Is the cash tax free? If so, jump on that shit.

If it isn’t, maybe take the money, but probably just walk away

No bullshit my homie, a good gym, one that’s more focused on strength training in specific, is the best place to start. I can’t promise there won’t ever be assholes, but even the fairly generic gyms that do more aerobics and cross fit type of stuff are good about it. And the typical weight room, even when it’s body builders rather than folks that are strength focused are often going to be more than welcoming.

You have no idea how many really big guys didn’t start out that way. A lot of them started lifting because they didn’t have a good foundation in physical fitness as a youngster (myself included). So I can promise you that assholes making fun of you are extremely rare.

So, if you ever manage to get past the self consciousness enough to try it, I think it would be the perfect start. Even if all you do at first is go in, do some curls on a machine and walk back out, I promise you that you’ll start to see improvement from it in a few weeks at most. And once you see that first little bit of change, it’ll help your brain realize that the rest can change too. It’s your body, and you can own it the way you want it. It’s hard fucking work, every single time, and it never really stops. But it’s there when you’re ready to do that work.

I can’t think of many things that shut up the inner critic more than physical fitness efforts. For me, it was lifting and then marital arts that made things work. Dealing with that kind of self esteem and doubt and fear is a giant barrier for sure (again, I’ve been there), but if you can get that first step taken, it’s worth it.

Oh man! Water exercise is so sweet when you’ve got a bad back and/or joints. Being able to get a decent workout without being laid up for two days is a beautiful thing for me :)

But, I feel you. I’ve got that same inner critic sniping away. As I’ve gotten older, it’s less about physical things and a lot more about mistakes made, things that were hurtful that I didn’t have the ability to see as hurtful when I said or did them.

But along that, I did figure out that the old truism about having to give yourself something first, before you can really give it to or get it from others holds up. If I’m not kind to myself, if I can’t forgive myself, and love myself (at least a little), it’s nigh impossible to genuinely give those things to someone else.

I don’t know if that actually applies to everyone or not; maybe other people can give truly of themselves without accepting good things from themselves first, but it seems to be the case.

Yeah, flavor wise, there’s not any significant difference. Texture wise, that’s where scratch cooked excels. But if you’re going to rice it or cook it down all the way anyway? Dehydrated is going to be as tasty once finished.

Very true indeed. But sugar pumpkins are horrible for jack o lanterns lol. Well, if you do them the way we do. It’s kind of a big thing for us. We do that fancy shit and have a line of them on the porch. Actually, this year we didn’t go all out and only had five, with only one being fancy.

But if I’m making pumpkin pie filling from scratch, you’re dead on. I’m not messing with scraping one out, I’m just cutting it up, baking it and going from there.

The DCEU ends not with a bang, but a wimper. (lemmy.ml)

10 years after Zod’s snapped neck, Martha, “some kinda Suicide Squad”, CGI moustache, rennouncing your wish, the hiearchy of power changing, and Speed Force PS1 graphics, the DC Extended Universe finally comes to a close. And it ends the same way it started - with a Rotten score....

Amen. Though, tbh, I did shed a few tears during love and thunder, so it wasn’t a total failboat.

I like Gunn’s style, but any time you just hand the reins to a single director, the risk of them cackling like a mad scientist and creating an abomination is high.

Absolutely! It wasn’t at all unusual, even for other slurs. But gay slurs were outright common. Ffs, even in 91, my high school had a gym class playing “smear the queer” and that was the gym teacher calling it that. It wasn’t a secret, it was right out in the open. And that really was about the mildest kind of bullshit gay people had to deal with.

My best friend in high school was/is gay (still my best friend, still gay lol). He was mean as a snake, so nobody was dumb enough to directly attack him, but it was a real fear that it could happen, or that it could end up a planned attack by enough people when he was alone that his willingness to fuck people up wasn’t a deterrent.

By about 93, I had been going to the closer gay bars with him, and ended up bouncing at a few when I moved to the city for a while. It could get ugly fast at those places. Here in the south, the acceptance of gay folks still isn’t where it should be, but back then, we would have assholes showing up specifically to beat gay people. I’ve got a few scars from trying to keep our patrons safe and alive. All of us at the big drag club ended up with scars.

The sheer ease with which some of those sociopaths would drive into the city specifically to try and hurt someone they didn’t even know was disgusting. The police response was utter bullshit. A couple of times, people damn near died while we tried to keep things under control because the cops didn’t care. At least the ambulance people were fast, those folks were incredible, and always got there before the cops, despite being located farther away.

It’s one of the reasons I can’t bring myself to hate Axl. I’m amazed I didn’t end up thinking that way too, if I’m being honest. My family were mostly cool with gaydom (that’s an actual thing my aunt said once), but they still looked at it with pity and condescension. “Those poor people”. I have to laugh at it a little or it would make me sad.

Eh, it’s part politics, but also part the way he treats people, including his children. Not a good person outside of his public persona, if all reports are true.

We’re not talking some kind of rapist here, just being an asshole to people that he had no need to be an asshole to, mostly employees.

The political shit is absolutely true, btw, he’s made the statements supporting the ccp and against Hong Kong independence publicly, but I don’t really count that against someone that lives in and/or is from the areas, just not my business (regardless of disagreeing).

The other stuff is fairly well known, but it’s mostly “alleged” because there’s no proof for every bit of it. But you can find the parts about him and his son easy enough, and make your own judgement there.

Waaay less. I’ve never heard of any issues with it being a common thing at all. Tbh, I’ve never known anyone to get tagged for it. I never have, even before I started using a vpn for everything.

southsamurai,
@southsamurai@sh.itjust.works avatar

Alas, I fear that even when not drunk, the second status still applies.

southsamurai,

Nah, they dropped the whole fangirl thing as a common occurrence a while back in comics. The show doesn’t lean into it very much.

I can’t say the show was a 10/10, but they kept the spirit of the character that well. The ending was “good enough” imo

southsamurai,
@southsamurai@sh.itjust.works avatar

Psst, be vewy vewy kwiet, I’m twowwing vegans.

southsamurai,
@southsamurai@sh.itjust.works avatar

Lmao! Dude, that’s the single best response in the entire thread! Counter-trolling ftmfw! I can’t even come back at that one, I’m laughing too hard. No bullshit, thank you for that :)

southsamurai,
@southsamurai@sh.itjust.works avatar

My cousin is like that. I enjoy trolling online vegans because they tend to be the zealots, but I don’t actually have anything against the “ism” itself. Different strokes, and all that.

My cousin gets a big old pot of vegan chili when he’s in town because he likes it, and I like making it for him. We poke fun at each other over bowls of the stuff.

southsamurai,
@southsamurai@sh.itjust.works avatar

Wait, isn’t seven minutes with your cousin in the dark the definition of heaven?

Also. What duck?

My homie, my twerks are free for all visitors, but you gotta leave the camera at the door

southsamurai,

Lmmfao!

Dude. You nailed the bait! Like, I’ve seen outrage trolling before, but you fucking aced this shit :)

A “similar community” bot to help discovery.

When someone links to a community, it offers other communities with the same name on other instances.

But it would be less useful until we get multiC/s or something like that
