StuffToWrite, in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

I have a little limitation on my leg because of a work accident, so every time I exercise it makes me feel “normal”, like a boost of confidence despite the limitation, I even feel happier when I’m tired, like I needed to expel that extra energy out of me.

s_s, in Hey Lemmy, what are your favorite ear worms?

Watermelon Man by Herbie Hancock

You’ve undoubtedly heard it before in samples, at least.

Melatonin,

I’m on a Watermelon Man kick right now. You should listen to it by Poncho Sanchez. Herbie Hancock is a genius, a modern day miracle, and outside of jazz almost no one knows.

NotMichaelCera, in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?

I rock climb and do conditioning for it. Sometimes I trail run and there is a weird mid action addrenaline i get from it. Same when I am on a high wall. I know I am not gonna fall, but it’s up to me to commit and finish this challenge.

I don’t have fun at all - when I work out just to “work out,” anyway. Then I have to think about it sort of like physical medicine. I do it cause it’s good for me.

But if I can find a way to get the heart pumping that’s primarily about doing an activity, with fitness just being secondary, I have a lot more fun. I recently got into boxing for fitness because kneee trouble was making high-impact cardio painful. Love it. Training becomes something to look forward to because boxing is fun rather than metaphorical castor oil that I swallow down because I need to.

Isn’t one of the main points of circlejerk lampooning reddit culture?

Lemmy is still pretty new and finding its identity. Give it time.

jcb2016,
@jcb2016@lemmy.world avatar

Naw the sub is funny sometimes. I don’t always visit it but when I do there is something they are talking about

oshitwaddup,
@oshitwaddup@lemmy.antemeridiem.xyz avatar

Arguably lemmy is currently in the non-self aware stage of circlejerks with all the screenshot memes

mysoulishome,

The memes here are not good. But the company is 🙂

rufus,

hehe. however, it sounds pretty much like reddit over here. i think people brought their culture along…

johnthedoe, in Which one are you?

You guys have too many fast food options

EtnaAtsume,

And too strong opinions on them. How anyone part age twenty or so can have any thought on them besides ‘yuck’ baffles me.

Aurenkin,

People like different things

TheDubz87,

I’ll agree with that. And they’re all so overpriced, I can’t afford to eat any of them lol

Akasazh,
@Akasazh@feddit.nl avatar

Overpriced? Really? I thought the whole point was it being fast and cheap. So that only leaves convenience as an argument to go there…

TheDubz87,

Yeah a combo meal runs like $13+…It’s ridiculous. My field guys at work eat out every day. I can’t afford it. Cheaper to hit the grocery store and make sandwiches all week.

darkstar, in Does anyone else struggle with silence, particularly when trying to sleep?

Yes, I can’t sleep without white noise

angstylittlecatboy, in Why hasn’t r/circlejerk made there presence known on lemmy?

It’s probably inevitable, but…circlejerk subs are a scourge.

ninjakttty, in Which one are you?

Jbox curly fries are on point. Def S-tier.

Then BK, McDonalds.

I’ll lump all the rest in the middle scribe I don’t think I’ve had them.

And F- for In-n-out good lord do they make terrible fries, (B- if you make them animal style)

A55A, in Why is youtube recommending conservative "talking points" to me?
@A55A@lemmy.ml avatar

Just use Odysee, the YouTube algorithm is fully cooked from millions of hours of pure crap being posted every day.

No and I never liked it. I tried going to the gym for a while to lose weight but I felt horrible afterwards and during the excersice and the actual Impact on my obesity was quite minimal (probably my fault as I‘m sure I didn’t do everything right). So i stoped going eventually. I know started walking more, I don’t take the bus from the train station home anymore and rather walk the 3.5km with some nice podcast oj my ears. I like doing it, even atvthe current temperatures as I feel like a get 45 minutes just for me where I don’t have to listen to anyone or anything other than my podcasts I enjoy. I work ij Retail so there’s a constant barrage of people and at the end of the day you just don’t want to see people for a while. So while it does help my weight loss it also just feels kinda therapeutic in a way. I just crossed 120kg (down from 136) this morning and plan to try to extend my walks to my days of as well :-)

Boinketh, in Is there an easy way to bring all my old technical posts from Reddit to Lemmy?

You can still use the authless Reddit API to scrape your old posts. Just add “.json” to the end of your URL, like so: www.reddit.com/user/jaschen/submitted.json

To get the next page, add “?after=AFTER” to the end after “.json”, where AFTER is the value you got from the preceding request. Unfortunately, I am not familiar with Lemmy’s API, so you’ll need to solve that yourself.

Kichae, in Is there an easy way to bring all my old technical posts from Reddit to Lemmy?

Once you get them together, consider doing the POSSE thing and posting them to a blog first. That way you can retain full control of them and still spread them around wherever they may be useful. There's even an ActivityPub module for WordPress!

Pipsqueaker, in People who work in food service or customer service: What’s the dumbest thing a customer ever insisted was “the law” or “illegal”?
@Pipsqueaker@lemmy.world avatar

At one point I worked for an electronics repair shop fixing mostly phones, laptops, and game consoles. We actually had a great manager and we all just enjoyed fixing things, so we really weren’t out to rip people off like they usually came in thinking. Our store policy was even if we didn’t fix it, we didn’t charge you, and we stood by it.

One day a lady drops off her laptop with a cracked screen. Part of the screen was still working, but the majority was non functional and would surely worsen over time. We diagnose the laptop and give the customer a quote and she agrees to the repair. I let her know that once we start the repair, the previous screen will be destroyed during the removal process since it has no more integrity from being broken, she’s fine with that. We get the part in a few days later and I start the repair. At this point the woman’s husband calls - literally while I have the cracked screen half out of the laptop - and says stop the repair and return it how it was. We were like, we’re happy to give the laptop back, but unfortunately we’ve already started the repair and while removing the old screen it broke more so it would end up being returned in a worse condition.

This fucking guy screamed at me over the phone about how what we were doing was illegal, how we never got proper authorization blah blah. We offered to even do the repair at cost, but no that wasn’t good enough. When the husband and wife finally came into the store to pick up the laptop, he left screeching about how he was going to sue us. Unsurprisingly we never heard from him again.

closedmouthsdonteat,

One thing I learned from working in customer service is the amount of people that have a lawyer on retainer. Better be careful!

Voroxpete,

We developed a very effective strategy for this at a furniture store I used to work at; the moment the customer makes any suggestion of legal action, all our employees were trained to immediately say “I understand. Have a good day” and end the conversation on the spot. The unhappy customer immediately tries to press the issue, because what they want is for us to magically teleport a couch here from China or whatever, and at that point the employee says “I’m sorry but as you’ve notified us that this issue is now the subject of a pending legal action any further communication will have to go though our legal team.”

Repeating this a couple more times would inevitably lead to the customer admitting that they were bluffing.

nailbar,

I’d hate to work directly with customers, but pulling the rug from under idiots sound really satisfying.

Dubious_Fart,

This is my favorite thing to do.

Second lawyer is mentioned, shut down all communication and offer only “Due to your pending litigation, Please direct all correspondence to our lawyers as we are not authorized to discuss legal matters.”

DarkDarkHouse,
@DarkDarkHouse@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Is the number close to zero?

axolittl,

Damn I’m sorry you had to put up with that. And I feel bad for the wife for being married to him.

gammasfor,

how we never got proper authorization

Why do I feel like this is a domestic abuse situation. Husband broke her laptop in order to reduce her attempts to communicate with others? She goes to get it repaired, he finds out.

I think it’s the belief that the wife can’t authorise the repair…

hbocao,

My thinking was that there was something in that computer that he was trying to hide.
