See and I see it more as in modern times where it’s a simple figurehead.

I would disagree and say it’s more akin to a philosopher king hence less anarchy and more monarchy. It’s all good until the king dies and let’s see who succeeds them.

It will be most telling when Linus dies.

Ending support for Windows 10 could send 240 million computers to the landfill. Why not install Linux on them? (gadgettendency.com)

With support ending for Windows 10, the most popular desktop operating system in the world currently, possibly 240 million pcs may be sent to the landfill. This is mostly due to Windows 11’s exorbitant requirements. This will most likely result in many pcs being immediately outdated, and prone to viruses. GNU/Linux may be...

Herein lies the rub where the discourse online always fails. It’s easy to blame the rich, corporations, politicians, etc. but the end of the day they’re simply doing what the masses want. We are the problem.

Now that said, I understand the appeal of blaming a smaller segment of the population because it’s easier to shift blame and it’s easier to force change that way, but rest assured Apple stops making a new phone every year their brand dies unless everyone stops doing it. They’re doing it because we are conditioned to want it.

We are the underlying problem. All of us.

Edit - having my point proven is amazing.

Considering the amount of nerds on this site how is this so hard to find?! Their last video is literally a Star Trek quiz show lol. I love these guys and like many Rich is my spirit animal.

Honest question. Does anyone here have enough humility to understand there’s a similar checklist of things an automobile solves?

Now it doesn’t mean it’s the right solution but particularly in North America due to lack of XYZ automobiles are king.

It’s very easy to go “hurr durr automobiles bad” but do you understand the multitude of reasons why we use them? All the things that need to be improved or fixed before we entertain the alternatives?

Saying this as a car owner who takes public transit far more than other car owners.

whoisearth,
@whoisearth@lemmy.ca avatar

And I’ll tell you right back that people don’t care about your list here. You want to get people onboard start pivoting the conversation. “yaytransit” is far more positive and forward thinking than “fuckcars”.

In fact, the responses I’ve gotten already are a good indication of how deluded this community is. You’re not here to promote change, you’re here to scream into the wind.

So I guess consider that more a failing on my part.

Is there a forum for people who are lonely and sad but specifically not incel sickos?

like you know you’re a good person at heart but life circumstances and trauma and bullying and etc prevented you from learning the proper social skills to find companionship. not necessarily a forum to actually find friends (i find going into things with that intention feels fake and weird), but rather a forum to commiserate...

Bang on. I’m feeling down right now (relationship that ended I’ve never recovered from years later) and no amount of chatting with people online is going to fill that gaping hole or help me patch it.

Professional help should always be approached first and foremost.

Of course, that’s not accessible for many people which is a shame and for that I have no answer, just that seeking to fill that hole with like-feeling people online is a recipe in disaster. Negativity breeds negativity.

Ok?

Good points and I don’t feel like counterpointing a lot of it because I’m tired.

I will say though on the returns. I used the 10 years in my house as an example but recall that was not a steady increase. Normally housing should be well below an index. What happened say the last 4 years was that the price of my house went from about 700k to 1.3mil. the 10 year example masks what I was saying. Houses had to 100% be returning more than an index the last 5 years otherwise how do you explain the rampant greed? Corporations AND individuals have been drunk on overleveraging on the residential market. They’re not doing that for index rate returns otherwise they’d be in an RRSP.

I will go to my grave that society writ large is broken. It’s not just the rich. Everyone has become a selfish turd out to get a buck on the backs of everyone else. The difference is that some of us are self-aware enough to see it in ourselves.

It’s depressing if you don’t step back and laugh at it all.

People (talking mom & pop) should not be able to purchase a home simply for the purpose of renting it out.

I agree with that.

The problem is the reason people do that is because of a few things.

  1. The ROI is absolutely retarded. My last house (I live in don’t rent) I made 800k in 10 years. That’s insane. Find me an index that turns 500k into 1.3mil in 10 years
  2. Passive income if you don’t do shit that landlords should be doing like regular maintenance.

What are you talking about Willis? I said no such thing.

I live a simple life and surround myself with those who live a simple life.

As for hypocrisy, we are all hypocrites. If you don’t think you are you’re a liar which is worse IMHO.

whoisearth,

Yes and I charge well under market value (like $500 under what I could get) and my tenant does not have to live on the street. Would you rather I kick her out or let her live in my house for free?

Yeah. I’ve been pleasantly surprised. He stays in his lane alone with the other souls streamers. That community seems to be pretty good at being good people.

LilAggy’s stream looks interesting, I gave him a follow. Will see if we click.

He fully acknowledges you should never trust chat and that chat are morons. I like him.

That said, yeah get bad juju from him

To expand on this. If you are talking about anything online it is not private. That doesn’t matter if it’s in a WhatsApp chat, a telegram chat, a Lemmy post, a Facebook feed, etc. as soon as it hits a computer if someone wants to see it they will. There’s just hurdles to get it.

If you want anonymity stop using computers.

whoisearth,
@whoisearth@lemmy.ca avatar

You’re not anonymous online either FYI.

As someone with an electric chainsaw gas is still magnitudes most powerful. This sword would be cool and would cut but it wouldn’t be like butter. You’d have to go relatively slow to avoid excessive friction binding the blade.

whoisearth,
@whoisearth@lemmy.ca avatar

If you go slow yes. But speaking from experience my dewalt 16" struggles going through a 6*6 unless you go slowly.

I have an electric chainsaw. Fuck gas. For what I need one for battery is perfectly fine
