victorz,

At least he used “affirm” rather than “confirm”.

victorz,

This is why I turn on the audio normalization on my TV. It makes the explosions sound super weird but it’s impossible to watch movies with kids sleeping otherwise. The mixing is so bad.

victorz,

Watching TV is also shit. When an ad break comes, I have to mute the sound or turn down the volume, regardless of normalization. That should be illegal in my opinion but it’s the status quo.

I’m sorry?

It doesn’t break often, it doesn’t have problems updating it you don’t update regularly.

It might be a bad choice for a first-time Linux user due to the heavy setup process/time post-install, but as a gaming platform it works absolutely fine. Steam Deck runs on Arch ffs, come on now. 😄

Curious: when was the last time you used Arch? Seems like you haven’t used it of late, considering those misconceptions you spewed. Or maybe you are running experimental/unsupported stuff?

I’ve used it for over a decade now and had less problems with it than with Ubuntu that I ran for much less time before Arch.

I don’t know what kind of issues Manjaro or Endeavor have had, probably plenty, but I’m running vanilla Arch for over a decade as I said, no issues. I update once a week maybe. I take a look at the packages that will be updated, and I do as the wiki said – check the website for big news/manual intervention. Sometimes there’s manual intervention, but they almost never concern me because it’s due to something I don’t have installed. This is standard routine for Arch, and if you don’t pay attention then you are not using Arch properly. (I don’t pay attention most of the time either, honestly, but it still doesn’t break.)

I also use Nvidia and Steam (Flatpak) and it works great and I’m very satisfied. Works better than my Windows installation actually; better performance.

Arch being an unstable mess is a misconception these days since a long time, I think. It’s been great.

I’ve updated old laptops with Arch that have been sitting for years without updates. I just run -Syu and it basically replaces every single package 😅, then I reboot into a fresh, working system. 👍 All good. Happened plenty of times.

Hanlon’s Razor comes into play here. If you don’t believe me

No no, I already believe that. I think that’s one of the most soothing and comforting adages ever. I suppose it’s just not in many Americans’ culture to think in terms of “what good can I be to society during my lifetime/today/in this situation,” rather than “how can I help myself/make the smallest burden for myself, right now”. I dunno.

I remember when I came to America for a few months, twice. I would gain a lot of weight both times. I thought it was quite frustrating. But cheap food really is bad for you.

That’s a cute story about your brothers. ☺️

victorz,

I wouldn’t associate air quality with the people being responsible with their trash or returning their shopping carts lol. Maybe I should? 😆

victorz,

Right, let’s all become murderers so we can create homicide detective jobs… Makes perfect sense. 🙃🙄 Very silly argument indeed.

Sometimes I just feel like people like to argue for the sake of arguing. Or that they don’t fully understand what they are saying.

victorz,

Probably more in the continental Europe, right? Or further east? I feel like Scandinavian people are quite clean and take responsibility for trash. We have a good community system as well I think. Garbage is collected and disposed.

I dunno. Sometimes it bothers me how people don’t sort their trash correctly in the correct bins, like how hard is that? But at least they bring it there, right? 🤷‍♂️

victorz,

I live in Sweden; rarely do I ever see a shopping cart just sitting in the parking lot. Can’t remember a time in the last decade.

victorz,

Sorry, I’ve become confused about what you mean by “here” or “there”, and where you are based.

You mean coins are required in America? Because not in Sweden. They used to be, like 20-15 years ago. But they removed that. Not sure if there was a law that came into effect or something but… not anymore with the coins. Carts are free to take into the store without coins. Still, everyone returns them.

victorz,

You think so? Are Americans really more lazy/inconsiderate people? Some other reason why this might be more common there?

victorz,

Well that’s disheartening. Why do you think that is?

victorz,

Thanks, I had missed that! Still the price for Sync is way higher than what I paid for Boost. 🫤

victorz,

You could buy a huge number of high quality games for A$35?

victorz,

It has its issues, but it’s tolerable.

Don’t oversell it, now…

victorz,

Boost. One-time cheap payment to get rid of ads. No subscription like Sync (which is otherwise also a great app; it was not subscription based when it was available for Reddit).

victorz,

Shame Sync has a subscription-based model now to get rid of ads.

victorz,

It really is a gorgeous app. 🤌

victorz,

Oh shiz, you’re right. Still a bit of a heavy price compared to Boost.

victorz,

I’m gonna just jump into the deep end and blurt out that I can’t freaking stand the cadence of his voice. It’s so choppy. And the inflections are just so off. I know he’s not a native speaker and all that but… God. It’s almost unbearable to me. I can’t compensate for it.

victorz,

Love the “A KNOW”

victorz,

snap windows to the edge of their screens

While it’s not a feature out of the box, there is software to add this functionality to macOS. But… same on Linux. You need to install that software if you want the feature. (Gnome/i3/other choice with this functionality.) So 🤷‍♂️

victorz,

Can confirm. Install once and it lives forever until the hardware dies or is replaced.

victorz,

I wouldn’t dare do that. If my own guide becomes outdated I’d have wasted time and effort. But to each their own. 👍
