I want to take a crash course in Fediverse. I was browsing stuff on Mastadon and voila! I found these communities on Mastadon but I wasn’t able to post anything, but I was however able to reply to stuff. I don’t know how this works. I won’t be reading it now, but I want to know more about Fediverse, so a book or...
Sometimes when I look around in communities hosted on instances with downvotes disabled, there’s still the occasional comment with a negative score. Does it only count downvotes from people on your instance, or is there some other magic going on?
How can I filter my Lemmy feed by language? I’m getting a lot of German and Swedish content that I can’t read, especially cartoons / memes

I was wondering if the search engines are indexing the fediverse. Because recently Google search became so bad so I was always putting Reddit at the end to get some not so generic results and I haven’t even noticed to get any replies pointing to the fediverse ever. So I was wondering if search engines were actually indexing...
I’m in the market to find a new distro that is similar enough to Fedora that switching won’t be as laborious as I’ve had it before. I keep hearing POP!_os is a good choice but I’m going to as the community what they think is good.

Reddit handled this very well, and I am concerned that if there isn’t an easy solution on Lemmy, it won’t work for many people as an alternative to Reddit....
I am looking for a place that is as close to “as long as it’s not illegal, it’s allowed” as possible. Is there a good way to narrow down my search without going to every single server and reading their sidebar?

I just found out about The Odin Project, a self-paced online course to learn full stack web development. There are two paths: one is Ruby on Rails and the other is full JavaScript and nodejs. I am leaning more towards Ruby but I wanted to get some more opinions from folks in the field.

I have long been tired of the fact that I can not normally use 90% of sites without registration. I’m not going to create an account in order to read a post that interests me right now. But today was the last straw. Fucking Tumblr makes me create an account just to find and read 1 POST. (Sorry for mistakes, I am non English...
