haui_lemmy,

I agree. We‘re making an ND wiki too so that would be something to go over in detail soon. Thanks for pointing it out.

haui_lemmy,

No idea if you‘re serious but in case you are: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elitism

My post is about a metaphorical superpower, not some perceived advantage over others.

haui_lemmy,

I dont think thats a large issue for us. Neurologically different is precise enough.

This. I was getting fits when I read the post. Fiber is actually great for selfhosting a service but the security side is very dangerous for uninformed individuals.

If configuring an nginx server is already stretching it, its only a matter of time until your stuff is encrypted and ransomed. Same goes for all data in your network. If the pi is not in its own zone, it has now become a door to your network with barely a lock, let alone a good one.

I would highly recommend reading up on network security and probably prioritize isolating the pi and making at least daily backups.

You router is going to be scanned for open ports every couple minutes. If the wordpress doesnt have a strong password, you‘re in for a bad time.

haui_lemmy,

Thats insanely valuable info, neatly packaged.

haui_lemmy,

Easy:

  • you have to live in the building you own
  • only humans can own residential buildings

Done. Any further questions?

haui_lemmy,

Same here. Got me deeper into tech before I started with linux. I was still a windows addict when he did the linux daily driver challenge.

I‘m really sad he‘s just one of them after all…

Logs are getting spammed with stacktraces "WARN Error encountered while processing the incoming HTTP request: lemmy_server::root_span_builder: Unknown:"

My lemmy-ui container is spiking cpu usage and looking into the logs the following shows up (900.000 lines in total). Any ideas what the issue could be? I’m on 0.19.1, everything seems to be working fine aside from the logs filling up and the usage piking sometimes....

haui_lemmy,

Okay! Thank you! Will do.

haui_lemmy,

So I performed the upgrade and it bricked my install completely. The reason seems to be that something cant handle png icons and after about 4 hrs of working on it, searching and trying different approaches, the site is now back online. Now I need to take an extended break and tomorrow I might check if the error messages are gone. I did find some of the same in the log just a couple mins ago so I dont think this has helped. I might have to turn off backtraces so its less convoluted.

haui_lemmy,

I have started changing the compose file to upgrade but the changes are more extensive than I thought, more commands and other additions so I had to pause until I have more time (tomorrow or the day after I hope). Thanks for asking though. :)

haui_lemmy,

On another note: why do we have open standards like jpeg and png but proprietary shit like docx?

haui_lemmy,

Thanks. Thats actually very interesting. Do you know if there is a good open alternative at this point?

haui_lemmy,

Probably an idea as old as time but wouldn’t it work to stream adobe products from a terminal server?

Let me elaborate: two major fronts I’ve seen are “I type data and write emails” types that can easily work on the terminal and “I make heave graphics and video editing and cant work without 4090 gpu” which we usually just leave to it.

Obviously there are more nuances but most should be doable in terminal unless no internet or very bad internet. I’m somewhat hopeful this would work. Everyone has a very efficient linux pc/laptop and the heavy lifting is done by windows vms with adobe suite running on shared A100s. And while they are not used they could be rented out for extra cost efficiency.

haui_lemmy,

*in that container, not in the system

haui_lemmy,

I havent actually tried that. Might need to check it out. :)

haui_lemmy,

Neat explanation. Thanks. I also modded some communities over there.

It’s not only reddit i‘m seeing this happen on. At work, on discord, people with questionable morals start to get into power and take over from those who built stuff up.

It’s like we have an epidemic of the dark triad. Being manipulative, impulsive and brutal seems to get more and more normalized through our economic system.

haui_lemmy,

Damn… thanks for mentioning this. I thought musk now bought a couple shills since it seems to work for zuck.

haui_lemmy,

You‘re not wrong. I left firefox since you can’t say anything critical about firefox without being downvoted to hell even if it is just trying to improve it.

Wonderful how the people spoiling irl groups also spoil online groups.

haui_lemmy,

I have posted this exact article there some months ago I believe. Or at least one just like it.

I totally get your point. Instead of just saying „this is false for x reason“ they go after the people who post this.

I really hate that.

haui_lemmy,

Exactly. Especially getting rid of this ridiculous buy but now own idea.

haui_lemmy,

Likely not in the same country as the person you asked but where I live, being homeless means you don’t want to go to the government and ask for housing/money. You get both. Those people who run around crowded areas do that as occupation, not because they’re starving.
