My understanding is that it’s not that simple. By your logic, humans also have several brains. for example, your spine is doing some processing on the signals from your limbs. it’s how that reflex works when the doctor hits your knee with a hammer. the signal travels to your spine, the spine recognizes some pattern, and returns a signal to jerk your leg. the signal doesn’t need to reach your head to trigger the reflex. basically, your whole nervous system is the brain, it’s just that the vast majority of your nervous system is inside your head.

it’s the same for octopi, but much more extreme. I think they have like 50% of their nervous system in their ‘brain’, and the rest is distributed across their tentacles.

feel free to correct me, I wrote this entirely based on my memory so I might be off.

My mom still uses a Miele vacuum that she got gifted by my grandma when my mom moved out. That was almost half a century ago. It’s definitely worth it to check second hand marketplaces for old models

Carceral housing law arose from a transformation in federal law enforcement, in which the U.S. government encouraged the merging of policing and welfare, and policing became driven primarily by profit

“Wait, it’s all capitalism?” “Always has been.”

oh yeah now that you mention it, I saw someone talking about how annoying it is to get VST plugins running for ableton. fair point.

To avoid issues like misconfiguring your display server.

but what does the command line matter for dates? sure every once in a while you’ll have to pass a date as an argument on the command line but I think usually that kind of data is handled by APIs without human intervention, so once these are set up properly, I don’t see the problem

Hm, I guess I just don’t agree that CLI usablity comes before readability.

KDE has your back. You .mostly use regular windows but with meta+T you can configure tiles that can be used to snap windows to them using shift when dragging a window

Eh. Something makes DevOps sites load slowly when opening from outlook. Like, opening a handful of links takes a minute or so

I’m not sure what keyring exactly, but I would be suprised if it was the gnome keyring because I am using KDE

in case you’re wondering about discord specifically, turning off the KDE wallet subsystem in the system settings worked for me, since I didn’t use it anyways.

I’ll disable it and see what happens next reboot. Earlier I tried some flag when launching discord that was supposed to make the prompt go away but that didn’t work. Thanks for that tip.

edit: awesome! this worked. now I just need to figure out flatpak and the screen recorder :D

I really liked playing Talos Principle 2 the past days. makes you think not just about logic but also some aspects of philosophy. which, at least to me, is pretty relaxing.

Production. Live environment. Actually using it to provide some service for paying customers.

Well, in your bubble maybe. I can assure you the majority of people your age barely grasp the concept of the internet, let alone online gaming. Same goes for people in their 20s. It’s like cars for many people. Sure, they know very well how to use them, but have no idea about what other people do with their cars, like racing or off-roading. They might have some rough idea of what it probably is, but no clue about all the intricacies.

Nowadays most people use the internet, but that doesn’t mean they understand the pain when someone leaves your online match. Not everybody is playing online games, let alone online games where a leaving teammate actually matters.

do you call your underwear “pants”?

@meekah@lemmy.world avatar

Sure, if you like licking boots.

Consumables like that are common to be accidentally taken home if you don’t switch to work clothes at work. Any company complaining about it is insane.

If I want a pair that lasts longer than a year I can expect to pay 80€+ here

Seems like many are doing it for the sake of modding though
